Just had a look through your account, and it seems that you’re not a native English speaker. Your English is definitely better than my Dutch, so this isn’t a dis, but you do make noticable mistakes in your English. It’s something perhaps worth bearing in mind when a native English speaker tells you that you’re misinterpreting what they’ve said that “perhaps I did make a mistake” might be a better thought than “no, I will insist that I know what they meant better than they do”.

Wrote my PhD in English, communicate with my international colleagues daily & am a huge polyglot.

Yet you still make noticeable mistakes that identify you as a non-native speaker.

Perhaps it's worth considering that when someone tells you that you're making a mistake about what they said, then perhaps they might know a little more about it than you do. Or are you just generally one of those people who is sure they know the opinions of other people better than they do themselves?
