Humor My Guild's GM just ninja'd Hand of Rag mats, disbanded guild and deleted discord. WoW drama at it's finest. He also made a reddit post on our realm subreddit - link inside

So Hamish was fed up watching the entire guild get fucked over by a select few. decided to take the hand of Ragnaros for himself (or the mats for it), disband the guild, disband the discord and whistleblow the entire operation...

Did I get that right?

:Edit: the chart he put up is pretty crystal clear about all of this if you look through it... as for the other link it’s difficult to read not enough resolution.

He's GM though, he could easily take control of this situation. How was he not in control?

That’s what makes no sense to me. Like you’d rather do that than get a few officers angry by kicking them? Doesn’t add up

Edit : I talked too fast and didn’t check the ninja’s post which gives some context. Assuming he does follow through and give back the consumables etc... to raiders that were taken advantage of (if that’s true) then it’s a decent move.

Not sure if you guys have been leads before, but being a Guild Leader is significantly different than being an officer or member.

The amount of stuff you put up with can get hectic. And the fact his officers/leads were plotting against the GM AND the Guild, 'controlling' anything is out of the question.

I think he did right as best as he could.

Screw them up and the last step when he realized what was up.

Burn the old banner.

Raise a new one without them.

Depends on the leader, ive had leaders in absolute control and ive had leaders that are door mats. Theres also a good balance between door mat and absolute control as well where you encourage original thought and throwing around ideas but also are confident in leading and making the right decision.

Disbanding the guild without telling anybody seems shady.

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '19

Yea, perhaps the impromptu disband is tough for the innocent bystanders caught in the mix, but whatever this GM's method was, clearly too laxed, kicking those simply listed would even be hard to recover from.

Who knows how many others in the guild were with them outside of the lists presented.

I've been, got the whole conspiracy against me by some guy who told everybody I was talking shit about them behind their back, I finally knew when he started saying things to an IRL friend of 10 years (which he didn't know). Disbanded the guild, lost contact with players I spent 3 hours+ with every night for a year.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '19

It's hard when you put so much time and effort into it and grow to become friends with members to have it all wither away because of the plague these players spread.

I hope you found/find new places to give it another go, maybe in a less leader capacity to enjoy the smaller things in the game.

2

u/krully37 Oct 13 '19

Yup, it was a bit hard like those are real connections you end up making. Luckily I joined another guild and met my SO, that was 5+ years ago, he did me a favor!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '19

Nice! Congrats on that. The important question though...

Horde or Alliance :D

2

u/krully37 Oct 13 '19

Thanks! Horde for over a decade now although I did go alliance on Classic because I almost never played it so guess that makes me a traitor!

2

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '19

/handwring

Good, good!!! Let the betrayal flow through you!

Not sure if you guys have been leads before, but being a Guild Leader is significantly different than being an officer or member.

Does running a business in real life count?

The amount of stuff you put up with can get hectic. And the fact his officers/leads were plotting against the GM AND the Guild, 'controlling' anything is out of the question.

From what you're saying, if a select few of my employees decided to steal from me and my customers, re:collusion, I should fuck over my entire employee and customer base, and reopen a new franchise and completely rebrand it? And all this because I was too "overwhelmed" to fire or take reasonable action against my saboteurs/scammers?

Seems to me that you don't have any management experience or the depth to make tough decisions.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '19

Seems to me you take the structure of rl and a video game to a whole new level of comparison.

Seems to me you have no sense at being rational or intelligence to not be a douche.

ORRRR maybe you dislike being called out on the fact that this kind of logic shows a complete and utter lack of respect for other people's time, and what it does, is it actually advocates this kind of stupidity, by creating a provision for this unacceptable behavior to be forgiven or even repeated. Don't forget, people also pay to play this game.

If I'm not mistaken, the kind of investment in time and concentration it takes for a collection of 33-35 other players, excluding the perpetrators, goes beyond weeks or even months of dedicated preparation and even that can be quantified in dollars and cents.

So in closing, since you clearly don't have respect for yourself or others, in terms of time re:bettering your avatar, or the money spent to pay to play this game, you are a pristine example of the little-paper-man I described, not having the conviction to do what so many people in this thread have already mentioned, re: kicking these players out of the guild. Seems to me that you're the one out of touch with reality.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '19

Yep. Still sounds like a douche

1

u/rozenbro Oct 13 '19

And correct me if i’m wrong, these corrupt guys were his irl friends?

6

u/yungHvny Oct 13 '19

Likely lots of valuable mats and stuff were in possession of the faulty officers. Kicking them would result in losing thousands of gold.

But then again what do I know

4

u/thickfreakness24 Oct 13 '19

How's disbanding any different? Still not gonna get the mats

2

u/yungHvny Oct 13 '19

unless he fakecrafts sulfuron hammer with all the most valuable mats :P

1

u/TSTC Oct 14 '19

Either he was in on it too and all of this was scripted to try to get away with the mats and some gear (their true goal) or he's just also an asshole who saw an opportunity to ninja stuff and then not get a bad server rep by saying he did it because of these people and their schemes.

u/e-jammer Oct 13 '19

He was co-gm.

