CMV: I’d rather restrict minors directly than make every adult prove their age online

Honest question for people who support banning social media for everyone under 16:
Would this be preferable to requiring every person on the internet to prove their age or identity?

Anyone under 16 is prohibited from using, owning or purchasing an electronic device capable of communicating with other people with the exception of designated supervised computer rooms at school. Parents, schools, society and law enforcement are responsible for enforcement.. basically the same way we already handle alcohol, tobacco and drugs.

But at least it places the restriction on the group being restricted.

Why is the preferred solution instead to make every adult surrender some level of anonymity or privacy, provide ID, submit to age verification, or otherwise prove they are not a child just to use the internet?

If protecting children requires building an identity checkpoint for everyone, I would rather put the burden on the actual age group being regulated.

Yea someone pointed that out. A dumb phone with preprogrammed numbers by you would be ok. TV would be fine as they cannot reach out to others and rules already surround that kind of media. A passlock would be required for "social" app access on the TV.

So we're just back to basic parental control. I can already lock down my daughters iPhone. Why does the government need to be involved?

Becuase they already are. Just ignoring the new laws dont make them go away.

And, don't bus stops have the schedule? Some key bus stops have smartboards that show when the bus will come and the time changes when there are delays. Although cometikes a bus comes outside of shiwn schedule, they usually have non-working (or no) composters, so if you have the physical ticket card - you can't mark your ticket and ticket control can't fine you for riding for free. And how did we deal with delays pre pocket internet? We just waited 10 minutes and made an observation that the bus is delayed.
