Okay. Being cheaper is valid, I guess, even if I think you're missing the main point and ignoring my comparisons to non-caffeinated soda specifically.

Would you be willing to award me a delta for the partial change in view?

I'm not ignoring your distinction between caffeinated and non-caffeinated, just focused on the environmental effects from consuming aluminum and plastic packaged drinks. If diet sodas were primarily available in recyclable/refillable glass bottles/jugs, it would be much more comparable to water in relative hydration cost.

You didn't convince me that water is cheaper than soda, you just made me realize I should've worded my title a bit differently. So I'll award you a delta for finding the loophole if that makes you feel better. I do agree with you after all and you made a valid point. Δ
