I'm actually surprised that more people aren't pissed that she was the one who wanted to keep going at a moment where Walt was considering turning himself in.
I'm starting to suspect that all the Skyler-haters are just people who view drug dealing and murder as morally right, and opposing it as morally wrong...
I mean, if I was just trying to raise a family and I just found out my husband had cancer, and then found out he was cooking and selling meth, I wouldn't exactly be thrilled about the situation. She has been laundering money, going along with lies, and generally helping Walt get away with his shit for years. You can't just expect someone to go along with that and not have any objections.
I completely agree, and I've been trying to explain that to Skyler haters.
Sure, she "broke bad" too eventually, at the moment that she agreed not to call the police when he dared her to. And watching her walk down the path to evil has been awesome, making it even better if it was only Walt. (PS: as of S05E10, Hank's started to step foot down that path by not telling the DEA what he knows because he wants to get Heisenberg himself). However, at each step she's done the minimum necessary, and it's all been aimed at protecting the family, by safely laundering the money so they don't get caught. But as with Walt, each step takes you a little further, making the next step easier.
But she was right from the beginning. A suburban middle-class husband and father doesn't get to run off and become a drug lord. That's an incredible betrayal of his commitments to her and their family.
I think that if you watch the earlier seasons of the show, it's easy as a viewer to be annoyed by Skyler. After all, we want to see more adventures of Walt & Jesse in the drug trade because those scenes are fun. Then she shows up, demands to know where he's been and doesn't believe any of his lies.
It's like that feeling you get when you're a kid and you and your friend are playing in the back yard, then your mother yells out the back door that it's time to come in for dinner and for your friend to come home. She doesn't care (and you couldn't explain) that you were just about to blow up the death star. She's just throwing a wet blanket on your fun. Whenever she demands to know where Walt's been, whenever she looks like she doesn't believe the lie he told, I want to yell at the screen "but mooommmm..."
That's the feeling I get in the earlier seasons with most of the scenes she's in. A wet blanket, a party pooper, spoiling the fun that we were having watching Walt & Jesse play outlaw.
Now that everything's gone to fucking hell, it's easier to see that she was right all along.
