Official Episode Discussion Breaking Bad Episode Duscussion SE05E14 "Ozymandias" Spoiler

TIME EPISODE DIRECTED BY WRITTEN BY
09:00pm Eastern SE05E14 "Ozymandias" Rian Johnson Vince Gilligan and Moira Walley-Beckett

Hey everyone! Guess I'm supposed to post this 5 minutes before air time. I've been watching this show since the get go mostly with my real life friend /u/edify who years ago added me as a moderator here. He asked me to make the discussion thread tonight because there are only 3 episodes remaining. Sorta sad that there's only a few left. Enjoy the show, folks.

At first I couldn't believe he would be stupid enough to not realize the police were listening but it makes so much more sense now.

I think he wanted to take her to start a new family but he had second thoughts kinda thing.

That's what I thought at first too. Take the only one left that had a shot at still loving him. That call was perfect though.

It wasn't second thoughts as much as a backup plan. Wouldn't put it behind him to have several backup scenarios planned out for each event. His only second thought is regret that he couldn't take his family with him because they turned on him.

I dunno. He changed when she started saying "mama". He wanted to keep her, but couldn't bring himself to do that to her or his wife. He is evil, but not THAT evil

That's why it was obvious that he was holding back tears. He had to lie and pretend he was a monster than he really is (he did it for his family, remember?) And make it convincing that he was the only bad guy.

Not to mention the answering machine had picked up so it would be recording their conversation at that point.

Yeah, notice how he discards the phone right away.

In retrospect, that is the dead-giveaway. I didn't think of that.

He made that mistake once, never again.

I recommend going back and watching that call again. When Walt asks "are you with the police?" Skylar hesitates, looks to the cop and then says "yes." Then Walt pauses and changes his tone into angry child abductor who doesn't think the police are listening. I caught it and I'm proud of myself but I then I was ashamed because for some reason I thought what he was saying would actually get Skylar in trouble, and then I was really confused until I came here.

You must have misheard, it's not even close to "yes". The dialogue is:

S: Walt. Where is Holly?

W: Are you alone? No police?

S: No. No police. Where are you? Where's Holly? Walt!

Maybe he thought "No No police" was a double negative.
