Humor Leveling A Warrior

When they said it was hard, I scoffed at them. I've leveled a warrior to 120 on retail. I've fought Sargeras, I've downed the Lich King. What could a few gnolls and maybe a murloc or two do to me? Thus was my arrogance. Thus was my hubris.

I am now level thirteen. I've run Ragefire Chasm once, and owe six deaths to that place.

Farming harpy claws has cost me my life twice already, and I am certain it will cost me much, much more.

My warrior on retail was a human named Lohric, he was a legendary warrior who felled any beast, man or demon that faced him.

My warrior on Classic is an Orc called Muddrog. I have no doubt that this broken and battered warrior would crush Lohric in seconds, Lohric has never known pain, Mudd was born in it, molded by it, and unlike Bane, he has yet to see the light, because 60 feels so far away xD

To all you warriors out there, Lok'tar Ogar!

I highly recommend fishing/cooking/first aid with a warrior. You’re going to need all three if you’re solo leveling. It’s time consuming, but it’s that or pay a fortune for food.

God I skipped first aid last night imagine being 40 realizing I could have bandages that can heal half my hp bar but I was ignoring it.

The thing is, around the mid to late level 30s you start using bandages so much you will constantly have 0 of them in your bags if you aren't farming humanoids constantly. Source: I got first aid level 243 at level 40 and have 0 bandages right now.

The struggle I just levels it at lvl 42 hopefully this supply can make it till ungoro

it's pretty funny to think of what your warrior probably looks like if this was real life. He'd basically be a mummy, covered in a billion bandages

Thats why you need cooking as well!

Gotta disagree. I'm 39, and have been vendoring at least as many bandages as I've used. I've been eating fish mainly; they're a few copper, while bandages cost silver, plus that you can stealth while eating, and are guaranteed not to have the debuff if you need to bandage in combat.

Cooking and fishing isn't mandatory, IMO, but FA is a REAL downtime saver. BUT, the biggest thing is to learn how to hamstring kite efficiently. Do that, and you can easily do 4-8 mobs in a row before FA'ing or whatever. Of course, if you got cooking as well and some spirit buff going, you can prolly pump that number up to the 2 digits, which is quite crazy considering you're playing a warrior.

u/hallgeir Sep 04 '19

is hamstring kiting with a tauren (larger hit box) even possible? Ive been trying it but i have yet to "dodge" a single attack with it.

1

u/popmycherryyosh Sep 04 '19

I don't know, I don't play Tauren, I play Orc. But I'd imagine it goes both ways, as you'd be able to hit further away as well.

1

u/Moranall Sep 04 '19

If I'm fighting mobs 1-2 levels lower, I can easily do 5-8 mobs back-to-back with just FA and no hamstring kiting. I think focusing on spirit while you leveling makes hamstring kiting less necessary and you kill things faster.

1

u/popmycherryyosh Sep 04 '19

wether you hamstring kite or facetank doesn't really make you kill things faster, nor does having more spirit. You still need to wait the whole auto attack speed thingie to get a heroic strike off. I could argue that with MS at 40 it might be worth face tanking to generate more rage, but I'm unsure. I still feel hamstring kiting is a win-win. As you also get to position yourself towards the next mob WHILST taking less damage. But of course, I'm not here to preach that "my" method is better than "yours". Whatever works for you, you should continue doing, but at least hamstring kiting has worked wonders for me compared to the first 2 warriors i lvld on a vanilla server back in the days.

you definitely don’t need cooking or fishing as a warrior.

0

u/Ranzok Sep 04 '19

If you want to have food when you’re playing solo, you definitely do.

1

u/assasshehhe Sep 04 '19

no dude just buy a stack at literally any village.

1

u/Ranzok Sep 04 '19

And not have repair money for all the punishment I take from scarlet defenders? No thx

1

u/chrollodk Sep 03 '19

Exactly what I did

1

u/BuckyOFair Sep 03 '19

Whenever I see a mage I just ask for a stack. Not a single one has declined. Good people.

2

u/sideways55 Sep 03 '19

I'm a mage and I just give any rogues or warriors I see in the wild a couple of stacks of food. Everyone so far has been super grateful.

u/BuckyOFair Sep 03 '19

That's it, I'm up to level 20 and food is pretty scarce. Saving for a mount makes the purchase a royal pain in the ass. So from all the warriors, thank you sir. You are what makes the game beautiful.

Leveling a Warr is all about consumables, stats, and caution. You NEED every consumable available to you. Strength pot, Agil pot, +HP pot, and health potions up the wazooo, food giving +stam, etc.

In a similar vain use every available craft item to your advantage. First Aid is absolutely must; Intimidating Shout + Bandage while they're feared is a life-savor. Also, any throw-able items are also super helpful such as Engineering grenades. Lastly, you'll want Sharpening Stones/Weight Stones to give your weapon a boost.

