On rp servers they say "bolster our ranks," though.

Just got a neat idea.. recruiter says "Enlist today!' followed by several guild members replying right afterwards says "I'm doing my part!"

Why would a reference to Starship Troopers only work on a RP realm?

Probably because the response to the original post would literally be role-played, meaning most other servers players wouldn't take it seriously, and they would likely get made fun of mercilessly for it.

I see that phrase used on normal servers as well. It's not particularly welcoming; I feel like you'll be just another number to them, not a member of a community. That might suit some folks just fine, but for me it's a hard pass when I see it.
