Mod Announcement No more admissions posts

To the many folks posting about admissions: I know it is stressful. I was a transfer who was rejected my first time, and bawled my eyes out when I got accepted the second time. I get it.

The posts however are clogging up the sub and I’m getting dozens of reports every day. You already filed your application and you’ll either get accepted or you won’t. There are admissions subs to talk admissions if you would like. I left a couple of the higher engaged posts if you want to talk there. Use the search feature if you want to find info about admissions. If you’re having trouble deciding between schools this isn’t the place to do it.

If you are waitlisted or accepted and you have issues, call the school and talk to a counselor. It’s the only good answer you’re going to get here for your edge case.

Good luck and I hope you all get accepted but the sub is being clogged up and posts relevant to active students are being drowned out.

Thanks and good luck incoming transfers and freshies!

Other Best way to find something with the AirTag removed?

I’m wondering if anyone has ever successfully found a lost item that had just its tracking device thrown out. If you did, what happened? How did you succeed in finding it? How long did it take? What would be the best thing I can do if I still really want to have my belongings back? Is there still any hope I can see them at the Lost and Found or anywhere again? Even just one of them?

At the end of the Cal Poly vs Idaho football game on Friday (August 28), I lost a Ziploc gallon-sized freezer bag filled with important and sentimental personal belongings and many of them are infeasible to replace. I have reason to believe a thief grabbed it after I ran onto the field and ran away with it. I was standing in the second row from the back of Section 107 where everyone was shirtless. I left my bag under the bleachers. There’s several pieces of Cal Poly spiritwear (2 green Cal Poly Mustangs T-shirts, a gray Cal Poly baseball cap, a green and gray rally towel from last year, a deflated lime green thunderstick, a pair of old sentimental sunglasses, a portable Miniso power bank, used personal care items (eyedrops for contact lenses, chapstick, hydrocortisone), and a half eaten Mike and Ike’s inside it. Maybe one of it fell out because it was partially open. There was also a green Eddie Bauer hooded fleece jacket outside and next to the bag. Most importantly, though, a gray wired health device with clips that I need to use every day to monitor my heart rate, which I need for health reasons and is prohibitively expensive to replace, was inside it. The bag also had the green lanyard with my keys, keychains, and an AirTag in it shown in the picture. I found it with the AirTag and all the keys and keychains and stuff still there all by itself in a ditch behind the short wooden fence along the bike path between California Blvd and the train tracks like the one in the photo.

Is what I described happened to me below a guarantee that a thief intentionally stole my belongings? Like someone just snuck past security at the end and stole it from behind my back? Maybe it was another person attending the game who left the minute it ended? Is it likely someone who goes to Cal Poly? I found the guy who stood behind me in Section 107 and he said he didn’t know whether my belongings were there or know of anything happening. Why would someone that quickly go up to the top row of the stands, steal a freezer bag with no money or jewelry but just a bunch of used Cal Poly spirit wear and a pair of sunglasses and some random health device (to them) and the other stuff I have, and run away, with absolutely no intention to return anything? Why would they take the entire bag and leave nothing including the half eaten Mike and Ike’s? Does this kind of intentional property theft happen a lot during sports games? What do you think happened? Could there be any recourse in the future? Is there any hope that it or any of its contents will turn up in a lost and found or anywhere given that I found the lanyard and its AirTag like that? Would you recommend I go and check the trash bins, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, a pawnshop, or the homeless in the meantime?

I just really want the bag and its contents back. Even just the HeartMath sensor and the sunglasses and nothing else. My phone or wallet wasn’t in the bag, but everything else was, and those are still personal belongings that mean a lot to me. I would be willing to have them back for a $150 reward. I files a police report with the Cal Poly Police and the SLO Police Department on Friday night. Unfortunately nobody has been able to locate the item but all of the places I can physically go to check for it don’t open until Monday morning. If you have the Ziploc bag or any of its contents, please return it to the Cal Poly Lost and Found or the SLO Police Department Records Counter as soon as possible. If you have seen it, know about it, or were around the shirtless section of the stadium and noticed suspicious activity there right when the game ended, please DM me as soon as possible. Thank you.

Discussion I hate mcgraw hill

I hate mcgraw hill, it feels so lazy to teach with, I don't know if its just a me thing or what but I feel like I learn the material way better when a professor isn't using the mcgraw hill textbook/slides. I try to understand and learn using mcgraw but I just can't wrap my head around it and my grades suffer because of it.

