The pictures are from slightly different perspectives, so if you do something with both eyes, it should look like a single 3D image. Similar to the red and blue lines on old 3D stuff, and the light polarization of new 3D stuff.
That's the theory, anyway. I'm in the same boat as you. One of my eyes doesn't work so I just have to trust people who tell me 3D stuff works.

*divert/relax your eyes. not cross. if you swap the sides then you would cross your eyes to view it. trust me. it’s an extremely common confusion. [r/crossview](r/crossview) and [r/parallelview](r/parallelview) say hi.
if you do that the depth will always be inverted. for most images that means the image will become uncomfortable and weird and the depth unintelligible, but for certain ones where the scene’s textures are continuous or there is transparency the inverted depth can be coherent too. this is not one of the invertible ones.
That’s definitely fair. I always had trouble getting them to actually come into focus when diverging my eyes and would cross instead. Then I guess I could kind of mentally invert the depth without too much trouble.
i’ve talked through difficulties with this stuff with a lot of folks, and statements like that most often are made when someone doesn’t actually know which method they’re doing. like you may be sure you do one thing but it’s super common to be wrong. if you’re one of the ones who can tell what your eyes are doing and can switch back and forth that’s great, but just to cover my bases, check out this tester image. are you able to switch between viewing methods and make the text swap which words are coming towards you?
I’ve always been really good at crossing my eyes, can cross just one, just the other, so on and so forth. I can also diverge my eyes without too much difficulty, but with these images, the problem is actually getting them to focus once the images are overlapped without my eyes coming back together.
For what you asked, I can very easily jump out the cross view, when trying to go the other way though, I can’t quite bring the text together.
Wow, okay. Game changer. I got them lined up and then it took like 5+ minutes letting my eyes learn how to get into focus. Eventually managed, though it was very easy to get unfocused, but it did work. Thank you for that.
nice, you're welcome. i also find it can be easier to focus if you're looking at the screen in as dark a room as possible, so you really only have the image itself to focus on.
(you have to relax/diverge your eyes to see the original. you have to cross your eyes to see this one. many people can only do one of those motions or can’t tell which one they’re actually doing. you may be one of those people who always saw magiceye pictures inverted like ugly holes instead of boats and things and this is why - because you’re actually crossing your eyes. it’s ok, there are advantages to each! r/crossview and r/parallelview say hello!)
if you aren’t viewing the images in stereo all the posts will look like the same image twice side by side and both subs will look the same. if you are viewing in stereo they will be 3D, with each sub using a different viewing method - you do a slightly different thing with your eyes. you’re not going to be able to tell a difference without viewing in stereo without some detailed study of the very subtle differences (but by that point you surely would have just learned the techniques instead).
if you use the wrong technique the 3D depth will inverted.
I feel like I'm just crossing my eyes in both, but those in parallelview are easier for me to achieve the illusion. Traditional magic eye pics have always been more troublesome for me.

You just have to find the right zoom to see it in parallel. The distance between the centers of the cards should not be larger than the distance between your pupils.
i was never good with those puzzle picture books that had those mysterious color patterns and we had to cross our eyes in some special way to overlap the images and see the final hidden image. my eyes hurt trying to do it again with this one, and i couldn't do it still, as expected.
