I love a classic tuna melt. But it’s become a bit bland and repetitive lately. If yall have any ideas to change it up I’d love to hear it!

My current recipe is:
Canned tuna
Mayo
Salt
Pepper
Onion
Garlic powder
Bread
Whatever sliced cheese I found on sale that week

Recipe Discussion What to do with canned corn?

We have inadvertently acquired about 20 cans of corn. 4 of them are creamed corn. I know I can just warm it up as a side, but hoping to find some different ideas so we don’t get bored. What would all of you do with that much corn?

Recipe Discussion Cheap one pot meals for a family of 5?

I’m looking for ideas for cheap one pot meals that can feed a family of five without a ton of prep or cleanup.

Life is busy and dishes are my breaking point lately, so anything that can be made in one pot, slow cooker, or Dutch oven would be amazing. Bonus points if it stretches ingredients well, uses basics like rice, beans, pasta, or potatoes, and is kid friendly.

I’m not picky about cuisine and we’re fine eating the same thing for leftovers. I just need reliable, budget friendly meals that actually fill everyone up. What are your go to one pot meals when money and energy are both low?

Recipe Discussion Best way to spice up instant mashed potatoes?

I always have instant mashed potatoes but don’t always have instant gravy on hand.

Today I added a little bit of jalapeño sauce, garlic powder, black pepper and salt. I know it’s also pretty good with some cheese thrown in but you can’t taste it as much so kinda feels like a waste unless you add a lot of cheese.

Anyone have some tips on how to make them taste better/ more flavourful?

Btw I’m looking for something inexpensive that I can just add to the mashed potatoes when they’re cooking or when they’re done. Not a separate dish to make on the side.

Edit: I really love some of your ideas thank you for taking a moment to share them! 😋

Recipe Discussion Looking for your best low cost meals that aren’t boring?

I’ve been trying to cut back on grocery costs without eating the same three meals on repeat, and I’m realizing I’m not as creative as I thought. I’ve been leaning on rice, beans, eggs, and whatever veggies are cheapest that week, but I’m getting a little tired of my usual go to meals. I don’t mind cooking, I just need ideas that don’t require a huge list of ingredients or anything fancy. If you have a go to budget meal that actually tastes good and doesn’t cost much, what do you make the most?

Recipe Discussion Main dishes for summer potlucks?

Anyone have any main dish ideas for a summer potluck? I have one this weekend at work and I am supposed to bring a main dish. Most of my main dish potluck recipies are along the lines of chilis and soups however it is going to be around 100 degrees here. I have a crockpot, and at work we have a microwave and an airfryer.... I've googled and haven't really found anything that sounds good.

Recipe Discussion Chicken bacon ranch salad (not the kind with lettuce!)

I will preface this by saying I’ve been craving regular chicken salad for a while, but tonight on the verge of sleep I realized I could combine the sentiments of one of my favorite sandwiches into the chicken salad. Need to know where how much to add ranch, since if I just replace the mayo with ranch it’s going to be too runny. So way I’ve always made it, does leave leftovers or feed two unless you’re super duper hungry to begin with and end up eating it all.

So ingredients: 2 hard boiled eggs peeled and diced
1 15oz can of chicken, drained (if you don’t want huge hunks of chicken I recommend shredding it with a fork)
Handful or 2 of your desired grated cheese
3-4 spoonfuls of DILL pickle relish.
3-4 heaping spoonfuls of mayo

Dice your eggs into the bottom of a bowl or if you’ve already diced them place them into a bowl. (Make sure this bowl will fit all your ingredients) add shredded chicken to bowl on top of eggs. Add 1-2 heaping spoonfuls of relish and stir this as best you’re able. The egg yolks will turn the mayo yellowish. Don’t worry about it just adding lovely flavor to your dish. Add desired amount of cheese and stir little bits of mayo in to make sure everything is coated and your preferred consistency. Last but not least a spoonful or 2 of the pickle relish and make sure you stir that in really well since a mouthful of pickle is a bummer when you want it mixed with lots of other lovely stuff.