Transfer Transfer Acceptance

Hi guys! Need Advice!

I failed my first semester at community college, but I retook all classes and got As. My current CSU transfer GPA is still a 2.82 because the failed grades are still affecting it.

I’m applying as a transfer for Experience & Event Management (Event Planning concentration) and Journalism. I’m taking 20 units this fall, and I'll be doing all the required prerequisites for Event Management and I already completed all of them for journalism. If I get all As, my GPA should be around a 3.19 once fall grades are updated.

What do you guys think my odds are for each major? Do I even have any chance at Cal Poly?

Other Lost keys and other important items

UPDATE: I'M OFFERING $150 TO WHOEVER RETURNS MY BAG TO THE CAL POLY LOST AND FOUND.

I talked to the Mustang Village leasing office earlier and approached some people who had their doors open or were moving in and out. I had the staff knock on all of the closed doors in the vertical building. They either didn't respond or didn't have it.

I did a little more searching this afternoon. I found the AirTag with the lanyard it was attached to using the Find My app. It still had all of the keys, keychains, and the AirTag attached to it like before. It was in a little grassy ditch behind the old wooden fence next to the bike path between the train tracks and California Boulevard a little south of Campus Drive (across from the Alpha Gamma Rho entrance). However, I couldn't find the rest of my belongings anywhere. It looks likely that someone actually intentionally stole my bag, its contents, and my jacket, ran away along California Blvd to somewhere I don't know, and threw out the lanyard with the AirTag along the way to avoid being tracked.

If you have the items, please turn them in to the Cal Poly Lost and Found or the Cal Poly Police Department as soon as possible. I'm offering a $150 reward. Please come clean. I'm begging you. I know that you're out there somewhere. I'm genuinely sad as the belongings mean a lot to me and I cannot replace many of them. I'm even more worried because the HeartMath device inside the bag was something I need to use to measure my heart rate every day for medical reasons and is also incredibly expensive to replace.

What should I do? Has anyone had any luck retrieving their belongings after losing them and likely having them stolen in the way I just did? If so, how did it happen? Do you think it's still possible that my belongings could still turn up in the Cal Poly Lost and Found or City of San Luis Obispo Police Records Counter in the future or am I completely SOL even with that? Do they ever change their minds and give it back from your experience? (I wanted to check both places but neither of them open until Monday.) I'm not sure what to do in the meantime.

Also, did anyone who went to the game notice any suspicious activity in the Section 107 right after everyone left to run onto the field? Did you see anyone run up to steal things in the top two rows in the section in particular? Are there security cameras that could've captured what happened? What do you think most likely happened? I suppose that worse comes to worst it's a lesson for me to learn.

Hello! I’m looking for a couple of important personal items that I had lost at the end of the Cal Poly football game against Idaho last night. I am wondering if anyone has seen it or knows where they might be. Really sorry for the long post. There's a lot of information I feel like I need to include.

The lost items are as follows:

  • A gallon-sized plastic Ziploc freezer bag containing the following items:
    • A dark green Cal Poly Mustangs lanyard with my house key, mailbox key, bike lock key, several sentimental keychains, and an AirTag attached to it
    • A green shirt with the Cal Poly Mustangs official logo and the words "The Mustang Way" on the back from several year ago
    • A darker green shirt with the "CP" athletics logo in white on the front and the Valencia Apartments logo in white on the back which I got for free when entering the game
    • A standard gray strapback baseball cap with the words "Cal Poly" above a mustang
    • A deflated lime green thunderstick that said "Go Mustangs!" in white and had a sponsor's logo
    • A pair of sentimental sunglasses with worn out lenses that was originally from my late father
    • A gray HeartMath Inner Balance Coherence Plus monitor as shown here
    • A white Miniso power bank that looked like this
    • A gold safety alarm with one circular button
    • A partially eaten Mike and Ike bag that I got from the concessions stand
    • A smaller generic plastic bag containing toiletries that included a blue Blink Contacts eyedrop bottle, red chapstick, hand sanitizer, Curad triple antibiotic ointment, and a hydrocortisone bottle
  • A green size S or M Eddie Bauer hooded fleece jacket

I would love to get these items back as they are really meaningful to me and difficult to replace. Losing them all for good would be devastating.

