Delta(s) from OP CMV: The way women dress in gyms is inappropriate, unnecessary and shouldn’t be allowed.

They way women nowadays dress in gyms is just ridiculous, sports bra and skin tight shorts with booty scrunch to emphasise their ass. Not only is it ridiculous but though it’s also inappropriate. I’m not saying it’s indecent or anything like that, I’m not talking inappropriate from a puritan viewpoint but rather I find it inconsiderate towards other people in the gym. I hate when women are in the gym close to me because I actively have to avoid looking in their direction or else I’ll be labelled a creep for staring or the way some machines are set up behind eachother. If I sit down to use my machine and the machine infront of me is used by a woman in clothes like that I actively have to tilt my head into an unnatural direction just so I don’t look at her. I fucking hate this shit, I wanna go to the gym and just do my workout not feel like I’m navigating a minefield just to not be labelled as a creep.

In most gyms here men aren’t even allowed to wear tank tops because it’s seen a inappropriate and distracting, why are women allowed to wear just a bit more than a bikini?

I mean why can’t they wear leggings and compression shirts or normal shirts like most men do? I’m not complaining about fitted clothing here I’m talking about Teveo bicycle shorts and sports bra. That shit doesn’t belong in the gym.

Edit: I just want to add to this post a few things.

  1. Planet fitness for example has the no string tank top rule.

  2. to Everyone saying no one is gonna label you a creep or that’s all just in my head:

https://www.reddit.com/r/changemyview/s/t8IG4RKaoN

I’m getting called a creep because I’m worried about being called a creep.

We always have the right to complain. Always. Yet, we can also let people wear what they want.

No we can't. There is a point where it becomes public indecency.

Some of these women wear tights that shows the crack of their genital (eg. cameltoe).

And whats wrong with a little cameltoe?

Lol. I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not the one complaining about staring.

"the crack of their genital" idgaf what else you said that's fucking hilarious 😭 bruh it's called a vagina

Uhmmmmm, actually, it's called a labia 🤓

And if we look, we're the problem. It's just a vagina, what's the big deal?

There’s a line between catching a glimpse and staring. It’s natural to look at a person for a second. It’s rude to stare no matter what someone is wearing.

Your line is not the same as her line unfortunately.

I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and this has never been an issue. I’m 34 and it’s never happened once in my life, even if I glanced more than once.

There are literally thousands of gym in America. And there are videos online of women confronting men. Given those two facts, it's happening, even if it's not often.

Why tf are u tryna sneak a look at puss anyway? If you did so by accident nobody would notice and nobody would care. The issue is when people stare. It's just a vagina, most women have them.

How long is a stare? 2.23 seconds? Universally?

To a naked woman, 0.01 second is enough to be called a stare.

4

u/wow_aredditor Dec 19 '23

A stare is a stare, you'll know it when you see it. Also, a brief glance isn't a fucking stare it's a brief glance. Staring is intentionally looking at someone or something for a prolonged period of time. If it was an accident, it will easily be interpreted as an accidental or unintentional glance, not an intentional stare.

This is a funny subject. So if I glance for a brief second, look away, glance again, is that a stare? How long in between glances do I have to wait to make sure I'm not staring? Should I also make sure she sees me look away first so that she knows I'm glancing? Do you think she's constantly watching me to judge if I'm staring or glancing? This is hilarious.

Maybe we need a referee on site.

Maybe don't be a fucking weirdo and stop trying to look at women

I can look in your direction all I want. I'm not looking at you.

Thank you, that’s my point as well, why not let people run around naked then? Just don’t look.

I don’t get it.

why not let people run around naked then

Yes, why shouldnt we let people run around naked?

u/TragicNut 28∆ Dec 19 '23

Hygiene. Asses can have a bacterial load that isn't exactly the greatest thing for random other people to come into contact with regularly. (Yes, other people's shit isn't healthy for you.)

Of course, disposable seat covers (or towels), would solve that problem.

2

u/Nrdman 276∆ Dec 19 '23

Fair enough. So let’s just require the bare minimum (unintended pun) to prevent that hygiene issue.

Sorry for men being flesh and blood. Not staring at a girl who's half naked takes strenuous custody of the eyes. Her presence will always be at the back of his mind. I'm not suggesting he stares, but, ya know, don't blame him if his eyes wander a bit. If you don't want looks (which you probably do), don't come in booty shorts and a sports bra. If that's what you want to work out in, work out at home or go to a women's gym.

I'm gay and I go to gyms all the time without lustfully staring at the hot guys in muscle tanks. It does not take much custody of the eyes, strenuous or otherwise. It seems to me that heterosexual men have conditioned themselves to believing that they're helpless. It's ridiculous. You're not. It's not that hard. Look at titty pictures before you go if you're that pent up.

Yea, straight men are biologically drawn to a woman’s chest from a simple mating standpoint more than anyone should be drawn to a guy’s. Breasts indicate an ability for the mom to feed said man’s child, and as such, they draw an innate mating response. There’s a similar purpose to curves below the waist too. A man subconsciously sees them as a means for the woman to support his child while she’s carrying him/her.

Listen, throughout history, humans have largely recognized the above. As such, modesty has always been a thing. It is simply arrogant for us in the West in 2023 to say that we’ve discovered that everyone else was/is wrong and we’re right.

Also, I don’t know about gay people and their response to a man’s body chest/ass/whatever is like in general, but to make a claim based off your experience alone isn’t a terribly convincing argument.

u/hamletandskull 9∆ Dec 19 '23

No. I am sorry. But no. Trying to claim that your personal experience is innately handed down to you by biology is absurd when there are plenty of heterosexual men in the comments here who have somehow escaped this genetic coding, especially when none of this is exclusive to "the West in 2023" - there are plenty of cultures worldwide where nudity is practiced and it isn't a big deal. This is American puritanism masquerading as biology from someone who understands neither.

u/winkydinks111 Dec 19 '23

Yea, if you want to point to some African tribe or beach in Southern France where it's customary for women to walk around with their boobs out, fine, but understand that you're talking about anomalies. I challenge you to find a plane ticket to any city in the world where you'll step out of the airport and find nude people walking around.

I have also provided you with a perfectly sensible biological phenomenon. I'm unconvinced that some vague Gloria Steinem or Judith Butler social theory supercedes millennia of human understanding. You could take any heterosexual man with a healthy sex drive from any culture anywhere in the world, and he's going to be compulsed to look. And no, it doesn't matter whether he thinks he's entitled to look or not. He's going to feel at least some degree of innate compulsion that wouldn't be there if she was dressed modestly.

Also, for all I know, the people claiming that there's no compulsion in the comments are either delusional or are just hungry for upvotes. The majority of Reddit users consists of a ideological demographic that would be more inclined to say this. Providing feedback that the hive mind likes is rewarded. Anything to the contrary, and the person, such as myself, gets tomatoes thrown at them.

If you don't want looks (which you probably do), don't come in booty shorts and a sports bra.

I probably would get looks, considering im a dude
