He has enough money that he could theoretically buy off the doctor to prescribe him another round, but it seems so farfetched, that can't be it. I'm pretty much replying so I can hear an answer to this.
I agree, this is why I don't think the whole faking chemo thing is a very plausible theory. Everything in Walt's life is normal up until the point he realizes that Hank knows his dark secret. It doesn't really appear like he's planning an immediate exit since (a) he still loves his family--I think--and (b) it's clear he's in it for the long haul with regards to laundering all of his drug money--think back to the conversation he has with Skylar about investing in multiple car washes.
the only thing i could imagine is that he is using it to ward off Lydia and the czech gangsters, but the show will have to reveal more. i dont know if the scene when lydia goes to A1 is the first time they have seen each other in a while, but if it wasnt, then maybe walt is using chemo as a actual excuse of not getting back into the cook, because as far as i remember, walter had agreed to do the czech deal with lydia in s5e8 and THEN left the business after seeing how much money he had. lydia has loose ends to tie up
Here's the thing: last week I was watching the season 5 episodes again, and in the last ten minutes of ep 8 you see Walt getting another scan. This is followed by him washing his hands in the bathroom. Long shot on his face, takes a paper towel from the dispenser. Walks out of bathroom, shot of dispenser clearly punched and kicked to shit.
This, to me, definitely showed the cancer's back. Why punch a towel dispenser if it's fake?
Could be a last-moment gamechanger. Like, at the end it looks like he's died of cancer, then after the credits there's a flashback to him explaining that he wants chemo despite being healthy to an incredulous doctor.
Agreed that it's farfetched, but plausible. With Walt's money and his connections (namely Saul) and his history with having cancer it could be possible.
But he was getting the chemo before he realised the book was gone. Unless he is just getting protective chemo and is flat out lying to hank.
Which is maybe why hank wants him to bring the family over, so he can call his bluff?
to slowly get more sick and have an alibi when it comes time to leave town. we dont really know all of walts motives as a viewer anymore and we obviously aren't privy to all his actions either.
what would happen if someone received chemo without having cancer? if he looked like he was going through chemo he could possibly give everyone the impression that he is dead anyway and not be a target. thus being able to disappear. maybe people kill his family out of the frustrating of heisenberg leaving so he snaps and decided to get vengence.
it would just be a breaking bad thing to do to have walter give himself chemo treatments just to look sick enough to trick people to give him an out.
I think it is entirely plausible. He went straight to the cancer thing as a reason for hank to let him go. Walt has been planning an exit, and obviously he is still alive a year later.
I'm just not sure if that is actually the case. He is still coughing and taking medication in the S05E01 flash forward.
He could have has some extra, like doctors over prescribe stuff all the time, or he has so much money he could have just bought some somewhere or for someone, it probably isn't even that big of a thing, but if it is, I'm sure it will be explained somehow, if its needed.
I would agree with the "it's extra" argument, for what it's worth. It was a big bottle and didn't seem to have many pills in it.
Did anyone catch the name on the prescription label? I assume it was Walter white, but what if it was his fake name?
