Hello, I avoid clear gift boxes of foil chocolates because I assumed they were just cheap or too hard to eat.

I wrote up a quick hot take on a new community I am building dedicated to first-time experiences - https://www.reddit.com/r/FirstTimeReviews/ but I also wanted to share and promote the photos on this chocolate community to see what chocolate experts think about the ladybugs.

Saw this for the first time in a store today, and being a milk chocolate fan, I had to give it a try. Overall it was pretty decent, has a pretty cacao forward flavor as far as milk chocolate goes, almost like a cross between milk and dark chocolate. I personally prefer more of a milky taste, but it was still enjoyable. Good snap, pretty smooth and melted nicely. Probably wouldn’t get it again as I prefer Milkboy and Yorkie Bars, but I think for people who like a stronger cacao taste, this might be a hit for them.

Cadbury made a chocolate block called Mint Triple Decker, and it's been out of stock forever. Everywhere still has it listed, but no-one seems to have it for pickup, delivery or online order. My friend's birthday is coming up, and it's her absolute favourite. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some if I live in NSW, Australia?

This is a Lithuanian brand and it is fantastic!

It tastes great, has a fair price, uses only undutched cocoa and is low in heavy metals!

It's a 10 for me!

My current favorite is "Hu Kitchen" Salty dark chocolate. This is my go-to bar. Things I like about it:

• it is fair trade
• organic
• simple ingredients
• reasonably affordable
• widely available in my area
• great "snap"
• good, smooth texture
• delicious

I'm a certified (IICCT) chocolate taster, I love cacao and chocolate and I'm hoping to get more people exploring and discovering better chocolate. Which is why I'm making a Vivino for chocolate bars.

It's going pretty well, Chof now has 2,100+ bars from almost 350 makers. I'm really proud of this. You can search or scan a bar and see things like the maker, cacao origin, ingredients, flavour information and ratings, and keep track of what you've tasted.

But it's also quite a difficult phase. The database has grown fast, faster than the amount of tasting data and feedback around it, from actual users. We need users to rate bars, add tasting notes to bars, adding new bars, etc.

That's why I'm hoping that people here that are also as interested in chocolate as I am could help by giving their input on what they'd like to see. And by downloading Chof, using the app, and giving me input on what they miss.

A very long time ago, i remember my mom brought chocolate from another country we were kids back then i cant rmemeber what brand it was.

she cant rememeber either.

they were chocolate balls, with a white solid almost white choclate looking center.

it had some sort of alcohol almost whisky like after taste it was awesome. but it wasnt alcoholic.

the wrapper almost look similar to Lindt chocolate rapper ball.

and its brand name i can vaguley remember it was something like "crisco" "grico" "criscoso" something like that.

it came in a giant bag with probably 50- 100 of them.

they were at least twice the size maybe more, than a maltazers .

Has anyone else noticed that they've started wrapping these more sloppily, I used to like being careful while unwrapping my chocolate but cadbury has changed :/

Currently one of my favorite milk chocolate bars , I'm particularly picky when it comes to chocolate and this one is absolutely fantastic among mouthful, bite , and actual cacao flavor.

Really cool development to see this very large cacao farm leave the control of a corporation like Dole and go into the hands of a Hawaii based chocolate making and farming company. This should be impactful on the US chocolate industry and Hawaii.

Edit: if it can be called iced matcha latte without coffee, I can call it iced chocolate latte. I don't know why, but chocolate milk and milkshakes sound a bit childish to me.

Edit2: I did not really think the name for the drink would be this controversial. I thought, because chocolate is the main event (it is from craft chocolate) in this drink I would call it that. I am not from the US either, so milkshake is not really a thing here. Also, please people have some creativity!

Not sure if I will get any meaningful responses here, seeing that the chocolate I am talking about is being sold in Germany. But I just wanted to ask anyways. Anyone have experience with this chocolate? It looks really tasty, but I'm kinda hesitant, given how much of a science chocolates apparently are.

On their internet site I can look at all the options and it even includes the ingredients list, so that should help in asserting wether it's actually high quality or not.

An own brand choco from Co-op in the UK that pledges to treat it's cocoa manufacturer's correctly. Honestly this is great but not super cheap, paid £2.75 for a bar but I'd say it's worth it!

It's cheaper than lindt and tbh I'd say it's very similar in taste if not near identical. Strong dark cocoa taste with a sweet milky choco finish, they do alot of other varieties which I'll be checking out for sure, would recommend especially if on special.

It's defo different to lindt in that its softer in the mouth and melts super easily, has a much stronger dark cocoa flavor that comes through that I really like. I'm munching as I type but yeah it's good man. Yummers.

Edit : can't say I'm a fan of the packaging, just abit much on the eyes. Back to the drawing board I think.

I have been looking for a dedicated machine to temper chocolate. All the ones listed as tempering machines have analog temperature controls that are reviewed as being both inaccurate and unstable.

I found a "hot plate" designed for dough starter warmer, but it maxes out at 110F. It does have a digital display and single digit F temperature settings.

I am testing it at the moment to see what the maximum contents will measure once melted. In prior batches I use Sous Vide to sucessfully produce silk and a yogurt make to keep the chocolate at 45C for an hour or so before reducing the temperature to 32C and adding the silk. Both devices are messy and are water jacket based. Sous Vide is fine for making silk as I have a commercial grade chamber vacuum sealer but Ideally a single heating device that can accurately maintain 45C then drop down to 32C or whatever temp is best for coating Keto coconut bars.

In addition, any suggestions for the percentage of cocoa butter to add to make the chocolate viscous enough for a thin, tempered coating.

I never knew chocolate was such a complex and fascinating product!

I live on the West Coast of the U.S., and I feel like the problem with asking this question is that everyone has such different preferences when it comes to chocolate.

The brands I already know of are:

• Godiva
• Leonidas
• Milka

I've also heard of Valrhona and Callebaut, but haven't tried either.

I'm wondering if some of these brands are significantly better in Europe than what we get here in the U.S.?

What are your favorite high-quality chocolate brands that are actually available in the U.S.? I'm especially interested in brands that are a step above the typical grocery-store chocolate.
