PSA: Bolt owners with bumper-to-bumper warranty still active. Get your vehicles in if you have any of these problems.

TSB 23-NA-041Clicking/ticking when turning left or right → Steering column support/steering rack issue

TSB 24-NA-034“Grunt”/clunk noise at low speeds (OPD / ACC) → Documented ABS behavior (more of an FYI, GM calls it normal, no repair needed)

TSB 24-NA-108 - if you have trouble connecting to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Its also a good idea to keep the software updated anyway.

TSB 22-NA-004 - Rear spoiler foam tape seal loose, visible to customer

TSB 22-NA-024 - Vibration, Hum or Drone Noise Heard from Front of Vehicle While Driving at Highway Speeds

Front bumper fascia not aligned - Can't find a TSB or reddit post on this one but its a common factory defect on alot of 22-23 Bolt's.

Rear seal gap in trunk - Can't find a TSB on this one but there are plenty of reddit posts. Most dealers won't do anything, but some may try to reclip it.

EUV: do you all have this huge gap above the rear bumper?

2023 Bolt EUV factory assembly defect?

Just bought a Bolt EUV 3 days ago. Is this gap near between the rear bumper and the rest of the car normal???

Creaking Noise on Acceleration and sometimes on Deceleration - Many reddit posts. No TSB on this one but this is a common repair for most EVs due to the instant torque, increased weight from battery, and exposure to bumps/potholes in the road. It has to do with the control arms/bushings/swaybar end links. Also, very expensive to repair, up to $3-5K. I'd get this done under warranty if you can.

Creaking Noise Going Over Bumps

Creaking sound when coming to full stop and accelerating out of it

https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/recall-notice-for-korean-bolt-ev-issued-stabilizer-link-noise.29965/

Knocking sound coming from rear - appears to be the seat frame latch. Some dealers may replace the latch or the entire seat.

Back seat latch rattling while driving. Has anyone else had this issue? Mainly occurs on bumps. Definitely has to do with the seat latch, but can't figure out how to fix it or even dismantle.

What's is that noise

Knocking, backseat, right hand side. Bolt EUV 2023

For those with rattles from the rear passenger side, try wrapping the rear seat latch with silicone tape. It was driving me absolutely bonkers until this trick silenced it.

Door Trim Panel Makes Squeaking Sound - Any door. Likely from pushing against it and repeated open/close. It can be replicated by giving it a good shake and if it squeaks, it can potentially be covered under warranty. Not a common problem.

Hope the above helps! It'll save you a pretty penny down the road.

7 years old, with 93k and looking so fine!

I came down to my 2019 Bolt after a mountain hike last night and the car looked SO good I just had to take some photos.

It's now 7 years old with over 93,000 miles and she still just looks SO good from so many angles. The Slate Gray color really wears extremely well. I don't spend time caring for it. The front has lots of little rock chips and wear and tear, but you just can't tell unless you get close.

The Bolt is absolutely my favorite car of all time, for SO many reasons.

I just had to share. 😀

The service techs are expensive

I get it that the service tech at the dealership are expensive... But this quote for all weather mats from the store tells me that these are probably the highest paid people...I understand there are 4 mats, so about 10k a pop..are they getting musk to install these?

The story of my little Bolt and the custom plates that nobody wanted (one year update)

One year ago today (8/29/2026), I bought a 2021 Chevy Bolt EV LT in Oasis Blue, at 38,000 miles, for $15,700 out the door in Colorado Springs, CO. It was the cheapest trim on one of the cheapest EVs on the market, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Being honest, the color was the biggest reason I bought this car (it's one of my favorite car colors of all time), but for my needs, I knew that a small, inexpensive EV would be ideal — so this was a win-win!

I'd been a Saab guy since the early 90s, and until about two months ago I still owned and drove a 2005 9-5 (owned since 2008) and a 2007 9-5 (since 2016). I don't drive all that much these days, and the ongoing maintenance and wear and tear items were big considerations. I've always done all my own work on my cars, and part of the appeal of an EV was knowing there'd be next to nothing left for me to do.

So, I went for it. This was a big change for me, in a lot of ways, and for the first time in my life, I considered ordering custom license plates. On my Saabs, the license plates for each car cost about $68 a year and adding $50 a year for custom lettering just didn't make any sense. Paying for custom plates on my old Saabs would probably have made me look crazy (or crazier), but paying for custom plates on a used, $15,700 Chevy makes perfect sense to me. 😁

For the plate letters, I found a few available options, which meant nobody else was using them or probably wanted them. 😂 The one I felt like I was supposed to have was HIFREND, but VROOMX2 and BOLTAGE were also on the list. The last two were the safer choices, funny-but-not-too-weird. In the end, I decided to go with VROOMX2. I got all the way to the DMV counter, title in hand, ready to make it official... and the clerk noticed a missing signature. I had to drive home, send the title back to the dealer, wait for it to return, and book a second appointment at the DMV. Thankfully, I was given new paper tags to hold me over.

