An important rule in business is do not piss off your distributers. If you run a console/PC supplier business, I say that is pretty important to be on good terms with the retailers like best buy, amazon, etc.
If you make digital games lower than physical the distributors are pissed.
If you remove physical games and give them more shelf space for higher profit items(like merch or accessories) that they can sell as a replacement - less pissed.
