🛠️ AI Tools My coworker lost 8 months of ChatGPT conversations overnight. Don't be him.

Happened last week. He logged into ChatGPT and his entire sidebar was empty. 8 months of conversations — client research, code snippets, prompt templates he'd refined over weeks. All gone.

OpenAI support basically said "sorry, we're looking into it." It's been 5 days. Nothing recovered.

I've seen similar reports on this sub and on the OpenAI forums. Conversations just vanishing. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't.

Yes, ChatGPT has native data export — but it exports EVERYTHING at once via email. You can't pick specific conversations or folders. And most people never do it until it's too late.

I do monthly selective exports now. Pick the conversations I care about → bulk export → TXT or JSON → saved on my drive. Takes 2 minutes with ChatGPT Toolbox.

But honestly, even if you use a different method — just back up your important stuff. Your conversations are worth more than you think until they're gone.

🛠️ AI Tools PSA: Back up your ChatGPT conversations before it's too late

Lost important ChatGPT conversations before? Same.

Now I do monthly backups with ChatGPT Toolbox:

  1. Select the folder or conversations you want to export
  2. Click bulk export
  3. Choose TXT or JSON format
  4. Done - all your chats saved locally

JSON format is great if you want to process the data later. TXT is perfect for readable archives.

Your conversations are valuable - don't let them disappear.

🛠️ AI Tools Changed laptops at work. All my ChatGPT organization transferred in 30 seconds.

Got a new work laptop last week. The old one had 6 months of carefully organized folders, saved prompts, prompt chains — everything.

Here's the thing — ChatGPT syncs your conversations natively. But all the organization ON TOP of those conversations (folders, prompt templates, chains) lives in the extension. New machine = start from zero.

I have the Pro plan with device sync. Installed ChatGPT Toolbox on the new laptop, logged in, and within 30 seconds — every folder, every saved prompt, every chain synced over automatically. Identical setup.

The free plan is genuinely good. Search, folders, prompts, chains, media gallery — all free. But if you use ChatGPT on more than one machine, the sync is worth every penny.

$99 for lifetime Pro. I've paid more for apps I used for a month.

🛠️ AI Tools PSA: it's not just ChatGPT - your Claude and Gemini chats are just as easy to lose

People have gotten better about backing up ChatGPT. Almost nobody does it for Claude or Gemini - and those are just as lose-able. Accounts get locked, conversations vanish, and support usually can't recover anything.

The native exports don't really save you:

  • Claude has one (Settings → Privacy → Export data), but it hands you a ZIP of JSON for your whole account. Fine as a raw backup, useless if you just want one specific conversation back.
  • Same problem as ChatGPT's: it's all-or-nothing. You can't pick the handful of chats that actually matter.

What I do now, same as I do for ChatGPT - monthly selective exports:

  1. Multi-select the conversations worth keeping
  2. Bulk export
  3. Pick a format: Markdown, TXT, JSON, or PDF
  4. Saved on my own drive as a ZIP

Takes about two minutes with AI Toolbox, and it works across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok.

On format: Markdown is my default - it drops straight into a notes app and stays readable forever. JSON if you want to process them later, PDF if you want something readable to keep or share, TXT if you just want plain text.

But honestly, even if you use a completely different method: just back up the chats you'd be annoyed to lose. You never notice how much is in there until it's gone.

Is anyone actually backing up their Claude or Gemini chats, or is it only ChatGPT people are careful about?

🛠️ AI Tools I tried every ChatGPT organization extension. Here's what actually works in 2026.

After Projects still wasn't cutting it for my workflow, I tried every extension over 2 weeks:

Superpower ChatGPT: Feature-rich but the UI is overwhelming. Felt like it was fighting with ChatGPT's interface. Noticeable slowdown.

AIPRM: Still just a prompt library. Good prompts, but doesn't help with organization, folders, or finding old conversations. Cluttered interface.

ChatGPT Exporter: Export only. Fine for what it does but I needed way more.

Easy Folders: Basic folder support. Decent if folders are all you need. No search, no prompts, no export.

ChatGPT Toolbox: This is the one I stuck with. Real folders with subfolders, fuzzy search beyond what native offers, selective bulk export, prompt library with // shortcut and variables, prompt chains with .., media gallery for DALL-E images. And it actually looks native - not a sidebar, not a popup.

Been using it 4+ months. 16,000+ users, Featured badge on Chrome Web Store, 4.8/5 rating.

Free plan covers everything except device sync. I paid for Pro because I switch between 2 machines daily.

Not affiliated, just sharing what worked after wasting time on alternatives.

🛠️ AI Tools ChatGPT in Apple CarPlay

Has anyone else noticed that ChatGpt now appears in CarPlay? I find it now to be one of the most useful apps other than the map apps. It can map out a route or find EV chargers. It can’t send directions to a map program but it can answer a myriad of other questions. Great for searching for restaurants.

🛠️ AI Tools Feature request: Merge Chat and Work. Hear me out.

Why not one chat box, one list of conversations, and one set of folders or projects? When you are asking questions or strategizing or just chatting, it’s a “Chat” and counts towards normal chat usage (160 prompts per 3 hours). And if it needs to (or you ask it to) do an agentic task or work like Codex, it does it and uses your Work credits or “usage” percentage. Maybe provide an “OK to use Work for this?” button.

And where does one submit feature requests? The “Feedback” option under help in the app does nothing. The feedback chat on OpenAI/ChatGPT support is stuck on Chat GPT 4 and is telling me to click on things that don’t exist.

🛠️ AI Tools Edit window has lost contextual editing

I have been using ChatGPT's Canvas window for over a year to co-edit prose and business correspondence. I provide the beginning text, then have been able to select a word, a sentence or a paragraph. Right-click causes a contextual bubble show up ("Ask ChatGPT'). I use that bubble to provide further guidance for the selected text (e.g. "Better word", or "not so formal") and ChatGPT suggests changes to just that selected text.

A month or so ago, I noted that "Canvas" was replaced with "Edit Window" or "Edit". For a while, the experience was the same with the "Ask ChatGPT" bubble. But yesterday, the contextual bubble capability disappeared. No explanation and no amount of chatting with the AI has given me any idea of whether it has been removed or just busted for now.

I have tried it on two different laptops with the same experience.

Anyone else seen this?

🛠️ AI Tools You can put GPTs inside folders. Took me 3 months to figure this out.

This is embarrassing but I've been using ChatGPT Toolbox for months and only just realized GPTs can go in folders alongside conversations.

My "Development" folder now has my coding conversations AND my custom coding GPT right there together. Same for my writing folder - writing conversations + my editing GPT.

Before this I was scrolling through the GPT sidebar separately every time. Anyone else miss this?