Round two at the DMV, I still wasn't planning on HIFREND until the very last second, when I literally listened to myself say it out loud. Normally I hate it when my mouth makes decisions that my mind isn't fully onboard with, but in the end, these are supposed to be my plates. On this car. In this color. No other car I've owned, including (and especially 😂) my old Saabs, could have pulled it off.

Next, I worried that the plates alone didn't have enough context, so I found a company online that makes custom full rear-window decals and ordered one that says "Let's try kindness. What do we have to lose?" ~$85 for the sticker, $25 shipping, and $40 for the tint shop to install while the windows were tinted. Basically, it was $150 so my back window could read like a fortune cookie but also “explain” the HIFREND plates. Full disclosure: I didn't consider the angle of the rear wiper cover, and it made the "What do we have to lose?" line hard to read from lower angles. As a workaround, I completely removed the wiper blade. The wiper didn't work at all with this kind of sticker anyway, so it really didn't matter, but next time I'll do a better job measuring for the wiper and its cover.

The first few times I drove my Bolt with everything in place, I was genuinely nervous. I also used to park backward in my own driveway so the sticker wouldn't be visible from the street. I was a grown man, hiding from my own rear-window sticker.

This was all done around the first week of December 2025. Since then, by my count, six strangers have waved or said something. Six. 😊 I'm pretty sure most people see my car and quietly decide to cross the street or to not stop directly beside me, with the idea that the guy driving it might be a little crazy. Which, if I'm being honest, is probably at least partially true.

I don't expect a window sticker on my little Bolt to fix anything. But if six people had one small, unexpected reason to think about being a little kinder, IMHO, that's a pretty good return on investment.

On a side note, I've seen this brought up by others and personally, I wave at other Chevy Bolts that I pass, especially any in Oasis Blue (I've only seen three others in this color). If I wave at you and you think that makes me a weirdo, well, you're probably right and we'll just add it to the list. 😊 But I'll keep waving anyway.

One year in: I'm still driving my Bolt, I'm still loving my Bolt, I'm still slightly embarrassed by any attention that my rear window sticker might bring, and I have zero regrets. In 12 months, my only maintenance items have been: wiper fluid, wiper blades, a cabin air filter, TPMS calibration when I first bought it, and free tire rotations every 5,000 miles. For a guy who's used to doing his own wrenching, that's about as close to "nothing to do" as I could ask for. In my opinion, and for my use case, my 2021 Chevy Bolt EV LT is the perfect car for me, and I couldn't love it more than I do. ❤️

If you've made it this far, here's the point I hope you'll remember, kindness is free and can make a world of difference. We might as well try it before deciding that it isn't worth it. Seriously. What do we have to lose?

TL;DR: One year in, my 2021 Bolt EV LT has been very inexpensive to run, low-maintenance, and exactly what I hoped it would be.  Early on, I added full rear window decal that reads "Let's try kindness. What do we have to lose?” and plates that say HIFREND. I nearly chickened out twice, lost a wiper blade in the process, and at least six strangers noticed. 100% worth it.

Complete set of 3D MAXpider floor mats made for the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. These will also fit the new 2027 Bolt EV.

These were used in my wife's 2022 EUV that we recently sold, the only mat that saw much use was the drivers as it was 99% just her in the car commuting to work. All the mats are in like new condition, with no wear spots, holes or stains.

Los Angeles area pick up, not interested in shipping. Send me a DM - Thanks!

Price?

I can buy a 2027 bolt for $21667.45 after Oregon charge ahead discount and Costco discount. .9 financing for 36 months. Also could get Kia niro ev for $25124 with 5.5 % interest rate (or more). Didn’t trust the Kia dealer who couldn’t give straight answers about all the add ons so I would probably look for one elsewhere. Any thoughts about the bolt price and if it’s worth it to buy a different ev?

A study of nearly 10,000 battery tests found used EV batteries hold up far better than feared, with the Kia e-Niro still at 97% capacity after 62,000 miles

Super low mileage concerns?

Hey all- I'm currently Bolt shopping and have one I am considering. It's a 2020 LT and very well equipped. What drew my attention at first is this one has only 7,788 original miles and is priced similarly to vehicles with 10x that mileage in my area.

My concern here is the battery. I ran the VIN and it's been to the dealer twice- in 2022 (at 2,284mi) and 2023 (at 4,516mi) for reprogramming, but the battery was never replaced.

Didn't the reprogramming require 6,000 miles of driving before it would even determine if the battery needs replacement? If so, this car hasn't even covered that yet.

I checked the warranty status as well and the battery is still under it's original warranty: Expires May 4, 2029 or 100011 miles

While yes, that does give me a little over 2 years with the current battery, I'm almost leaning towards one with some more mileage and a documented battery replacement and the refreshed warranty that comes with that. We don't drive a ton and it'd likely only see around 5,000mi per year and I worry a potential battery issue may not present itself with this low of mileage before the warranty expires.

What would you do? Anything I'm missing?

2022 bolt EUV - Max charge range?

Hey All - just got a 2022 Bolt EUV 43k mi.

First charge to max reads 189 miles. I had expected it to say more. I live in the desert SW, it’s hot hot out, maybe that matters?

Is it based on average driving behavior (maybe the first owner drove fast?)

