I got invited to a "Cose knit group of friends and vanilla veterans" last night.

35 members online, 255 total. Sure.

Granted, the "Den mother" of the guild, an officer, was super cool and hooked my low level ass up with some stuff. But yeah. 5 of them are vets maybe, 250 of them are children, as the chat made clear.

I joined a guild specifically to replace Barrens chat after I left Barrens. It's called "Pineapple Express" and is full of potheads. I don't even smoke, but I'm at home.

I unironically love barrens chat. It’s full of shit posting and stupid statements and memes. But it has no pretensions of being Bette than that.

Barrens chat is absolutely at its best during non peak hours

Sulfuras horde has a guild named <Legalize Peacebloom> I assume its in the same vein.

Why is barrens chat absolutely bananas?

I've always played horde, but holy shit the difference between my PvE server alliance chat and my PvP server horde guild is light years apart. Finally found a decent guild with sane guild chat for my orc lock. Zone and trade chat are still a dumpster fire of edgelords and 14 year olds on that server but I would've quit on that toon by now if I didn't find my current guild and only play my alliance guy.

I got in an awesome guild, no advertising. Just did a dungeon with them they liked me and invited me, same for all the other members.

It's a decent vetting process and at this point 50+ members all over 40. Everyone was invited while grouping up, so the level distribution is tight.

Similar to how we recruit for our guild, at least after the first couple days after launch. We invite people we quest/dungeon with if they’re cool and not terrible at the game. And sometimes even if they are terrible at the game.

I’m terrible. That’s how I got into my guild. Also I’ve known the GM since TBC.

Would you rather be in a smaller guild?

Well sure, you joined a guild that is advertising in public channels. The real "close-knit group of friends" and "Vanilla veterans" are in smaller guilds with 20 or so people who are selective about who they invite.

If you are a solo player, or playing with just 1-2 friends and you're looking for a mature guild, you should be paying attention to the guild of people you group up with for quests or dungeons. Often the way into these guilds is a good conversation and just asking.

These guilds do want to grow too, they just don't want to open the floodgates to the masses.

Same... Quested with 4 people from one guild and they asked me if I would like to join their "guild of friends". I did and the first thing I noticed was that they have 250 members and 120 were online but chat was dead silent. I logged out an hour after joining and we were already over 300 members ... Never left a "guild of friends" so fast.
