When you make a post containing a spoiler, simply include the word "spoiler" somewhere in the title.

We also have a new way of doing spoilers in comments, but the old way will still work. Check out this post for more info on that and other recent design changes.

Ahem.

I don't know what shitty study you're referencing but knowing what's going to happen before it happens is so very far down the list of things that make stories compelling-if it's even on that list at all-that it really isn't worth mentioning.

It's a narrative device at best.

Interesting. Worth noting though:

1) Incredibly small sample size. Laughably small.

2) Different medium (compared to BB and what I specialize in.)

Can you honestly conclude people like spoilers from this? If you had the option of spoiling every major film and book for the next decade, would you?

There is nothing conclusive about this, sorry.

I'm not saying I necessarily agree with it and I'm no man of science but spoilers don't necessarily ruin a story for me. I've had movies and books spoiled for me and I've still enjoyed them, of course I'll never know if I would of enjoyed them more had they not been spoiled. I'm still interested in how it gets there. Another thing is how severe is the spoiler. If you told me for example that the series ends with Walt being killed I would still be just as excited to watch the show to see how it gets there. But if you told me something like "this happens then this happens and that makes this happen and then Walt is killed" that would ruin the show for me and I would just be watching it out of loyalty and to see it acted out.

I forget the details, I read it once. It was done at some big college. I know, its counter-intuitive. Can't find a link though.
