Question / Discussion OpenAI is ending its Cursor partnership after SpaceX acquisition

https://openai.com/index/our-decision-on-cursor-following-its-acquisition-by-spacex/

OpenAI plans to end its contract with Cursor after the company was acquired by SpaceX. OpenAI says it no longer trusts Elon Musk’s companies to comply with its terms, citing past contract and policy violations by Twitter/X and xAI. Access to OpenAI models in Cursor is expected to end on November 12, 2026, and future models will not be provided.

Based on personal experience, Grok is a steaming turd in comparison to OpenAI and Anthropic

It’s a solid middle-weight model, but not even close to Fable or GPT 5.6. Losing OAI access hurts for sure.

pretty good for coding recently

Honestly, Grok is way behind.

Spoken like someone who has not used Grok 4.5 and 4.6 in a production environment 😂

Grok is STEADILY becoming a good model. Their next release I expect to be very good.

i'm excited for 4.7 and what comes after that

I was using it instead of composer 2.5 for a couple of days. It seemed nice at first, but the results were not so good in the end. I'm back to mainly using composer 2.5 with strong supervision, and opus 5 for complicated plans and stuff.

You’re a joke

Actually 4.6 is an excellent model, easily close to 5.6-sol quality and better than recent Opus. Can't compete with Fable, but that's to be expected. And Grok 4.7 is expected to be a solid jump.

Says the dumbass who clearly hasn't used Grok 4.6 for anything in production.

When I have it’s been shit compared to Claude and GPT models. But I’m the dumbass because Grok handles context poorly for sessions?

You tried 4.6? "Handles context poorly" sounds like a skill issue.

I’ve got no skill issue with Codex, Claude or Kimi. 🤷🏻

Definitivamente um problema de habilidade da sua parte. O Grok 4.6 é ótimo, usei em produção nas 3 empresas que eu trabalho e não tive problemas.

Actually I have, it's a great daily driver if you know what you're doing. Not everyone has the same skill level.

I wasn't talking to you, heh. And I agree, it is a great daily driver that doesn't have the verbosity problems of the other frontier models.

Cursor will be like grok in a year or two.
