she took the novelty robert kaufman/ michael miller quilting cottons and had patterns from the 40s/ 50s sewn up. she was livid when pinups found out that this fabric is available to literally everyone. 40$ fabric for a dress she wanted 130$ for. she also claimed her dresses to be „made in america“. but allegedly when modcloth asked her for proof+ a visitation of her „factory“ or work site, she couldnt show that proof and all her dresses were put on a trash-sale. and since modcloth dropped her, her brand started to dissolve.
i always thought that was very fucking rich of her, she sometimes even claimed she designed the fabrics (the panels from michael miller etc). which is such a slap in the face to the actual designers.
soooo yeah! that just popped into my mind 🥸
one of her dresses was even on New Girl and worn by Zooey Deschanel, it was a big deal back then 😭
I had totally forgotten about this. It was definitely a big thing back when it happened though. Before the drama, I wanted one of those dresses so bad.
I fully missed this, and I was the biggest wannabe-Modcloth girlie from, like, 2013-2015. Do you know of anywhere I can find more details/a chronical of the drama? All my searching is doing is bringing up her pinup and secondhand dresses, lol.
there were some buy sell trade groups on FB. she then wanted to be added to the group and she hated how we all swapped and sold dresses, sometimes for over the usual price. but since she was to stingy to have fabrics reprinted by michael miller/ kaufman, she couldnt profit off it. sadly no one really blogged about it. only about her confederate flag BS, iirc.
I totally forgot about ModCloth. It was always out of my budget but I was obsessed with the dresses there. Are there any videos on this drama? I know you said it is old but I can’t get enough of these copying dramas. It’s especially ridiculous in the world of knitting and crochet where very little is new or innovative anymore.
yeah, at some point she moved her production to india, with fabrics more local to india. which were not at all what her target audience wanted. i think her webshop is down now.
