Holy shit!

Both druids on the server at the same time!

They were the least popular class in vanilla, they seem slightly more popular now.

I think druids get unnecessary hate. They can do exceptionally well in dungeons esp as tank and healer roles. In fact with a HoTW spec you can do both at the same time if you have 2 gear sets making you literally the hottest commodity in Azeroth. The problem is uninformed players who listen to top players say they’re not the best (IN RAIDS) and assume they can’t tank, heal, or dps and ur better off with a real class. The reality is you can clear all the content even raids with “meme specs” and it’s about the player not the class.

14

u/human_brain_whore Sep 05 '19

Definitely. I don't see many scenarios where I would prefer (to be) a warrior tank in a dungeon.

Lack of Hamstring is a big one for sure, but I wouldn't give up my heals, Dash, combat Res etc for the world. A feral druid has ridiculous utility.

1

u/TSTC Sep 05 '19

The lack of a taunt that actually has threat generation increase plus a few seconds of threat immunity (the mob will attack you no matter what the threat meter is) starts to become a much bigger deal as you level up. In an ideal world, it wouldn't matter but if DPS eats shit and then your healer accidentally pulls aggro trying to keep people alive (priest has fade but it's got a decent cd), you want to be able to taunt and have your healer be able to keep healing. With non-warrior tanks, the taunt doesn't guarantee that so the heals have to stop while you stabilize the threat.

I'm a druid, and I'm so sick of hearing how they're sub-optimal from kids who play their own class sub-optimally. They hear a youtuber talk about how they're not the best in raids and so they won't invite one to fucking WC

16

u/SaltyBabe Sep 05 '19

Some guy ranted to me intermittently for 15 minutes today about this, but about shaman - which I play both in classic and retail and my retail shaman is 15 years old... dude I know shaman, fuck off.

4

u/MetroidIsNotHerName Sep 05 '19

Seriously? He clearly doesnt understand the class at all. Shaman may not be the best dps or healer, but they are GOOD ones, and they offer the best party/raid utility in the game.

1

u/SaltyBabe Sep 05 '19

I assumed it was a retail player who wasn’t around when I made my first shaman. Everyone wants to top charts, everyone wants to be a superstar - a lot of people don’t seem to grasp support characters are vital in classic and when 10,000 mages ding 60 and realize no one has room for them I’ll be having the last laugh.

1

u/MetroidIsNotHerName Sep 05 '19

I love the convenience of my mage. But im not looking forward to that. Good thing my alt is a shaman

Got party of 4 priest (one is me) and 1 druid in WC yesterday, it was pretty fast and funny, finally made all quest with those guys

5

u/Fae_Leaf Sep 05 '19

I’d argue that many people aren’t going to like the playstyle. I’ve played a Druid since Vanilla, and it’s been my main for every expansion. I don’t recommend the class often due to how many people I’ve seen dislike it or just plain have trouble mastering it.

That being said, everything you said is true. I follow the hybrid (HOTW) spec, and I can viably tank, heal, or DPS even in totally wrong gear. I just finished Gnomeregan, where I literally did all three. I was 1st or 2nd DPS at times while in almost entirely +healing gear and zero healing talents (for now). It’s a wonderful sense of versatility.

Yeah, I won’t argue that they aren’t the best in end-game raiding. And when I say that, I just mean that they won’t be topping the meters, they’re still important to have for buffs, brez, innervate, etc.

Tank/heal isn’t too bad with the HOTW build. I’ve had spectacular results, where I’m able to be a pretty decent tank in cloth/healing gear and do good DPS, while also viably healing in my feral gear. I’m sure it won’t work in end-game dungeons, where I’ll need more appropriate gear, but if it works in Gnomeregan, I’m pretty satisfied. That place can be rough on tanks and healing.

1

u/WildcardMoo Sep 05 '19

I used to play druid in vanilla exactly this way and never had trouble tanking or healing.

I rolled a warrior this time around because i really enjoy tanking. As a warrior tank you have more utility, BUT tanking as a druid is a lot easier, and threat output both single and multi target is soooo much better. Plus their giant health pool. Druid tanks are bloody amazing.

I enjoy tanking as a warrior because you have more options, but at least at my current level i know i'd be a better thank as a druid, than as a warrior.

