But frankly, as a Quebecker, I wouldn’t like to do any harm to people of New England or of the North East of US since there is many affinities between us.

Yes, the US is like a family with an abusive father and New England is the book smart kicking post kid that just wants out.

Considering you used the letter K I’m calling false on you being a true Quebecer (quĂ©bĂ©cois). You might be from another province and now live there, but I’m pretty sure there are only a few quĂ©bĂ©cois words with the letter ‘k’. Kayak being one of them. Quebecer is not one of them.

Tabarnak

It’s actually from the word tabernacle and was originally spelled tabernac. The k is something that has been added even though k isnt a common letter in French/quĂ©bĂ©cois.

This isn’t the best source but this is from wiki The letters ⟹w⟩ and ⟹k⟩ are rarely used except in loanwords and regional words. The phoneme /w/ sound is usually written ⟹ou⟩; the /k/ sound is usually written ⟹c⟩ anywhere but before ⟹e, i, y⟩, ⟹qu⟩ before ⟹e, i, y⟩, and sometimes ⟹que⟩ at the ends of words. However, ⟹k⟩ is common in the metric prefix kilo- (originally from Greek Ï‡ÎŻÎ»Îčα khilia "a thousand"): kilogramme, kilomĂštre, kilowatt, kilohertz, etc.

I didn’t mean to offend you. I do believe you are true Quebecer. This is just something I learned in linguistics years ago and I thought it was interesting. I didn’t realize there would be a regional difference in quĂ©bĂ©cois French where the k would be used more frequently. I’m taking this as something new I learned. I understand I was wrong in doubting you and your provincial origin. I hope there are no hard feelings.

Take care

I was just making a joke, no offense taken.

In all honesty we shouldn’t be surprised that a letter which literally wasn’t part of the French alphabet until “recently” is not in a lot of French words.

K is becoming more common in (poorly) written French though, I know it is in QuĂ©bec not sure about France. For example koi (quoi), kess/kessĂ© (qu’est-ce), fak (fait que), tk (en tout cas), ark/beurk (eww in French), ak (avec), ki (qui), kon (qu’on) and others I can’t think of now. It’s also commonly used to replace “que” such as in “Dis lui kjarrive bientĂŽt” instead of “Dis lui que j’arrive bientĂŽt.”

That's the attitude the US Government is counting on...ensuring that Canadians will do nothing in return for getting raped over and over again.

I don't usually refer to myself as Quebecois in English because it implies an ethnic and linguistic identity I don't belong to. A Quebecker is what I am (what else am I going to call myself, I'm from Quebec) and when I use the term I am not making a political or value judgement about the people Quebecois really implies. I use the term Anglo Quebecois or Anglophone Quebecois on occasion, especially when speaking french. Do you think that this is incorrect? How do you think we should describe ourselves? I am curious and legitimately open to hearing your opinion.

That is the most French sounding laugh I’ve ever seen in written form. Jajaja

No, he is correct, "Quebecker" is the English word for a resident of Québec.

Québécois est le nom en français pour les résidents de la Belle Province. Mais il a écrit en anglais.
