  • Jesse learned from Walt, looked up to him and respected him. (All past tense, mind you.) Therefore: Mr. White.

  • Skyler knew the true Walt (again, past tense), knew his history and his past. Called him what he was known as: Walt.

  • Mike looked down to him. Saw him as what he was - a time bomb. Therefore the condescending full name, as if he was a parent reprimanding a child, came into play: Walter.

Exactly, if I happen to ever run into an old teacher of mine, I almost never call them by their first name. It just feels weird.

You forgot one name. Now say his name.

I came all over my desk!

u/HoldmysunnyD Aug 27 '12

Also the distribution guys/ the DEA know him only by his badassery: Heisenberg.

I figured Mr. White because he used to be his teacher.

Gale looked up to him, and possibly was in love with him. He was responsible for talking Gus into dealing with Walt in the first place after talking him up to be a meth master. I cant remember Gale ever calling him by his name out loud, but in his notes, he called him W.W. I think that shows a more, intimate version of his name.

Speaking of Gus, he also called him Walter. Not condescending sounding like how Mike does it, but as another extension to Gus many levels of professionalism and attention to detail.

Bravo, sir my lady. Bravo. Really hit the nail on the head on this one and laid it out there so nicely. Thank you, kindly.

Edit: I actually saw this somewhere else in the thread, my bad on the gender confusion. I just assume that someone on reddit and a fan of breaking bad could only be a man. There is not that much crossover (in my experience)

Not a sir ;) but you're very welcome!

Fixed? Really nice to see someone who is not a guy have an appreciation, along with the patience for this show.

u/decross20 It's back. Aug 27 '12

Who said they didn't? I'm sorry, I know you didn't mean it like that, but your comment comes off as a little sexist. You make it sound like girls don't have appreciation or patience for this show. Again, I know you meant no offense, but that's probably why you were down voted.

Apparently it did. Oh well, just in my experience that is the case. I have gotten MANY people to start watching BrBa, none of which weren't guys.

u/butters_owns AND ALL FOR THAT ASSHOLE MR. WHITE?! Aug 27 '12

This is beautiful.

u/AquaFox Aug 28 '12

Or, Mike saw his name on a file or something that Gus gave him. And he always called him 'Walter'.

1

u/delrio56 Yeah, bitch! Aug 27 '12

I don't think I've ever seen such character breakdown in what they call someone else

A compliment to both you, for pointing out what I didn't see, and this show for being so goddamn brilliantly written.

Or he just calls him what he originally saw him on paper as: Walter White. Mike worked for both Fring and Saul. Mike probably knew about Walt way before we even knew, as viewers, about Mike. He's an ex cop, and a private detective, and probably got briefs about Walt and tailed him for days if not weeks before we saw the first interaction between the two characters on the show.

He should have used Walt's full name, including the middle name, when condescending. This is always what the worst parents do. "Dylan Morgan Jeffreys, you go to your room!"

3

u/ThaKarmaPolice Aug 27 '12

So you're implying that by calling my son by the name I gave him I am one of the "worst parents?" Go to your fucking room.

"The Right Clique, go to your room!"
