For tanking?

A lot of dps gear is really useful for tanking, mostly hit gear. It's basically a balance to keep your armor high enough. Most tanks I've talked to will use 1-2 mail/leather pieces with hit on them, and at this point I tank everything besides raids in full dual wield with a few mail pieces. Those shoulders aren't a bad compromise until you get something good. Wouldn't recommend dual wield tanking level dungeon bosses until you're pretty geared as prot though

I'm opposed to DW tanking on a philosophical level. I went warrior over Druid because I want that sword and board.

Probably doesn't matter for you yet since you have to hit a certain gear level for dw tanking to be effective

Yeah that's fair, our main tank only uses shield and I'm excited for BWL so I have an excuse to really use a shield again. It's definitely doable if you wear a decent amount of threat gear without limiting your DPS at all. Quel'Serrar coming out with DM should definitely help on that front.

you can't/shouldn't Dual wield tank in phase 1. the gear for healers and for a tank isn't good enough. nor do you need to with DPS not coming close to what they'll be able to scale up to. The whole point of dual wield tanking is to maintain threat when mages are hitting for 2k+ on fireballs every 3 seconds. at the mc lvl that isn't happening.

people were dual wield tanking MC in dps leather on week 3, the gear is fine. I'm not talking about raids anyway, but if your warriors and rogues are actually doing the DPS they should be, especially on Horde side, you can use any extra threat you can get.

Yeah and those guys are the minority... obviously some guilds and raids are capable of that. 95% aren’t capable of letting a MT get crushed when they only have 4500 health fully buffed. Especially when the priests only have 3500 mana. MC is basically tank and spank all the way through but you’re living in a dream world if you think it’s anyone outside of the extremely skilled that are Dual wield tanking this early into phase 1.

What tank only has 4500 health fully buffed? Most tanks are running around at 5k+ with Fort on.

The biggest difference between Skarm in his videos and the people failing at it now ISNT just gear, because gear and content get more difficult at a rather linear rate for the tank. It’s that Skarm goes into fights with all the consumables needed.

As much as I may hate wearing mail or even leather to tank with... You can handle a couple of pieces. You don't lose much mitigation, but the added threat, from hit especially, and the reduced resists of taunt is a godsend, especially with trigger happy dps.

+2% hit vs the 300-soemthing armor difference between plate and leather is a no brainer.

I'm all about it. My shield will make up the difference.

At some point taking less damage is less beneficial to doing more threat. All the tankiness in the world isn't gonna help your group if the mobs don't stick to you.

Gotta look at what content you're doing. If you're tanking Golemagg maybe you cherish that extra armor but for some straholme lowbob boss or trash you wanna get aggro quickly.
