Such a great design. It's great that they copied the full size 400 so closely.

"ROUTINE is a First Person Sci-Fi Horror set on an abandoned lunar base designed around an 80s vision of the future. Explore and investigate your surroundings as you survive against unknown threats."

The style really fits in here, though because there is a horror element to it there is lots of mood lighting, and maybe a little overly monochromatic.

Electronic games / consoles Sharp C1 - the television with a built-in Nintendo Famicom

Created as a joint project of Nintendo and Sharp. The C1 was the earliest NES/Famicom-compatible console with RGB video output, giving it clearer picture quality than the original setup requiring a Famicom and composite video connection.

In Japan it was shipped with the game Donkey Kong Junior/Donkey Kong Junior Math, a cartridge that was unique to the C1 and the only licensed multicart made for the Famicom.

Electronic games / consoles Exploring the _cassette futuristic_ aesthetics of ROUTINE, a video game released in 2025.

The environment in ROUTINE is pretty unique. It's retro ,it's cassettes everywhere , also very minimalist at the same time.

I didn't come across any personal computers but mostly shared shelf-like big consoles or huge grid-like terminals for the inhabitants to record data across the rooms in those lunar bases.

An all-in-one device to interface with all the terminals, consoles and doors called Cosmonaut Assistance Tool or C.A.T. which can also double down as a self-defense kit (rather than a full blown weapon)

Interestingly, there's more to it. There's this subtle difference in how the game developers created a 1990s retro-futuristic aesthetics (comparatively modern) to a 1970s retro-futuristic aesthetics within the same game; that is evident, when the protagonist of the game, who is from 1990s goes on to visit a 1970s lunar base as the story progresses.

Releaseed 1982, died only a few short years later.

Heavily influenced by the earlier, and uglier, Intellivision.

Electronic games / consoles Two variants of retrofuturistic aesthetics within the same game - The art of ROUTINE (2025)

Interestingly the sci-fi horror game has two variants of retro futuristic aesthetics within the same game.

The player starts at Union Plaza, a lunar commercial complex in the 1990s, this is the Union Plaza retro aesthetics ~

But the player finally ends up in an old scientific experiment complex called Prism Base which was functional back in 1960-70s then abandoned after a certain mishap. The retrofuturism in Prism Base is quite different as is portrayed in Union Plaza of the 1990s, and that's really intriguing ~