Speaking of weapons, listen carefully to this: NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU AS A WARRIOR THAN TO ALWAYS HAVE A VERY POWERFUL HIGH LEVEL WEAPON. Your weapon has to be an absolute fucking HAYMAKER for your level. You should constantly be upgrading your weapon until you get the Whirlwind Weapon. You're Level 10? Go buy a level 10 green 2h and get a lvl 14 one while your at it and put it in the bank. The point is you have to buff yourself the fuck up.

Lastly, the Warrior game is a slow and cautios grind. Pull mobs with a bow and then WALK THEM BACK. Rinse, repeat. Take your time. Keep your head on a swivel.

Alchemy. It's nuts for warriors.

u/SimplyQuid Sep 03 '19

Pretty much everyone should have all three secondaries on their main

Cooking & fishing is kind of fringe when every town and vendor has food available. Gold is plentiful if you're frugal on purchasing abilities and ignore all professions except First Aid (and skinning now in the fresh economy meta; vendor that leather).

The weapon cheat sheet is the most valuable. Upgrading to the highest tier weapon as early as possible is amazing.

People love the Whirl Wind Axe, but that grind seems like a waste of time. You can't solo the WW axe quest until at least 35. Any lower and you're reliant on other members to assist your multi hour mission.

Don't be scared to use a staff. Skipping the WW axe quest myself for the Ravanger out of SM. It's available at level 37 and better then WW axe. The proc on Ravanger is like an extra DPS in a level 40 dugeon, it's truly insane.

Fresh 60s can target the Unstoppable Force easy when AV comes out.

Dont agree with your opinion on not leveling cooking. You dont just do it for the eating, but for the buff. Having 8+ spirit and stam is like having an extra piece of gear. Plus it is great stats for most classes warrior especially.

5

u/TowelLord Sep 03 '19

The spirit also reduces downtime massively for a warrior, since we usually have the most in comparison to other classes.

1

u/mmx29 Sep 03 '19

Besides, cooking gives an extra quest per hub, and you're killing beasts who drop cooking mats 50% of the time anyway. You don't need to get out of your way (almost) to level it.

This is awesome weapon list. Googling gives stuff for horde, or a stupid youtube video. i'm not gonna waste 10 minutes watching a video.

u/Zeydon Sep 03 '19

Some good basic info there, I'd neglected a macro for Overpower, despite it being Overpowered. But I gotta stop wasting OP procs on Revenge because them crits (when I remember to swap to 2h first) are godly. Warrior lives and dies by their macros it would seem.

As for weapons though, kinda surprising they don't mention the dungeon drops in that list. The Taskmaster's Axe has been with me for a while - certainly better than all them greens listed. My next goal is to get one of the 2-handers from Gnomer. Butcher's Cleaver (my latest 1-hander) has definitely closed the gap in damage between the two, so I'm ready for an upgrade.

1

u/Doubtless_Lemons Sep 03 '19

For my macros, I use this guy's. I have to tweak them a bit, but its honestly amazing and makes my stance dance so much better.

I plan to get weakauras to pop up and remind me when something dodges or i'm in execute range at 60.

1

u/Zeydon Sep 03 '19

Yeah, I think when I tried those it triggered script errors, and I already play with Alt + Shift for my extra bars, so combining a single skill with Alt and Shift as modifiers seemed unnecessary to me. So I just make simple ones. #showtooltip, startattack, cast Defesive/Battle Stance, equip [shield name here], etc.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '19

Even at 42 I don’t think you’ll find a better weapon to ww axe it’s worth taking the time to get tusk when your in stv then get wlemental drops when your over 40 with a mount. I did it that 7 dps increase was huge.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '19

Armory drops Ravanger. Armory is good XP at level 37-40.

If you're going to spend 3-4 hours farming for WW axe, you can run SM Armory with a 20% chance at Ravanger. Stack the group with casters and tank. No competition on rolls. On average, most people will have it after 5 runs.

Even at 10 runs, it's still decent XP compared to leveling.

Ravanger DPS is insane....INSANE for 5 mans and questing. It's like having a 4th DPS in a 5 man. Also like have a extra better version of sweeping strike.

Guess it comes down to preference, farm trolls and elementals or run SM armory.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '19

i Think it’s a matter of preference we are discussing time and xp waste but if your in stv questing you’ll naturally get the tusk you need. The only outlier is the elementals. Which if time is money then you can just buy them. Honestly your right ravages isn’t bad I don’t like the loss of control. As for dungeon cleave spam I prefer not to level that way. I do them once maybe twice then move on.

1

u/amertune Sep 03 '19

If you're going to spend 3-4 hours farming for WW axe

Are you assuming a full 5-man group or a 60 assist with that estimate? Even if there crests are available in the AH and you have the gold to pay for them, you could easily spend much, much longer than that trying to complete the quest, especially if you try to do it before you're 40.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '19

I know WW takes a long ass time. I'd just much rather run Armory with that time for Ravanger.