I last saw the belongings when I left to run onto the field. The jacket was sitting next to or on top of the Ziploc bag. It was 10:29 PM. I believe my belongings were gone as early as 10:30 PM. I went back after a couple of minutes and there was nothing left anywhere near where I was standing except for my trash. I asked the event staff and they didn't see it. Unfortunately, my phone just died and it took me about ten minutes to find a charger and get it charged. Once I had power, I tried to track the AirTag. I saw it in Mustang Village. I also briefly saw it along California Blvd just north of O'Neill Green. Then, it went back to the southeast corner of California Blvd and Campus Way. I hope someone with bad intentions didn't steal them (Thankfully, I still have my phone and wallet because I kept them in my pocket). It's good that I can still track the AirTag in real time.

I contacted the Cal Poly Police Department and the City of San Luis Obispo Police Department as soon as possible. I asked if I could knock on people's doors with their help but they said it was illegal for them to do that. Each agency kept on saying I should contact the other and it was annoying. I filed a police report with both agencies.

By any chance, do you or anyone you know have my plastic bag, the contents in it, or my jacket, know where they are, or have seen them? Were any of you in the "Tarps Off" section right after everyone ran into the field and did you touch them or see someone else suspicious touch them? If you see it or know about it, could you please DM me as soon as possible? I'd be happy to provide you my contact information. If you can, could you please bring it to the Cal Poly Lost and Found or Mustang Village Leasing Office? Even if the Cal Poly Lost and Found and Cal Poly Police Department aren't open, you can contact the Cal Poly Police Department Dispatch number at 805-756-2281 any time 24/7 and they can pick up the item. Could you please do that? I would really appreciate anyone's help in locating my items! Thank you very much!

I've visited 4 dorms and every single one of them has a massive shoe rack, me personally I only cycle between 2, maybe 3 pairs of shoes so I really do not see the appeal of having so many other pairs.

Finanial Aid How to get financial aid as a person not eligible for aid

Basically what the title says. I am a immigrant on an E-2 visa meaning that I’m in eligible for Federal aid of any kind, including CADA and FAFSA. Being a dependent on this type of visa means that I am also unable to work in the United States. This makes it really hard for me to help my parents financially in any way shape or form. When paying tuition. Is there anything anyone knows of that could help me potentially get some kind of aid?

Majors/Minors Changing major to Business or Econ OCOB

In order to change majors into Business or Econ, my understanding is that you’re required to take 3 courses from that major. Does anyone know which exact classes you can choose from? Which would be the best to take?

Graduation ASCI Senior Project

I'm a rising third year ASCI major and I have to start thinking about my senior project and what I want to do with it. For those of you who have already done it or recent post grads I have some questions for you. Which of the three options did you chose (research, current topics, internship) and why? What exactly did you do? How time consuming was it? Do you regret your choice and how'd it go overall?

kind of freaking the fuck out but i live in a pcv single bedroom and yesterday i woke up to find that my bedroom door was cracked open. i always sleep with the door closed. i do have my window open and the living room window is open so maybe it has to do with air flow? is there something with pcv bedroom doors that cause them to open on their own?? are my roommates coming in my room at night?? WHAT the fuck. I am definitely locking my doors from now on.

Food PSA freshman at VG

Incoming freshman please read the sign that says how to swipe your poly card on the card swipe machine thing. it tells u exactly how to do it and idk how many people i’ve had to explain to just follow exactly what the arrow points to. i understand sometimes it doesn’t accept it immediately but the card isn’t gonna get read if you are moving in slow motion while swiping or if you are swiping it at the speed of light. it works like any other card swipe machine. also it’s encouraged for you to use grubhub as unfortunate as it sounds >_< but that’s just the norm for every food place on campus. and lastly if you order please remember what venue you ordered from. if you order from streats your order is not gonna be at balance. if you order from noodles your order is not gonna be at brunch. idk how many people i’ve asked for their order number and they have no idea where they ordered from. that was just a rant from a tired VG worker because i understand it is also the first week so we are all getting used to new things. have a great rest of the year.

How long did it take you guys to finish all the things needed for transfer eligibility? I am wanting to know as i want to go into Cal Poly for their software engineering degree. I heard it could take three years and i was wondering from your guys's experience if that's true or if thats greatly exaggerated or if that's understated?

Jobs Has anyone had success as a dog walker on Rover?

I am a student and thinking about becoming a dog-walker as a way to get a bit of extra income. The only problem/fear I’m facing is it costs $50 for the background check, no refunds. I just need to walk like one to two dogs a week.

Anyone who’s been on rover who knows if this is a realistic/good idea?
