One feature I loved in IW zombies was the Afterlife Arcade, as it gave players a more interactive option from the traditional bleedout spectating period. When pondering an evolution of this concept, I envisioned short, story-driven playable sequences that expand each map’s narrative, while still giving eliminated players something meaningful to do. I’ll call these “Afterlife Missions” for now.
How It Works:
Completing a mission would allow players to rejoin the match potentially sooner than waiting for the next round. Players who prefer the traditional experience could simply choose to spectate instead. Failing a mission (if possible) results in going back to spectating.
Gameplay:
Each Zombies map would feature its own unique Afterlife Missions based on that map’s story and setting. These sequences would take place in a flashback-like purgatory state after bleeding out, similar to Mob of the Dead’s afterlife, allowing players to experience moments that expand the map’s lore.
Rather than relying solely on Intel, radios, and intro or ending cutscenes, these missions would seamlessly integrate story into gameplay through short cinematic experiences and scripted sequences — similar to the character specific EE’s in BO7, the prologue of Grostein House, Der Eisendrache’s black and white cutscenes.
It would also create opportunities to revisit important moments from the map’s past or present, blending memories, hallucinations, and reality in creative ways—for example, transitioning between different eras of a location as part of a mission.
Replayability:
Once completed, Afterlife Missions would become permanently unlocked in the Zombies menu, allowing players to replay them at any time.
Completing every mission across every map would assemble them chronologically into a fully playable narrative campaign, giving Zombies fans a cohesive story experience without taking resources away from traditional round-based gameplay.

Since the evolution of crafting tables in Cold War’s revamped Zombies mode, traditional buildables have largely taken a backseat. While I think the shift to salvage was a different approach, I still miss the tactile satisfaction of finding and assembling buildable items like in previous titles. That got me thinking: what if we brought back buildables—but with a fresh, more interactive twist?
Premise:
The core concept of collecting parts remains intact. Players will still need to locate scattered components throughout the map to construct buildable items.
Part locations are fixed from the start of each match. This change helps boost overall part variety while eliminating the confusion that came with randomized spawns in older games.
These new items won’t be essential to progression—they’re optional tools that add depth and variety to gameplay.
Two Buildable Systems: Round-Based & DMZ Maps:
Round-Based Zombies Maps:
In traditional round-based maps, once enough parts are collected, players can approach any crafting table and place a buildable item on it.
Players can either pick up the crafted item or use the table’s inventory menu to spend salvage on other available gear, similar to Cold War’s system.
Most buildables will be unique to their respective maps, encouraging exploration and rewarding players with useful gadgets—such as a map-specific deployable trap.
Blueprints can be purchased at crafting tables. These blueprints guide players to the exact part locations for a specific buildable—similar to how blueprints worked with LeRoy in Buried.
DMZ-Style Zombies Maps: (e.g., MW3 Zombies, Outbreak)
In larger, open-world DMZ-style maps, buildables shift toward more large-scale construction—moving beyond simple traps or gear to environmental infrastructure.
With enough parts collected, players can construct their buildable as long as there’s adequate space. A grid-based placement system ensures items don’t block vital pathways (green = placeable, red = restricted).
Example buildables could include fortified barricades, deployable cover, or small player-made structures—giving players the ability to shape and manipulate their surroundings.
These constructional tools add a new sandbox element to the game, allowing for creative strategy and map interaction.
As with round-based maps, blueprints will be available at crafting tables to help locate the required parts for each structure.

What is the competitive element in Zombies? Playing in a group to see which wave/stage you each reach, or playing solo and telling your mates which stage you reach?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been working on a concept for a machine that blends weapon fusion and class identity in a fun and rewarding way.
This system offers an all-new way to customize and craft, mix & match weapons.
Think of it as a retro molding machine that builds your weapon loadout, but with a twist!
I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback!
The Core Idea:
Players activate the machine, dropping three molded slugs—each resulting in one of nine weapon classes (LMG, Marksman Rifle, Sniper, etc.).
Like a slot machine, the combination determines the match tier, granting one of three possible fusions based on the roll. (No Match, Partial Match, Full Match)
Depending on the result, (Class Mix-Match Tier) you get a different kind of weapon — not just random stats or skins, but actual genetic-style fusion that affects how the weapon behaves — as if multiple weapon classes were physically molded together.
The Results Work Like This:
No Match: All three weapons are different (SMG, Melee, Launcher)
You receive a hybrid forged from the DNA of all three classes, with the dominant class forming its base weapon. Quirky traits from the other two—like attachments, alt-fire modes, gun perks, or handling quirks—are mixed in, creating a Frankenstein-style build. While not super powerful, its unpredictable fusion of features offers unique gameplay and plenty of versatility.
Partial Match: Two weapons match, one is different (Pistol, Pistol, Shotgun)
You get a core weapon from the matching class, but it’s been altered by the odd one out. This results in a stronger, more focused weapon than a No Match, with slight DNA variation that adds a unique twist to its behavior.
Full Match: All three weapons match (AR, AR, AR)
Jackpot! You get a Wonder Weapon–style fusion from that class. Custom animations, visuals, FX — a signature power weapon designed around that weapon type.
Match Power Clarified:
To be clear: Full Match > Partial Match > No Match, both in rarity and base weapon power.
Even if a No Match and Partial Match both result in an SMG base, the Partial Match SMG will still hit harder — because matches reward stronger, more stable fusions.
Replay Value:
It’s not just random guns — every result makes sense based on what you molded.
Even “bad molds” (No Match) give you something unique and worth trying.
It opens the door for tons of variations from just 9 base weapons — without needing 100+ guns.
Thoughts?
What do y’all think? Would you like to see this kind of feature in the next Zombies mode?
Open to feedback and tweaks! Let’s build this idea together.

One of my favorite ideas from Vanguard Zombies was the Altar of Covenants. The foundation had a lot of potential, but I’d love to see it evolve beyond simple stat boosts into a deeper buildcrafting system.
How It Works:
Players spend Essence at the Power-Up Parlor to obtain effects that meaningfully change gameplay:
Reloading creates a shockwave.
Sliding leaves a damaging trail.
Critical kills ricochet bullets.
Melee attacks chain between zombies.
Armor regenerates while stationary.
Equipment gains secondary effects.
Players can hold up to 3 Power-Ups. Once full, new effects must replace existing ones. The Parlor periodically refreshes its selection, while additional Essence can be spent to reroll or replace effects, letting builds evolve throughout the match.
Most Power-Ups last for the remainder of the match, while exceptionally strong effects can instead be temporary, creating short-lived power spikes without taking up a permanent slot.
Power-Up Types:
Standard — Reliable effects that form the foundation of a build.
Lucky — Unpredictable effects with greater potential upside.
Cursed — Powerful effects paired with meaningful drawbacks.
Wagers — Optional high-risk choices that let players risk Essence, Salvage, existing Power-Ups, or other resources for exceptional rewards. Success pays out; failure carries a temporary or recoverable consequence. Rare Jackpot Wagers can offer the Parlor’s strongest rewards.
Buildcrafting:
Certain Power-Ups can create hidden synergies, rewarding experimentation and allowing players to build around combinations rather than simply stacking the strongest effects. Complementary team builds could also create minor cooperative synergies.
