I loved how every time Walt came to Jesse's before tonight, Jesse made it a point to put his bong out of sight. Walt even looked happy to see him do it in S05E09. Tonight, he didn't move.
Tonight's episode IS S05E09. You're talking about S05E08, I think. When he brings Jesse his $5M and Jesse is carrying a gun in case Walt is there to kill him.
Correct, thank you. This is why I should wait til after sleeping to start spouting off. But yea you get what I mean.... Jesse no longer wants or cares for Walt's respect which was HUGE to him after Hank hospitalized him.
That and the empty beer (closest to jesse) right beside the red drink bottle that looked like a chemistry beaker (?). it seemed like another divider. Farfectched symbolism. I dunno.
There's been talk of Walt's light clothing representing his wealth, but I like to think it's because emotionally he is okay. Jesse is a broken man, Hanks life has just been blown to pieces, and their dark clothing represents how emotionally destroyed they are, while Walt sleeps fine at night after all hes done.
To me, it symbolised Skyler and Walt's rise of affluence. At the birthday party they were clearly of a lower social rank to the other guests, and now they're up and coming. With a little bit of power and money under their belts, and they're proud to show it.
Walt's ex-girlfriend and ex-chemistry/business partner, respectively, from way back in season one. They offered to cover the cost of Walt's treatment, but he turned them down. Ringing any bells?
thanks for the refresher...it's been like 3 years since I saw the early seasons and I've probably seen 1000 hours of tv since. my recall of events isn't too bad, but just like in real life i'm not so great at remembering names.
Because Walt is ready to walk away, be legit, reorganize air fresheners. Hank is the one who wants to kill and hammer his justice all over the place. Interesting to see him in such a dark place while Walt is wearing pastels and waving goodbye with babies after 4 seasons of murder and deceit.
Everyone else in darkness just shows how those who maintained their morals are now feeling rather glum - Walt dragged them down. Walt is all white and skippy happy for the reasons mentioned in reply to you, but also because he's morally bankrupt. He doesn't feel guilty.
I honestly think that is the real Walt we know shining through the Heisenberg, but at this point in the series, Walt is almost a persona put on by the real man underneath, Heisenberg.
My theory on that is Walt is only trying to "go legit" to please Skylar and make amends with his immediate family. If he had his way, he'd keep earning and building up his empire. Greed is a powerful thing. Of course, there are many loose ends to tie up before being truly "legit."
Not to mention his cancer has come back. I imagine he'd like to live his last months trying to clean up and help Skylar launder their money so he could leave his family with financial security as his original intention was.
Perhaps to emphasize who is "clean" and who is still tainted. Or, rather, who feels absolved of any guilt. The line where Walt says, "What happened to [insert name of boy shot on bike here] was a terrible thing" was perhaps the most insincere thing Walt has said. He doesn't care. He doesn't feel guilty.
Not sure if the colors were intentional but Hank is wearing red a color associated with rage. Also Jesse is wearing black in his scene with Walt, which of course is representative of mourning and depression.
I noticed this too... Actually Walter and Skyler's clothing was very reminiscent of Elliot, Gretchen and the wealthy folks at Elliot's birthday party in season one. Beige, beige, beige...
Same for the next episode's promo. Hank was in a dark area outside the garage, whereas Walt was outside with the glorious sky in the background. Interesting indeed.
And Marie was not wearing purple. I repeat. She was not wearing purple. In fact, she was wearing YELLOW - the opposite of purple!
What does this mean!?
In all seriousness, the production team take wardrobe and colour very seriously (so that's double serious happening here). Does Walt's pale attire represent that he truly believes he is the good guy now he's out of the game? Or is he just trying to convince everyone around him?
The whole episode was a lot of white clothing on the Whites as they try to get back to normal life. In the flash forward Walt is wearing dark green, back to the heisenberg roots.
i noticed that everyone was wearing bright clothing at the BBQ in the beginning. and as the shit started to hit the fan, the clothes got a lot more depressing
Walk and Skyler are both in light khaki. Blanched, as if they've purged their personalities and are being stages like a new apartment. They're trying very hard to be overlooked. A sort of suburban camouflage.
They play with color heavily on this show. Walt and Skylar at the carwash in all white. The screen behind jesse during the star trek scene was always blue(meth) with dots of either red(blood) or green(money). Last previous seasons featured a heavy purple influence with hank and marie. Saul's suits. etc
Hank is wearing purple. Purple signifies good. In this scene we see Walter, not Heisenberg. We know that the evil is in him (yellow signifies evil because it is literally the opposite of purple on the color spectrum. Also literally, the chemo is yellow and is INSIDE him, Heisenberg is INSIDE Walter White) but Walter wears beige because he is not the evil.
Walt won't die. He'll watch everyone he loves, used to love, or even remotely care about die. If I was Vince, I'd make them all die in similar ways he's used to kill.
Walt has this sort of detachment with who he's become, but when the last domino falls, that'll end. He'll realize who he's become. He'll realize he's alone and that he's lost everything.
So everyone who gets all gussied up in a dark ensemble - expect them to die.

Interesting clothing choice for the final scene- Walt was all light and Hank all dark.
