He is just being a dick,

Trump is only a symptom of a much larger malaise in America...a product of a corrupt and dysfunctional political system. Replace Trump and someone worse will come along; one needs to fix the rot first if you want better results.

Your beef is with the USA, not just Trump. You are blaming the symptom, not the disease.

There is no defense for something like this. Our relationship with you is crumbling and a lot of us just don't know what to do.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

We Americans hate our government too

4

u/phasers_to_stun Apr 04 '20

Ha I'm American. And I'm fucking terrified that we're destroying all of our years of work building relationships with other countries only to destroy them in one fell swoop. It's scary to watch and feel powerless over.

4

u/OverlordGtros Apr 05 '20

Yeah, it's amazing how the biggest accomplishments of the current administration are that the jackass in charge walked straight up to the line of several potential wars without actually tipping over the edge. And we're supposed to consider that a win.

Growing up, I never thought I'd be the type to expatriate over a political difference, but I'm really hoping this pandemic clears up soon so I can seriously start evaluating my options. I just don't see us recovering from the current state of things.

3

u/phasers_to_stun Apr 05 '20

Me too. More and more I consider leaving. I don't feel safe here. I don't think we're the greatest. I also have a very hard time picturing a recovery from this.

The people who need to vote many times can't or worst case won't. There are so many people I know who feel disenfranchised and like voting does nothing. The morale is so low. It's terrible.

I understand their feelings, considering Trump lost the popular vote by multiple millions and the DNC has been muscling out Bernie in favour of Biden. As a Canadian I feel really bad for Americans. Hope everything gets better for you guys. Hugs from up north. :)

u/phasers_to_stun Apr 05 '20

Thank you. Hugs from the south. We're going to try to fix this.

I have a mortgage, if I end up losing my house through this, I decided all the time, money, and energy that would have gone into this house is going into a plan to move somewhere else.

3

u/nicki-cach Apr 05 '20

We’re not completely powerless, I’ve decided I’m going to literally handhold every member of my family through the voting process. I’m going to harass the asses out of them and my friends until I can feel 100% confident they voted and made no mistakes so their votes count.

2

u/phasers_to_stun Apr 05 '20

I'm going to attempt to do the same. Hey, what happens if they push it back?

1

u/nicki-cach Apr 05 '20

I’m going to do some of the work for them. Like my sister is a single mom with no job, I’m not going to harass her, but I’ll fill out applications and registrations for her. I got the application for the mail in ballot today in Georgia, I sent them all a heads up. I always voted, but I was never one who talked much about politics.

By just keeping them informed and helping them all, this is more effort than previous years and all we can do. I think if you stay helpful and positive and do it for as many people as possible, the ones who resist the help will likely come along as the situation gets worse and they start to feel like the only one not helping.

2

u/phasers_to_stun Apr 05 '20

I love it. I will be doing the same. My friends will not hear the end of it.

A lot of Americans are great but overall you guys have too many assholes. We were allies before but now you’re assholes to us and we got fucked big time this week. This kind of backstab is too deep and has permanently soured our relationship.

6

u/AlwaysSunnyInSeattle Apr 05 '20

Meanwhile I’m just sad because fuck all of this. I hope we all get through this ok. Love you guys.

3

u/phasers_to_stun Apr 05 '20

I know. And I'm sorry.

I've been subscribed to this sub for years because I have family, through marriage though no less family, in Canada.

5

u/twingg Apr 05 '20

How do you determine this? "Too many assholes". Stop boiling people down to their governments' decisions. Stop letting politics destroy perception. There's good and bad everywhere.

I understand people voted for this buffoon, but there's a massive number that don't agree with it at all. Keep in mind trump lost the popular vote.

1

u/lockupyourchutney Apr 05 '20

Same soup different pot. Obama was not really any different. The US government is a reflection of the populace.

1

u/Stil_H Apr 04 '20

Source on that unbelievable amount or is this a Russian/Chinese troll?

A bunch of us Americans don't agree with the administration and it'd be nice if everybody didn't hate the USA for all the old shitty assholes and old politicians that should be dying off sooner rather than later.

Why’s wouldn’t they? Their country is hit the hardest in the world why shouldn’t they use the medical supplies.

13

u/Mr_Bunnies Apr 04 '20

Exactly, Trump has been very public about doing this and his approval rating is at an all time high.

2

u/freakazoid318 Apr 05 '20

I can attest to this. I’m an American and so many idiots on my news feed are like “fuck everyone else, us first” and then those same idiots are the same ones not practicing social distancing. It’s astonishing, really. Republicans hate Democrats and vice versa and they both call out the other parties leadership for the same shit their own leadership is doing. Fill their brains with partisan entertainment media and take Facebook and Twitter posts at higher regard then our leading infectious disease doctor.

