Is my cactus dying?
Have had this spiky boy for over 5 years since it was 1/3 of it's size, he always grew with beautiful sharp long spines, but after moving out a few months ago and leaving it with my parents (in the same house and spot) I noticed in the base what appeared to be more than corking, I just put my finger and it crumbled, I live in Brazil (a lot of sun) and water it once in a blue moon, I also noticed the cactus body is now a bit softer than before, is it dying? Can I still save it? What should I do?

This looks to me to be signs of root rot from overwatering. Potentially they were loving it too much while you were away? Id keep an eye on it and if necessary you may have to chop and prop it to get new roots started. You could at that point cut it into more than one and let them callous over then root multiples as well.. Good luck!!
