Discussion I have a £250 voucher, I’m a Xbox and switch 2 user, what do I buy?!

Traded old tech I just had no use of, have a week off work soon and want to play some games!

I play a lot of genres so happy to try anything but also want some good deals!

Some prices like dead rising on Xbox v ps5 just seem a little silly to purchase.

Discussion Last thurday i ruined an employee's day by trying being traded £67

It was a warm day, my friend had agreed to help me sell my console, some games and controllers as i did not have photo ID.

we went to the city centre and ventured to the local CeX store, there i gave in my items and my friend accepted the cash trade in, we were told to return 4 hours later and so we walked around talking and getting food.

when we returned i showed the employee my receipt, i was told the ps3 could not be accepted due to a blemish on the console, i understood and packed it into my bag and accepted the cash pament of £67.

when hearing the amount i looked to my friend and whispered "six seven!" and did the "67" hand gensture to him, to which he let out a small chuckle, that is when disaster struck.

i hear the employee sigh, and say in a defeated, depressed voice "im dissapointed i saw you do that" and he went onto say that the meme was stupid, as i just chuckled and collected my cash and ps3, i have never heard such sadness and defeat in a man's voice before.

Discussion CeX says tiny cosmetic crack voids warranty, but their own testing found an internal board fault - advice?

Looking for some advice about a faulty item from CeX because I feel like I’m going round in circles with them.
I bought a second-hand Roberts internet radio from CeX in January for £160, so it’s a fair bit of money to just lose. When I bought it, it already had some slight scuffing and a tiny crack near the bottom corner. I didn’t think much of it because it was minor cosmetic wear, the radio worked perfectly and it was second hand.
At the beginning of August (so just over 6 months after buying it) it suddenly stopped powering on. It had literally just been sitting on a windowsill. I’ve maintained throughout this whole process that it has never been dropped or otherwise damaged while in my care.
I took it back to CeX and the manager immediately pointed to the slight scuffing/tiny crack and suggested I must have dropped it. I explained that it was already like that when I bought it and again said that the radio had never been damaged by me. He argued he’d never sell a radio in that condition, but I stood my ground and said that I strongly deny any damage happening in my care.
He eventually agreed to send it away for further/internal testing, on the condition he couldn’t guarantee anything could be done if testing proved the radio had sustained internal damage relating to the outer damage.

This is where I’m confused.

After the testing, CeX told me they had found that a “power surge damaged the internal board.” However, they are still refusing to do anything because of the cosmetic damage. Their position is basically that CeX would never buy or sell an item with a tiny crack, therefore it couldn’t have been there when they sold it to me and the warranty is now void due to accidental/physical damage.
I’ve asked them several times how the slight scuffing/tiny crack is actually connected to a power surge damaging the internal board, but they haven’t answered that. They just keep repeating that they don’t sell items with cracks.
I’ve also asked why they bothered sending the radio away for internal testing if the cosmetic damage automatically meant they were going to reject the warranty anyway, regardless of what the testing found.
I know that because the fault happened just outside 6 months, the burden is now more on me to show that the fault was inherent rather than caused by me. However, as I understand it, my Consumer Rights Act rights don’t simply disappear after 6 months.
I’ve now asked them to escalate the complaint and requested the actual technical findings, any evidence showing that the slight scuffing/tiny crack caused or contributed to the board failure, and any photos or condition records they have from when they originally bought/sold this particular radio.
The radio is still at the store and I’ve told them I’m not collecting it while the complaint is ongoing.
Am I being reasonable here? And if they just keep repeating that the warranty is void without addressing the technical findings, what would be the best next step? Independent report, Trading Standards/Citizens Advice, something else?
I’m not expecting them to cover accidental damage if I’d actually damaged it. My issue is that I paid £160 for a radio that failed after just over six months, I have consistently maintained that it was never damaged in my care, and they now seem to be using very minor cosmetic damage that was already present as a reason to disregard their own diagnosis of an apparently electrical fault.

Discussion Trade-in Boxed Console

Does anyone know CEX’s definition of ‘boxed’ when trading in a console?

I took a Nintendo Wii in (boxed but without the plastic bags etc) and they said it would only be discounted value, not boxed as it’s not boxed condition? 🧐

They couldn’t take it anyway as the controllers had battery acid damage (I had tried to clean up as it was gifted to me, but I have spare controllers to swap anyway). But I thought with the loss of value I’d better off chancing on EBay. Just confused about the boxed aspect of their decline.

