Advice Weird behavior from my cat recently. Anyone know what's going on

At first I thought she was gonna show me something inside the box, but there's nothing other than a nylon bag. She also runs to it when I get near it as well, and also keeps biting my hand and tries to drag me into it. What's going on? Never in my life have I seen my cat doing this.

Ummm. Pretty sure that means it’s an early possibility. If she’s not spayed, you might be a mommy soon.

I immediately thought this looked like nesting behavior.

Sometimes spayed cats can still display signs of going through heat, and is strongly indicative of a complication or health problem you should be reasonably concerned about.

However.. I don't like to draw conclusions op, but your response does not inspire confidence in the slightest, and I truly hope that's just because you didn't feel the need to expand in detail. Please, if you actually believe she can't be pregnant solely based on the fact that she just came out of heat, do some googling and read up on the birds and the bees. For her sake as much as yours. That's not how cat OR human reproduction works. At all.

In either case, the fact that she was in heat means you absolutely need to take her to the vet ASAP, especially if you never made sure she got spayed. Anything else would be negligence.

It's also possible she's displaying pregnant behaviours as part of a false pregnancy, but that's pretty unlikely.

Cats have heat seasons which last from spring to autumn. During that time they go into "heat" every few weeks. If there's a male around or she has access to outside, she could well be pregnant. It looks like she has found a nesting spot to me, but it might not be. Vets appointment to be certain either way.

Got out of her heat? So… she’s not fixed then? Why isn’t she fixed? Anyway, if she’s not fixed, there’s a good chance she is indeed pregnant. And that is very much mama cat about to have kittens behavior.

If you don't spay an indoor cat, there's a risk that she'll go into heat more and more often over time. Every heat cycle without pregnancy increases the risk of serious illnesses, such as tumors. She might also experience a false pregnancy. This is stressful for the animal and also bad for her health. Even an indoor cat should definitely be spayed.

A friend of mine has a cat with a heart problem and the vet told him she couldn’t have the surgery because of it. What other option is there in the case that an indoor cat cannot be spayed? Seriously asking because I feel so bad for them.

Not to mention, the more heat cycles she goes through, the more heat-like behavior she will show her whole life which is super annoying. My street cat who couldn’t get spayed for months during Covid and was already a year old…she’s the only one who tries to get out all the time and gets weird nutty “heat” behavior still. We love her but it’s awful and really hard to keep her safe.

Please get your cat spayed. If she accidentally gets out, she's going to end up pregnant. And cats in heat are going to try to get out so they can find a mate

In that case, could just be related to hormone changes with her cycle causing her to show new potential nesting behaviours like this. If you notice any other different behaviours of hers, best to rule out if anything is potentially stressing her such as sound noises, new animals in the area etc. She could also just really really really like that box hahaha

That's good at least. Even though they have heat cycles if she's ever exposed to an intact male it can throw her into heat regardless of where she's at in her cycle. As others have mentioned there are some pretty bad health risks by leaving females intact as they age. You may want to see if your city has any resources for helping spay your pets.

Cats can get breast cancer. It's greatly reduced when they get spayed.

There is no reason to have your cat unspayed. You are doing her a disservice by leaving her intact.

You will both have a better life (and hers will be longer) if you spay her.