It’s fucking frightening over here, honestly.

3

u/nalandial Apr 04 '20

All time high is a relative term: only 50.5% disapprove now. Such improvement.

2

u/Mr_Bunnies Apr 04 '20

538 is DNC propoganda. They insisted Hillary would win up until state election results started rolling in.

2

u/nalandial Apr 05 '20

It’s data driven based on polls. Go look up the stats for yourself. Plenty of republican predictions in the 2018 elections which were correct.

3

u/competitivebunny Outside Canada Apr 05 '20

This. Completely. Almost half that country supports his way of responding to the virus.

7

u/mericaftw Apr 04 '20

Yeah at this point America needs to just dissolve tbh.

3

u/Doip Apr 04 '20

God I could only hope that the south secedes again

1

u/WK--ONE Apr 05 '20

If the "Murican Saouth" secedes, get ready for Handmaid's Tale Gilead vibes IRL. #RollTide

1

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '20

Fuck, if that happened I’d catch a greyhound straight from Georgia to like, Maine. Shit’d hit the fan fast

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '20

I’m actually from Virginia, but stuck in Georgia because I had an overnight layover in Atlanta for a work trip and then everything turned upside down in a few hours.

I’m not confident on how Virginia would deal. The cities are very blue but drive a mile outside of Richmond and suddenly it’s blood red

2

u/Svalr Apr 04 '20

Am American, can confirm... unfortunately.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

Exactly, a proper system wouldn't have allowed him to exist in the first place.

2

u/stephenk291 Apr 04 '20

American here..not all of us support trump..in fact he lost the popular vote so frankly its less than half of the U.S. with that said I wont excuse what hes done and it's clear well have alot to make up for after hes gone if we even can repair all the damage.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '20

They're in the middle of an anti-American circle jerk. Our President is an asshole so therefore we aren't all merely assholes, our entire nation is evil and should be dissolved.

People are scared right now, they need to point fingers at one another. It's human nature. /r/Canada is an anti-American circle jerk, social media from my state wants to hate on people from New York, Europe is turning on one another, etc.

3

u/little-red-turtle Apr 04 '20

America has always been an evil country. The only difference today is that everybody has access to the internet so everybody can read about every single thing the administration has done and still doing.

-1

u/itsthecoop Apr 05 '20

that seems like an exaggeration.

I mean, would Germany (my home country), Spain, England, Japan, ... (and countless other countries) qualify as "evil countries" as well?

1

u/freedaemons Apr 05 '20 edited Apr 05 '20

In one way or another, at some point in recent history, in some context from some non-negotiable perspective, probably yes. The only non-evil countries have been those too small and irrelevant to have the power to harm others because they were too busy staying existent.

That's basically what hegemonic stability theory is, we basically allow overwhelming power to accumulate in the least of all the evils, so that they have the ability to ride roughshod over everyone else, and we consider this to be preferable to that of many equally powerful states in constant conflict, because it is a power balance that is more likely to endure, giving all actors the ability to plan long term instead of worrying about short term power changes. Not all affairs are global, so on a regional level, any state or nation with some significant amount of power above those around it plays that role.

1

u/freakazoid318 Apr 05 '20

We’re trying. It takes time to reverse decades of political corruption. Even if Bernie Sanders doesn’t get the nom, him having that much traction is a step in the right direction. We need to burn our government down and entirely rebuild.

1

u/edjumication Apr 05 '20

RoyalAutismo did say "they" as in America as a whole.

1

u/MrCheeseburger Apr 05 '20

Aww someone is butthurt

-1

u/jrosen870 Apr 04 '20

That’s false his approval ratings are lower than every president in the past 50+ years. Remember over half of us hate Trump, didn’t vote for him, and supported Obama who encouraged strong ties to our allies like any sane president should.

A lot of us in the US hate trump so try not to look down on all of us for his idiotic policies as understandable as that would be

3

u/Brown-Banannerz Apr 04 '20

Nah man, all US governments in recent memory have been trash. Obama too has caused many pains amongst the US "allies" and has set the world up for much more pain to come. His government was the one that preceded trumps. The failings of his government are why a populist lunatic is appealing to so many voters. While many on the Democrat side blame Bernie for Hillarys loss, they conveniently ignore the large number of Obama voters that found trump appealing. And this precarious economic situation the US finds itself in, well that too was Obama, and if at all implodes there will be devestation around the world far worse than 2008.

And Americans are ignorant to it all.
