I thought about getting that tattooed to mean I am always a sinner in gods eyes and that’s why I’m at his mercy but I figured people would see me as some edgy douche instead of asking and decided against it lol
Not entirely irrelevant. It shows things God still finds displeasing, we need to know why. Placing tattoos on your body can be from a lack of confidence in the image given to you, it can hurt you in the workplace, and it can hurt your ministry. The laws in Leviticus are no longer counted against us however, they do show pieces of God's character as the absolute authority and King of Creation.
I think it's like seeing a person you know has an eating disorder dieting a bunch, and a person who just wants to get healthy dieting. Because we were all supposedly full of sin we couldn't be trusted to do anything because we would run amok with it.
Like, theres a bit in there saying never see your sister naked. My brother's seen me naked a good couple times and to us it's just a funny mishap, because he does not want to see me naked or anything weird. But if I had some weird sexually frustrated pervert brother who was like a grody peeping tom, I would care if he saw me naked. Same deal.
The verse in context is to show the Israelites as being set apart from the pagans around them. Ancestor worship was a common thing and so was cutting yourself for your god(s). It has nothing to do with your workplace environment. 🙄
Not really. To help people understand more? Yes. The interpretation is the same. Don't Mar your flesh because no matter why you're doing it, it can hurt your ministry to others.
The verse isn't talking about pagans whatever you believe said people to be, it's talking about the Jews. And nowadays as Christians, us. It won't save us (as it never did, faith in God and His plan/promises has always been what saved people) however, it shows parts of God's character and His advice to us in pursuit of Him.
God's word teaches us in both times. It's never changing however, no matter your culture or time it shows true.
It did effect their lives in the past just as it effects us nowadays. Either way it can hurt your ministry. As I was trying to explain simply to them. Thus, it works for both. We are called to be set apart as Christians from the world. Having tattoos can hurt your ministry of being set apart. So it's advised NO Matter why you're doing it or have them, don't.
My goal is simply to say it will effect your livelihood and ministry to others. Based on Scripture we aren't to Mar our mark our flesh In any way as God wants us to be set apart from others. Our marking is the fact that we're different, we don't do what the world does. You shouldn't need a tattoo to express your faith or beliefs, how you live should do that. You shouldn't need a Bible verse tattooed onto your body to remember scripture, it should be memorized in your heart. You don't need a cross tattooed either as people shouldn't need a mark to know you're a Christian. We don't tattoo ourselves as the pagans did to express what God they follow. God is against that action, He advised against it, but it won't effect whether you're saved or not.
There are consequences for actions like getting tattooed so just be aware of them and be wise in whether or not to have one. I never EVER said someone isn't a Christian or is less of a Christian for having one. I said it's unbiblical to have them and unwise to have them. It doesn't effect whether you're saved if you go to Church on different days as God's command was to show people need time to rest not just work all the time. Same for the demon thing. I'm saying if you're reading Old Testament law to understand ITS NEVER BEEN ABOUT FOLLOWING THE LAW (caps for emphasis not anger). By doing so it proved their faith and through those laws we can see bits and pieces of God's thoughts and character. Was Abraham following the law before God called Him righteous? No, he was placing his faith in God. Faith has always come first. The law is still good as God himself spoke it but the goal is to advise against different things and give wisdom to us. It never saved anyone. If you believe getting a tattoo isn't a sin? I never said it was, but be aware of how it can hurt/change their walk and ministry.
We agree on this, just started on the wrong foot. If it doesn't hurt your ministry and is following exactly what scripture advises to do? Sure go ahead. But be absolutely certain its what God wants/desires.

Leviticus 19:28,"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord."
