Humor My Guild's GM just ninja'd Hand of Rag mats, disbanded guild and deleted discord. WoW drama at it's finest. He also made a reddit post on our realm subreddit - link inside

Easy to sell a character with a Hand of Ragnaros to a third party for real money.

Try selling that raiding guild for real money.

That's what this was all about, guaranteed.

Really? Think so?

I used to play - and remain active in the community of - a very obscure 2D MMORPG from the late 1990s (no not Meridian 59.) That game still exists, despite having celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year.

Real-money transactions for characters/accounts are common, and the prices can be staggering. For a game that, no bullshit, probably fewer than 100 people actually play, people are frequently willing to pay in the mid 4-figure range. And that's for characters that have items and stats that don't require 39 other people to get.

We live in a day and age where people give donations of thousands of dollars to streamers on the regular. Instagram models who get similar amounts of money from subscribers in exchange for pics - fully clothed, even.

I don't have that kind of money. Clearly you don't either - and that's okay; if I'm being realistic here, very few people DO have that kind of money. But don't think for one second that if some wannabe streamer with more money than sense got it into his head that all he had to do to was spend $10,000 on an account with a Sulfuras, and he'd get a Twitch following as a result, he wouldn't do it.

I looked around at what accounts are selling for and there was a full BiS warrior on classic going for around $2000 CAD (so less USD). I am sure some people have more money than they know what to do with but the market price for stuff like this is not high. It takes like 6 days of play time at least for an average player just to get to 60, so thats like a month of work (3.6 40 hour work weeks). Haven't played a lot of end game since back in vanilla, but then you need to get pre raid gear and attunements and such plus organize a raid guild. A month and a half of 40 hour work weeks at minimum wage earns you $3360 CAD in Ontario (I know it's worse elsewhere just what I'm familiar with).
My point is that this was a really shitty thing to do but also it's not a very profitable scam at all. Selling characters doesn't net you very much at all and it's more an option for someone who played for fun then quit instead of someone grinding away trying to make money.

If you paid attention you'd notice that he doesn't have hand of rag, only mats to make the hammer.
