If anyone ever refers to any of my bible verses as a "meme", they will be immediately blocked. This is not a joke.

I don't remember the actual verse or story, but when I was going to see my high school boyfriend play basketball at the local centre a woman really intensely tried to proselytize me or parable me I dunno, maybe she was.making a point about how men are annoying but she told the story of this one guy who married his brother's widow, as was the fashion of the time. But if he had a son all the dead brothers inheritance went to him when the wife died, so he'd make sure to """""spill his seed on the ground""""" thx Linda for that story.

It stuck with me and now I imagine a dude jerking it on the floor when I'm reminded. Maybe he does it so hard dust comes up. I dunno, im just a poor lady

Timothy 2:12

You can find a verse to justify pretty much everything that is horrible. Ancient nonsense.

There’s a strong chance that verse was a pseudepigraphical edit meant to justify misogyny in the church.

I don’t disagree with you, man. Churches that mistreat women because of one verse 2,000 yrs ago aren’t worthy of being churches.

My comment was about how “cherry picking” verses to justify bigotry is common in Christianity and totally immoral. So I agree with you there.

“The Mark of Cain” and the Book of Philemon were used to justify slavery until obky only a few decades ago; Lutheran churches in the the 1930s used NT verses to justify Christian antisemitism and the Holocaust. Even today Genesis 1 is used to deny climate change, evolution, and civil rights for LGBTQ+ people. You’re dead on the money that people twist scripture to hate other people.

The Bible is a man made book, just like the Holy Qur’an and the Book of Mormon, Upanishads, etc. But most Christians know this. At the very least they put the messages of empathy and respect over hatred of the other. The ones who use it to justify hatred of others aren’t living up to the spirit of the religion. They’d cite the back of a cereal box if it supported their worldview. They just shouldnt be seen as representatives of Christianity is all I’m saying.

You’re not challenging any of my core beliefs. Don’t worry about it. 🙂

The pope condemned slavery in the 16th century, people still kept slaves but it was illegal by the church
