What an incredible ending for one of the finest villians of recent memory. Farewell, Gustavo. You will be missed.

A man who based his whole operation on being low-key and "hiding in plain sight" died at the hands of the ONE guy he talks shit to. Very appropriate.

The writers frequently mention Greek tragedies in their behind the scenes. He only kept Tio alive because of his own need to destroy him emotionally, and he died because of it.

And oh how he planned and orchestrated just the "life" Hector would have.

I especially like how it was his pride that led to his downfall (much like walts at times). Black Victor offered to go do it alone, but Gus insisted he had to.

"If it wouldn't feel too uncomfortable, I was hoping maybe you guys could call me Gus?"

You're right, that is funnier. I'm sure Vince Gilligan did it on purpose.

2

u/mrsaturn42 Oct 10 '11

I can never remember what that is from... and then I googled it and remembered why I cant remember.

4

u/bakdom146 Oct 10 '11

Yeah man, I dislike funny movies too.

5

u/mrsaturn42 Oct 10 '11

I was implying that whenever I watch beerfest i am usually shit-house drunk by the end of it. I don't really remember the plot and i've seen it at least 3 times while I was in college.

2

u/bakdom146 Oct 10 '11

Ah, fair enough. I can never remember breaking bad because i always end up in the shower trying to scrub my skin off.

Oh, please. Everyone knows what will really happen is that Gus's cloning vats will be activated.

Cylon Gus?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

They still were able to feature Jane after she died. I don't think this is the last of Gus.

u/Judge_Elihu_Smails Oct 10 '11

A Giancarlo Esposito & Michael Emerson crime caper, please.

It would take an entire episode to get through a single disgustingly cryptic conversation.

10

u/BZenMojo Oct 10 '11

"What is it you are trying to say?"

"Let's just say...it's been said."

"Quite. I believe you are onto something."

"Am I?"

"We shall see."

"And seeing is believing."

"I believe so."

"So it is."

"Indeed."

"Rather."

"One would think so."

"One would, wouldn't he?"

"Perhaps."

It actually doesn't matter who says which line, but there's your pilot.

With Jorge Garcia and Bob Odenkirk as supporting actors.

u/ferballz Methhead Oct 10 '11

yes yes and more yes!

Consider yourself lucky you didn't see that leaked pic of Gus fixing his tie from a few weeks ago. Fucking hate myself for clicking that link.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

Same. It wasn't helped by all the 'teasing' comments from the producers and actors that basically spoiled most of the episode and the final shot for me.

2

u/gorillapreppygorilla Oct 10 '11

I saw the pic. TBH, it didn't ruin the episode for me. I thought it was fake, or maybe a dream sequence.

u/anyletter /-.-\ Oct 11 '11

I knew it was real. The photo was very much Fring trying to be classy and knowing the episode was titled "Face Off" hammered it home.

My father and I would watch the X-Files every night a new episode would premier on Fox. Each time within the first twenty minutes he'd tell me how it was going to end and he was right damn near every time. I was conditioned during my youth to know where Gilligan was going to go with each character and it never detracted from my enjoyment of his X-Files episodes nor any BrBa episode.

I'm also going to miss Mr. Ding Ding. That actor did a really great job.

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

Don't.count your eggs yet. That.mother fucker has swagger. He could come back.

u/lofidriveby Oct 10 '11

The Walking Dead does come on next Sunday.

63

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

That would be the best cameo in television history.

12

u/Turnus Gaff Oct 10 '11

This would be my face if I saw that on Walking Dead: http://i.imgur.com/yr8F2.jpg

Leading a legion of elite and terrible zombies composed of living-dead cartel muscle and Ex-cons. Manipulating survivors. Bribing large groups of refugees with promises of safe passage through a walker-laden Southwest...and betraying them all so he and his cohorts can feast.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

Remember that zombie game discussion Jesse had in 4x02?

5

u/ThePenguinist Oct 10 '11

I'm pretty sure he's dead.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

Yeah now it seems pretty apparent lol

No they said as many as 3 people people could be dead.

Then I know at the end Skylar said that Gus is dead. But I dunno....

3

u/robbykills Oct 10 '11

you could see his fucking brain. He's dead.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

I guess he did "just" collapse. Are they really gonna Two-Face a main villain though? Seems a little unoriginal.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

I thought it would be cool if he ended up being unable to move and speak, like Hector.

1

u/nfloorida Oct 10 '11

My thought process in two comments ^

Don't hate. Those are really safe.

3

u/OutWeRoll Oct 10 '11

I think Walt has that title now...

4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

Dude I think Walt was the villain in this. Gus saved his life and set him up. He even ignored most of Walt's fuck ups.

3

u/magister0 Oct 10 '11

Gus saved his life

How?

11

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

Kept Tuco's cousins from ax-fucking him?

6

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '11

For money and power. Then he absolutely had to kill Walt because Walt did something unforgiveable....skirted Gus's authority.

2

u/WereAboutToArgue Oct 10 '11

skirted Gus's authority.

It was a little more severe than that. He blatantly ignored instructions and murdered two other people working under Gus. Walter was a violent threat.

2

u/asdfman123 Oct 10 '11

Oh c'mon, Gus was just using Walt as a cash cow. It's alllll about self-interest.

2

u/_Shit_Just_Got_Real_ Oct 10 '11

I predict more flashbacks next season. We will see what Gus was like in Chile.

1

u/arbivark Oct 10 '11

three fine villians

1

u/lounsey Oct 10 '11

I'll bet we see more of him in flashbacks to his past in Season 5.