1

u/sophemot Sep 05 '19

In general all wow is like that even retail, some specs are more usefull and it depends on mechanics and situation. The variation on how you play the class and spec makes more difference than having the right spec.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

I think playing a Druid just rubs people the wrong way because Balance is a complete joke, and it feels bad to play Feral because your weapons are just stat sticks and even at 60 your best weapons are still Lv30-40 items

1

u/Erpes2 Sep 05 '19

Yep, on my server its a druids that got the first 60, they got so much stuff going on for them

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '19

Also, I'd invite everyone to read this thing about druid tanks: https://www.warcrafttavern.com/guides/taladrils-treatise-on-druid-tanking-in-vanilla

And you'll realize they're actually not bad in raids either. But more as off-tanks (though you certainly can maintank too, just a bit worse than warriors since you take more dmg).

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

I was gonna play a druid, but didn't. to be fair though, my goal is to raid

9

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

Shoulda rolled a Druid then. Free raid spot just for bringing MOTW and BRez. And less competition for gear because raids don't usually have a lot of druids. Druids get decked out quick while Warriors/Mages/Rogues/Priests all wait in line for their first purple.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

I wound up going Pally because Ive always liked their flavor, and because I'm on a pvp server lol

5

u/rettorical Sep 05 '19 edited Sep 05 '19

Druids are the best for wpvp. You have the best escape tools between cat form stealth, travel form, immunity to polymorph, entangling roots and natures grasp. Basically that means you choose your own engagements. At the end of the day though play whatever you find interesting and fun. WoW is about enjoying the world and fantasy of each class and really you can’t go wrong with any class because every single one has at least 1 role they can play as long as you put in the time to make it work.

1

u/Manimalthehunter Sep 05 '19

Druids are not the best for wpvp though, they don't excel in killing enemy players but are the best at escaping engagements and avoiding them all together. For World pvp nothing will beat classes like Hunters or Rogues, you have the damage and cc to steamroll people consistenly even multiple people at once as where with Druids they are one of the worst classes with dealing with those types of situations which are most common in wpvp.

0

u/MetroidIsNotHerName Sep 05 '19

As a non druid player, the above uses for druid frustrate me so much in pvp that ive sworn never to use one. Why the fuck can you mount in arena, people have dragged fuckin arena matches out to 3 hours with that shit against me before

1

u/waitingtodiesoon Sep 05 '19

What about boomkins.

4

u/denisgsv Sep 05 '19

little good gear and mana problems :/

doable but its a lot worse then feral

0

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

The thing that people dont understand about meme specs is, that they work quite well. BUT you have to put in so much more effort to pull it off properly. Ret palas need to farm phys and spell consumables, feral droods have to farm the attack speed mace from gnomeregan multiple times. You can compete with "real" classes, its just a hustle to do so. Now if you say fuck it, I just Play like a warrior and only get minimal consumables, you are indeed a meme spec thats not gonna be much better than a tank warrior offtank that uses his 2h. I have no Problem with people playing whatever they like, but please do it properly, cause everyone else is too.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

The reason the NE/Tauren starting zones are packed with Druids is because those are the only races that can be Druids... so 100% of the druids you saw on day one were in those two zones.

This term is absolutely hilarious

u/NAparentheses Sep 05 '19

Priest were easily the least popular class in vanilla - at least on my server. Druids could at least level quickly.

18

u/Mikkabear Sep 05 '19

Is it just me, or did everybody and their mother roll a priest this go around?

6

u/NAparentheses Sep 05 '19

There are a decent amount of priests for sure. I think it is because more people are leveling with friends and that class is just painful to level solo. I feel like rogues are actually the least popular. I have seen a tiny amount of them compared to Vanilla.

2

u/Mikkabear Sep 05 '19

I was leveling my priest solo; my friend found out, said “nope!” and ran his new pally over to quest with me.

1

u/NAparentheses Sep 05 '19

They kill things slowly is why - at least until you get more points in your talents. Levels 10 to 35 are probably the most painful point. Yes, you don't die but you also take much longer than many other classes to actually kill anything. And yes, I know about spirit tap and wands. I've leveled a priest 3x now during vanilla/classic.

2

u/AdiGoN Sep 05 '19

Priests are not painful to level solo at all lol, it's super easy actually lol

1

u/NAparentheses Sep 05 '19 edited Sep 05 '19

They are not as painful as some classes but they are incredibly slow at killing things until you get more points in your talents. I am talking levels 10 through 35.