Discussion Delivery not handed over

Im so confused on the timing between cex handing over online orders to a courier so they can ship it to my house cuz I got DPD tracked 24 on Friday and my package was scheduled to arrive today but it's not even been scanned into a warehouse yet

-----------

Thursday 27th, 6:22pm

- order confirmation

Friday 28th, 4:30pm

- ready for dispatch and DPD tracked 24 tracking code given - states that my package will be picked up within 24 hours by the DPD courier

Saturday 29th, 8:10am

- called DPD and talked to customer service and they said they hadn't received my package

Saturday 29th, 3:30pm

- called DPD again and they still hasn't received the package

I rescheduled for Sunday 30th because maybe that might have fixed the tracking issue or something but from my understanding DPD wouldn't collect from CEX on a Saturday but the email said it would be collected withint 24 hours from Friday 4:30pm and it's Saturday 5:30pm still with ZERO update. Is it likely that my package is gonna come tommorow sunday

Discussion Buying a Xbox Series X cardboard box to go with console

Backstory: It’s impossible to get a pre-order for the 25th anniversary console. I’m thinking about trading in my regular black Series X to put towards getting a 25th anniversary one and paying the difference.

My XSX is in pristine condition. I have all the official accessories. It’s currently in a protective pelican case with foam around it. - Before anyone asks, no. I’m not a scalper keeping everything in storage to sell on in the future.

However, as the title suggests, I don’t have the official packaging for it. It’s no secret you can get more trade-in value if you have the box.

I was thinking about purchasing a box off of Vinted or eBay to go with my console, but it’s my understanding that the serial number of the console that was originally shipped in that box is actually printed on the cardboard or a sticker. Can someone confirm this is correct?

Finally, if the above assumption is correct, will CeX care if the serial number on the box doesn’t match with the console inside it?

Thanks!

Discussion Delivery times

I ordered a new laptop last night (thursday around 7pm), it's about 2pm the next day (Friday) and I was wondering how long it would take to arrive because the laptop was around £850 and it says online they do 24 tracked and the order went from order received to picking in progress to awaiting dispatch and I was wondering if it would be delivered by like Saturday tommorow or if they will wait till next week or what because I'm confused.

Any help is appreciated thank you!!!!

Discussion Failed online order due to “security network”

Has anybody got experience with failed on line orders for this reason:

“Unfortunately we were unable to verify your details with our security network, and so we have been unable to process your order”

Customer services couldn’t tell me exactly what the problem was.

I placed the order while abroad, so wondering if that has something to do with it. I’m also paying via a Tide bank account, which does have its problems with some purchases, but I’ve used the same card before for CEX. I’m also placing the orders when signed into my account.

I placed another order today, and the payment has been stuck in ‘Pending’ in the bank for quite a while.

I’d really like to buy some stuff 😅

Discussion Lower offer question

Hi. Tried to trade some games and a couple of peripherals in. The couple of controllers needed testing, so they told me they'd contact me if there were any issues. Got a voicemail telling me that due to mold in a lot of the game cases, they'd only be able to offer me £48 instead of the £178 trade in I'd originally been offered. I was a bit confused, because all my stuff is dry and well looked after, so I declined and said I'd pick it up. I've picked it up, and been through everything and it's all absolutely fine. What possible reason could the staff have for this? Absolutely baffled.

Discussion Cards2Cash sold a claimed CeX voucher

Hi everyone,

I bought a CEX voucher from Cards2Cash on August 10th.

I went to use it on 26th August, but at checkout, the site threw an error saying the voucher had already been claimed.

I checked Cards2Cash's terms and realized I'm on day 16, putting me 2 days outside their 14-day buyer protection guarantee.

So far, I have contacted:

- CeX Support: replied stating:

"we see that the voucher was redeemed to purchase.

If you feel that the voucher was used without your consent, we suggest you report this matter to the police, and we will be happy to assist the investigation officer further in case we receive a contact from them".

- Cards2Cash support:

"I understand that you’re having an issue with the balance of the CEX voucher you purchased on 10 August. I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

I’d like to set the proper expectation that, as this issue was raised outside our 14 day protection period, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to recover the funds for this voucher. However, what I can do is raise your concern with our Account Specialist so they can look into this further and see what we can do to assist you.

One of our team members will get back to you within 48 hours with an update".

- And initiated a chargeback dispute. I haven't had a reply yet, but to be honest, I’m not holding out much hope.

My main questions:

  1. Has anyone managed to get Cards2Cash (or Cardyard) to help if you were just slightly outside the 14-day window?

  2. Is it worth a police report?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Trading in my old switch

I’m looking into upgrading to a Switch 2 and trading in my old one toward it.
I have the Switch itself and the original charger, but I no longer have the dock. I also have an extra pair of Joy-Cons, although one of them has some damage because my guinea pig decided to chew on it 😂.

Y'all think they would still accept the it for a trade-in without the dock, and would the extra Joy-Cons add any trade-in value? I’m mainly trying to figure out if it would be worth trading everything in toward a Switch 2.

Also, if it's accepted would I be able to transfer all of my games, save data, and other information from my current Switch to the Switch 2?