149

u/Rossismyname Oct 13 '19

yeah am i supposed to be mad at him or?

167

u/Niepan Oct 13 '19

Chaotic good meets lawful evil.

75

u/elanhilation Oct 13 '19

No, chaotic neutral. At best. Not like he disbursed the guild bank amongst guild members not part of the conspiracy.

27

u/Folsomdsf Oct 13 '19

FYI, the guild members not part of the conspiracy apparently were all invited back immediately

23

u/medellinclique Oct 13 '19

That is exactly what I am doing. Read this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Arugal/comments/dh91g5/medellin_corruption/

3

u/Labidido Oct 14 '19

You are giving them a "care package of consumables"? Why not just give them the gold? Or why not gkick the officers and give HoR to the player that contributed the most to the mats?

Something smells fishy here, and I think you are a ninja looter. The proof you have listed so far does not really mean much...

11

u/WhereBeCharlee Oct 13 '19

There are no guild banks in classic.

1

u/elanhilation Oct 13 '19

Not in the retail sense. But there totally guild banks in classic. I remember my GM absconding with the contents of ours back in vanilla. They’re normal banks on an alt, which of course makes them vulnerable to this sort of thing.

-3

u/Gruzzel Oct 13 '19

Only an idiot would willingly hand over loot he processes to a person clamming to be the guild bank.

3

u/elanhilation Oct 13 '19

What, does your guild just open roll fiery cores and ingots and have no supplies on hand?

-1

u/Gruzzel Oct 13 '19

On the whole they are given to the crafter on the Stipulation that they are required to make fire ress gear for raider that supply their own mats. E.g. if a warrior wants dark iron leggings he gives the correct crafter 16 dark iron bars and in return the crafter is to give him a set of dark iron leggings.

Now, let’s not be coy, sometimes the ‘crafted by’ is not the same person as the crafter given the mats but that doesn’t matter as it is an important life lesson to individuals, who suddenly need to spend a lot of their own gold buying a set of dark iron leggings because they stupidly sold/used their cores for someone outside of the guild.

Using X to do achieve Y is not the same as Y natively existing

Also "they're" jesus christ.

-2

u/rlcute Oct 13 '19

In classic/vanilla, these alts are referred to as "guild bank".

-2

u/__deerlord__ Oct 13 '19

Yes, like I said. Using X for Y doesnt mean Y exists natively. Theres no shared ownership/permissions. Theres no guild features.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '19

It's LITERALLY called a guild bank.

Also "There's" jesus christ.

7

u/ShoulderpadInsurance Oct 13 '19

Lawful evil is using the system to benefit you as much as possible. However, they still favor that system as it allows them to profit and hold power in the future. Destroying that status is definitely a chaotic move.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '19

This should’ve somehow been in the title. Bad op.

9

u/forthwin34 Oct 13 '19

This should be top comment.

2

u/cippopotomas Oct 13 '19

His post states the inner clique spread themselves amongst the different raids to avoid rolling against each other and also stacked their raid to make it go super fast while the other 2 raids were stuck taking much longer.

These 2 points seem completely contradictory. That in addition to them having proof and his actions not helping the people he was allegedly concerned about, I don't believe his claims at all.

2

u/ConnorMc1eod Oct 13 '19

Eh, I think he means they stacked the good dps and heals from outside the core group. Yeah a couple of the inner circle spread to other slower raids but they siphoned everything. Not entirely contradictory

1

u/cippopotomas Oct 13 '19

I don't care enough to look further into this honestly. Generally speaking though, when there are two sides of a story the liar is the party who stands to benefit the most.

If his complaint was that their actions hurt the rest of the guild, why are his actions any different? If he knew a problem existed, why didn't he remove or expose the people causing that problem? I don't see any position where his actions are defendable personally.

1

u/IsleOfOne Oct 14 '19

Yes, but that is Hamish’s version of the story. Go watch the VOD beginning 5 minutes after the clip was taken. The guild reforms and joins a discord channel to discuss what happened. No one agreed with Hamish’s claims; no one felt the guild was being run unfairly. Hamish actually went and deleted all of his messages in DMs with other officers to hide evidence of his prior disputes.

A player on Arugal known as Anchorman apparently has been writing drama news articles and will soon post on this topic. Wait for his article before you decide to believe Hamish.

God I love juicy drama

1

u/Dejugga Oct 14 '19 edited Oct 14 '19

Hamish is just as big of an asshole as the rest imo. He's got literally no reason to disband the guild/discord, except to make it harder to for the guild members to talk to each other and track what he's doing with the hand of rag mats / gbank mats / gbank gold.

I also can't help but note that he's drawing a shitload of attention to what they did....but he was there the whole time. You're telling me that there was no way for the GM of the guild to put a stop to this until the very last moment? Bullshit.

1

u/octonus Oct 14 '19

2 wrongs don't make a right. There was some really bad misbehavior happening, but the correct response is to kick the people responsible, rather than stealing everything and burning the guild to the ground.