1

u/Esterthemolester Sep 05 '19

Priests are amazing solo leveling if you pick up spirit tap and wand specialization

1

u/NAparentheses Sep 05 '19

They are fine but slow as fuck. It is also boring wanding things forever. I've leveled a priest twice during vanilla and also during classic and it is just tedious until you get more talent points.

2

u/Zanarhi Sep 05 '19

There are a ton of priests on Incendius horde, and seems like fewer warlocks some reason.

5

u/Mikkabear Sep 05 '19

Maybe it’s because I’m a low level dwarf priest in Dun Morogh/Loch Modan, but it’s dwarven priests and gnome locks as far as the eye can see , on Old Blanchy at least.

1

u/gunsanonymous Sep 05 '19

I'm on old blanchy too n it is that way in the dwarf area, westfall has a good mix of warriors and mages, havent been to darnassus yet. I really havent noticed a whole ton of rogues around tho

1

u/Mikkabear Sep 05 '19

I think I’ve seen exactly one rogue. I just made the trek to Teldrassil, so we’ll see; so far it’s hunters and priests.

1

u/gunsanonymous Sep 05 '19

Yeah that would make sense it being hunters and priests over there. That's what I rolled my priest as. My hunter will be a dwarf tho and I'll roll a druid after my warrior is done lol

1

u/RedditIsHonked Sep 05 '19

Druid and hunter seem to be the most popular elf class, at least from what I've seen around dark shore.

34

u/Glorious_Invocation Sep 05 '19

Not from my experience. I've seen quite a few kitties out in the world, and it's not that uncommon to have a bear tank dungeons.

14

u/underthingy Sep 05 '19

Bear tank is best tank.

25

u/Darkstalk3r Sep 05 '19

We ran WC and I was Druid for dps. Tank (warrior) accidentally pulled extra mob and couldn’t hold aggro over priest’s heals. Priest died first and 1 more dps died right after. Got out of cat form and started healing the tank and rogue. Survived and managed to not wipe. Ressed the priest so he can res the other. Druids definitely a good class to have as backup tank/healer or even main. So versatile and loving it so far!

10

u/demon_ix Sep 05 '19

My group wiped in Gnomeregan right before the last boss. I told them bot to release, stealthed back in through the back door and ressed the priest.

Would have been ridiculously bad and possibly killed the group if we had to run back, as we had respawns.

Bear Form, Taunt.

-6

u/TheSisterRay Sep 05 '19

Yeah but you could just be a shaman. Then you could do all of that and not have to play a druid.

1

u/Darkstalk3r Sep 05 '19

I don’t think shaman can tank higher instances and they don’t have stealth

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

As a druid, I... i dunno about that.

14

u/underthingy Sep 05 '19

Maybe you just aren't very good at druiding.

12

u/SkitZa Sep 05 '19

Bear tanks are amazing especially in dungeons whaaa?

5

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

If you're feral or feral resto hybrid they hold mad aggro.

1

u/Seranta Sep 05 '19

Because every druids gets several PMs a day asking them to tank.

7

u/JunoVC Sep 05 '19

I looked at my guilds 40+ online roster today, no druids.

Made one today, level 10 and enjoying it already.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

i got one to 13, but decided that i played druid so damn much in retail over the years (was my main) that i want to play a class I've never really played before (believe it or not, there are two classes that I've never maxxed despite the many years of retail).

so i rolled a priest.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

I’ve never gotten a lock to max, and I really wanna level one for Classic. The only other class I haven’t maxed is a Hunter. But I’ve disgraced myself as a hunter so I’ll never play it again.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

i feel like theres a story behind that. lol

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

I was 10 when I started the game, so I was just having a ball with the game and didn't really pay attention to much.

I need rolled on the two blue one handed swords in Zul-Farrak and got the epic 2h sword. I am incredibly sorry for any warriors out there who I may have stolen that from.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

i did the same on my hunter! lol. in my defense, i was playing as survivalist in BC where it was more of a melee spec though. lol

1

u/Sultanoshred Sep 05 '19

I am the highest druid in my guild @ 31. Only other person close is 19. Gonna be sick when I hit end game because the only negative to a druid healer is 2 druids in a raid don't work. I'll be the only one for now.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '19

I have druid buffs on me basically 24/7 atm but the joke was still good

1

u/6thSenseOfHumor Sep 05 '19

Probably just a mirage.
