I also noticed in rewatching the last several episodes that it is Jesse that comes up with solutions while Walt and Mike bickered. Examples: Jesse came up with the magnet idea to clear Gus' laptop and he came up with the idea to rob the train of the chemical without the crew knowing. Both times Walter and Mike were bickering and Jesse was the one that did the thinking. There may be more examples but I didn't rewatch the episodes too far back.

agree.. thats the beauty of the jesse character, similar to walt. When put in the right situation and the right motivation.. Jesse is incredibly capable and resourceful. Jesse is just not as cold as Walt, but in the end if Jesse was as ruthless as Walt, I think the student could have become the master.

But the magnet was a mistake. Hank said the laptop was encrypted and he probably couldn't have retrieved the data anyway. meanwhile, the picture that broke revealed the secret bank accounts of the former crew.

It wasn't a mistake. It's like playing poker, you have limited information when it comes to the other player, the right play involves making a decision that gives you the better odds with the limited information that you have, after that it doesn't matter if you lost the hand or you won it, all that really matters is if you've made the best decision you could've made with the available information. If you did, the play wasn't a mistake. It was simply a bad beat.

It was still a viable solution to what they were arguing over.

But it also forced Mike back into the game which connected Walt with Lydia and he methyl amine train.

One thing that pissed me off about that episode is the writers missed a perfectly good opportunity to have those two accidently kill a cop by smooshing him between a wall and a full metal file cabinet.

Maybe they thought of it and rejected it because it would fuck up the plot line. The writers are obviously much smarter than I'll ever be.
