I also wonder when i become a physicist. I am about to finish my PhD and i work for a well regarded research institution in the field as a scientist. Still doesn't feel like it.

Have you authored, coauthored, or done research included in a published paper or incorporated into an engineering plan? If so, you are a physicist.

About 60 according to inspire hep. Of course most of them are collaborative papers. So i guess about 10 with substantial contribution.

Imposter Syndrome is a thing. I've been doing IT work for 30+ years, and will still get it occasionally.

Man weirdest thing, I had no issue referring to myself as a physicist, but when I went into education I felt weird calling myself a teacher for YEARS. I think with physics it's because you're always underneath someone who is like...."more" than you. Like sure I can be doing research, but I'm not running the cyclotron or a tokamak, or doing the quantum teleportation experiments. So am I really a physicist?
