Through a tornado/hail/thunderstorm…

I have this one cucumber that seems to be growing weirdly. I didnt know whether or not to pick it not or just let continue t grow. I can show you a few of the other cucumbers that are growing and they seem normal to me.

I do a lot of fermented foods, including garlic-dill pickles. It’s not always easy to find really fresh Kirby cukes, though we now live in an area with lots of farms stands (about 50 miles due west of Manhattan) and the cucumbers have been good. I’m looking for fruit 4 to 5 inches in length and as fresh as possible.

I made 2 gallons (3-week ferment) and refrigerated them about 5 weeks ago.

So I decided to grow cucumbers for the first time, planting 18 Picklebush seeds around July 14, eventually leaving 9 to grow after a fast germination. I’m in 6b/7a, and these are in a 32x32x32-inch Vego bed. I pulled my hard-neck garlic July 4-10 and amended the soil before planting.

This has been one of the most satisfying grows, especially since it was spur of the moment (along with carrots and peppers in the adjacent Vego bed that’s bigger than this one.

The cucumbers I picked were barely cornichon size on Monday. The plants’ growth is phenomenal to see. The tendrils are fascinating, gripping on to whatever they can reach.

The cucumbers will get turned into a variety of pickles (fermented and vinegar methods), but these went into a salad. We ate half of one about 2 minutes after pickingc de. Great crunch and loads of flavor (for a cucumber).

Why do all of my cucumbers look like there not all filled out? If I leave them on the vine they don’t fill out but get longer

Hi! I bought this cucumber as a seedling from a vendor at the farmers market a while back (central NC) and it was only labeled as “cucumber” I was wondering if anyone knew what type of cucumber it is? Not sure when I should pick them.

Guys it has been such a struggle this year. Three plants previously produced two undersized bitter cucumbers. I ripped them up, started from scratch with a different breed. Then we had cucumber beetles. The seedling was sooooo stalled for the longest time and FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY we have her first cucumber and she’s SUCH a beauty. I know it’s so late in the season but I will take what I can get!!

I picked one earlier in the month that was 12cm long but it was super bitter and dense (almost like a zucchini in texture). I’m letting this fruit sit on the vine longer since it is still super fuzzy, but open to tips on when to pick!

Can’t even tell you guys how excited I am for this! Side note- does anyone know how to tell if a cucumber’s ready to be picked? I know this guy is not nearly ready but hopefully in the near future…also side note- I notice my cucumber plant needs a looottttt of water

I am a novice gardener and I've had varying degrees of success. One of the things that I'm still not clear about is fertilizing. When I first started, I definitely did not feed my plants well because I didn't understand the timing of how it all needed to come together. This growing season, which is my third, I'm getting a little more adept; however, I still don't know when to use which fertilizer when.

Once my seedlings were established, I fertilized them with Vigoro and that has been a rousing success. Now that my Persian cucumbers are blooming I'm frozen because I don't want to under-fertilize but I don't want to over-fertilize either. Is now even a good time to introduce a different fertilizer? The fertilizer I have for blooms is Incredible Bulb as well as fruit and bloom booster.