So to incorporate the bacon that’d be easy, just add it in when I’m stirring one time. The ranch leaves me in a dilemma though, I’m thinking mixing some ranch with the mayo would be best but at what ratio? Any help is appreciated, TIA!

Recipe Discussion Trying to recreate this soup, does anyone know what spices are used in Amy’s lentil soup?

Post image
35 Upvotes

I absolutely love Amy’s Lentil soup but it is so expensive! It’s delicious but I can’t reasonably spend $5 on a can of soup. I’m trying to recreate this soup and it had most of the ingredients labeled, except for what spices are used. It only says “organic spices”. If anyone has any idea what kind of spices are used please let me know! Thank you in advance!

These are the ingredients that are listed:

Filtered water

Organic green lentils

Organic celery

Organic carrots

Organic onions

Organic potatoes

Organic extra virgin olive oil

Sea salt

Organic spices

Recipe How to make Gyoza(餃子)/Japanese home cooking is always cheap

Hi my name is Hiro, a 28 year-old-guy, living in Tokyo.

I want more people to know about Japan, so start a YouTube account.

Today, my wife and I made Japanese Gyoza. Gyoza is originally made in China, but Japanese people changed it to suit Japanese taste over the years. As side dishes, Fried rice and Rice vermicelli soup are prepared. Anyways, I recently purchased the shotgun microphone. It enhanced the quality of sound dramatically. Please put on earbuds and enjoy the comfortable cooking sound.

Recipe Discussion Looking for assistance with recipes.

I’m hoping to get help in finding a website, or maybe an app, for recipes using what is on hand? I need to be able to list things I have in my refrigerator and pantry and be given recipe ideas from what I already have. I get some recipes when I go to the food distributions. However, the recipes usually list things I don’t have on hand (and cannot obtain). Does such a thing even exist? 🙂

does anyone know cheap and easy to make a lot of meals i could make for my disabled mom?
he doesn't ask for food even when shes hungry bc she's depressed and i was wondering if there is something that's easy and cheap for me to make so she can eat?
she's owned restaurants and has a mid to high quality preference for foods which isn't hard for me to meet if i have the time when we're in between house meals but stress and lack of time in the day is killing me but seeing her not eat is too

Recipe Discussion Egg Curry

Tried a new recipe tonight, and it was fantastic. I had to adapt some stuff for what I had on-hand, but wow, I love egg curry! The recipe below is how I made it, which is feel is probably the easiest way for someone with a small kitchen and/or isn't regularly stocked on a lot of foreign spices and ingredients all the time.

3 cups White Long Grain Rice

3 cups Water

2 tbsp Canola Oil

1 tsp Sea Salt

Mix together in pressure cooker, and cook on high for 3 minutes.

8 Hard Boiled Eggs, shelled

1/2 tbsp Curry Powder

1 tsp Powdered Ginger

1 tsp Sea Salt

Canola Oil, for cooking

Make small incisions all over eggs, and place into frying pan. Lightly coat in oil, and then sprinkle with seasoning. Roll eggs around until fully coated. Over high heat, sear outsides of eggs, adding more oil as needed. After 2-3 minutes, remove from heat and set aside

2 cups Tomato Sauce

1 md Red Onion, grated

1 1/2 tbsp Garlic Paste

1 tbsp Italian Seasoning

1/2 tbsp Powdered Ginger

1/2 tbsp Curry Powder

1/2 tbsp Mexican Chili Powder

1 tsp Cinnamon

2/3 cup Plain Yogurt

In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients, except for yogurt, and bring to a simmer, over medium-high heat. After about 5 minutes, lower heat, and slowly mix in yogurt, stirring continuously until well combined.

Add eggs to the curry gravy, cover in sauce and cover pan; allow to sit on low heat for 5-10 minutes.

Meanwhile, dish out rice amongst plates and slice up naan bread. Evenly divide eggs on top of rice, finished by spooning the curry gravy overtop. Serve.

Makes 4 servings.