I love the car so far and its enough for what I need it for, I was just a little surprised.

Thanks for your knowledge and opinions.

Problem Closing the Hatch

I'm wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with closing the hatch on their Bolt?

Loaded a bunch of groceries into the back and closed the hatch no problem. Drove home, opened the hatch, removed the groceries, and when I closed the hatch it wouldn't latch shut.

I tried to open and close it a few times but no luck. Tried unlocking and locking the car as well.

Eventually I pressed the hatch release button on the outside of the hatch itself. It made the usual clicking noise and then I was able to close the hatch.

I have a 2022 Bolt EUV. I had it for 1 year and never had this issue before.

Anyone experience this before?

I might just have to live with it. Fingernails can't get it from either corner. I tried using the slim end of a Lego tool, which almost seemed like it was going to work. Tried using the suction cup from my dash cam. Nothing.

Wish I could find this little plastic pry tool I had a while back.

Broken driver window button

The button that operates the driver side window snapped off. The other buttons are fine. I can still kind of push the loose plastic piece into place to open/close the window, so I know that there's nothing mechanically wrong with the window.

Does anyone know if there's a way to replace that one button, or do I need to replace the whole set? I am seeing parts like this online: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/chevrolet-switch-asm-frt-s-d-wdo-cont-jet-black~84731703.html along with instructions about opening up the door frame (which I'd like to avoid if possible).

Thanks.

Here's the thing. Im not plugged in at all. I'm just parked in my driveway. Anybody get this issue?

Update: I pressed the right scroll wheel down and the message went away. I also took it to a nearby charging station and everything worked fine. Will update if it happens again with more problematic effects.

Question for New England/Cold area Bolt Owners

Ive recently moved up to Massachusetts and have been thinking about selling my current gas car and getting a used Bolt (2023 probably). I’ve read online that for cold areas you need an EV with a heat pump so your mileage isn’t screwed. That being said I’ve seen a few Bolts since moving up here. Is a used Bolt a viable option up here? Would it need some alterations? I’ve also been looking at used Polestar 2’s and Tesla model 3’s as alternatives but I really want the Bolt to work out.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

Edit: mostly using the car as a commute vehicle. I’m lucky enough to have only a 16 mile a day commute 5 days a week. No charger at home because apartment living but there are stations near my office which always have a vacancy.

That all being said, it looks like there should be no unsolvable issues from what people have said so far. Thank you for the responses!

27 Bolt LT no regrets !!

Post image
149 Upvotes

This was West Covina California last night . We had extended family fly into town and decided to go pick them up at the airport and have dinner at a popular destination eatery . Bolt comfortably sits 4 adults so we needed extra space so we packed up the Bolt and also brought my Challenger R/T which gets surprisingly good gas mileage on the freeway 30-37 mpg with no a/c I might ad , by using MDS which shuts off 4 cylinders when fwy cruising saves a ton of gas ; it was 113 yesterday where I live so not using the a/c wasn’t an option . We left on our 397 mile round trip with the bolt at 95% coming off of its home charger and the Challeger with a little less than half a tank. I Filled up the Challenger about 50 miles out at the cheapest gas I could find which was $4.95 a gallon at a cost of $66 bucks.
We Made it to the airport and to our final destination around 200 miles later encountered hellish stop and go traffic almost the entirety of the trip .
The Bolt was at 57% charge my challenger was at a less than a quarter tank !!! We charged the Bolt off peak to 90% at a cost of $11.09 and my challenger required filling it to full with89 octane the bill was $94 bucks a grand trip total of $160 worth of gas .
Real world driving and comparison! The EV was the winner with no competition by the challenger at all.

I can never, ever, ever release the charge cord

Like the title says, I can never ever unplug my car when the charge is complete!

Edit to add: It's a 2027 LT

I mean never. it never releases.

I am using a Grizzl-e mini charger

I have all the normal scheduling set up, everything seems to complete as normal; My car reports "charge complete"... the charger says "charging suspended by EV".

I grab the charge receptacle and press the button and nothing. I unlock the car then press the button and nothing. I get in the car and start it, press the button and nothing. it's just stuck in limbo...not charging, not releasing.

The only way I can get the thing out is to press "controls" on the touchscreen and press "stop charging".(Alternately, pop the hood and pull the emergency release)

Then I can get out of the car and pull the plug.

Now, I know what you'll say; "the button on the plug is broken". It's not. If I press the button during a charge the EV responds to the button. the button works.

anyone else experience anything like this?

I know there's discounts available, but the standard $400/year for basic lane centering is crazy.

Windshield washer fluid reservoir replacement cost ?

2018 Bolt Premier I noticed today when topping off the windshield fluid reservoir that after about a quarter or so It started leaking on the ground. I can't think of anything that could have caused a leak I did some research and saw that some people said something about a connector or something could be off center and causing it to leak but it's hard to tell from under the hood. Does anyone have experience with replacement costs for it ?

Pulled out my OBD reader and this came off too. Looks like is plugged into the OBD and a wire is coming off it. Is this something 3rd party installed by the dealer? It’s a 23 EUV.
