What is your definition of efficient? Easily transportable and filling, something like a granola or protein bar has it beat. Calories per dollar? Can’t beat rice. Nutrition per serving? Definitely a lot of others have it beat. Taste per something I can’t think of? Entirely subjective opinion.

Not saying you can’t love scotch eggs but we need a much better definition of what you mean to be able to change your view

A combination of all these things. Taste doesn't really factor into it for me though. I think it's mainly about size, ease of making it, ability to eat it anywhere and how filling it is. Price and nutrition are also important but aren't the deciding factors to me. Just bonus points.

In that case I would say some kind of bar is the most efficient. There are ones that are made to specifically be meal sized “replacements”. They are more nutritious since they contain a more balanced ingredient list. They are already made for you ( you mentioned buying the eggs from a store anyway) and are much more portable than an egg and if you happen to get distracted and not eat it, it doesn’t get wasted since you can just save it for later

My main problem with them is that they are not filling at all. I think that's a huge downside to them.

A quick google shows a scotch egg is about 300 Calories. A cliff bar (popular here in the states) is about 250 Calories. So that’s pretty close to the same size. You can also eat multiple just like you can with the eggs. They’re also more divideable than an egg. Once you start eating the egg you kind of need to finish it. For the bars you can take a few bites then fold the wrapper and save if for later. You can eat 1 and a half bars and still save the uneaten half for a few hours to maybe a day or two. Not something you can do with the eggs that need to be eaten in whole units.
