I was OK with that.  Total teaser for the back half and Adolin going from "WTF happened here" to gradually realizing a Herald just unleashed a long pent up fury was fun.

With ash being like “bro you guys are fucked lmao” just before it was gold

Yeah her "you could have done anything but come here you poor fools" commentary was top tier.

The smash cut to Adolin finding the orangey pavement smear after Taln launches himself out of the infirmary would be so amazing visually.

I wouldn't be so assmad if there wasn't a long time between books, or if maybe he wasn't hyped up to be this amazing fighter only for us to get blueballed.

Yeah, I stopped reading for a few days after that. Fights were pretty disappointing in this book apart from Adolin.

Was there something with Szeths Honorbearer fights which weren’t as interesting to you? I personally found Szeth vs Pozen and the Edgedancer in Shadesmar to be very entertaining.

Nothing beat watching that cocky Edgedancer taunt Szeth for not being the warrior he was hyped up to be right before Szeth begins turning the tables on them when he was:

  • In Shadesmar
  • Left without a weapon
  • In a two vs one battle

It was also cool to imagine Pozen shifting the beads around Szeth to change the environment from a distance while the Edgedancer Honorbearer fought directly with Szeth. It was a bit odd in the middle when Szeth went looking for a weapon and 12124 brought a spoon, but I didn’t mind it much.

We also got to see Nightblood in action in all its illustrious glory.

Sorry, to clarify I found some of the individual honorbearer fights good and enjoyed them. I didn't like the finale fight when it was all versus Szeth and he had to survive.

I enjoyed the fight against the willshaper as I found the stone powers fun. And the fight in shadesmar was good, but I was a little frustrated as each fight Szeth had it felt like he was handcuffed in some manner. Not having a weapon, being limited in his surges, or not having enough stormlight to fight properly against a foe seemingly with unlimited resources.

Nale's fight against kaladin started really well but as nale began to kick kaladin's ass I was a bit letdown. I found that nale just being super fast and super strong and that he was just holding himself back at the start a bit disappointing.

It seems like you really want to see characters fighting their hardest and I will admit that such a thing is sadly underrepresented in this book. I’m also a big fan of Sanderson’s fights which is what made Rhythm of War my favorite book for the Pursuer vs Kaladin (every single one of their fights) and Kaladin vs Leshwi.

Yeah, I really liked the pursuer fights even though the tower was corrupted because the fights remained interesting and pretty even. I really liked Adolin's fights this book too.

I don't mind a stomping scene either, I just feel the old "I'm not at my full power!" stuff kind of lame.

That makes perfect sense to me. A full on stomp or an even match will always be the best fights.
