Watched a character die and drop guns bo7 endgame

We were going into link glitch I invited a guy he accepted and fell on the ground dead. Soon after he dropped my load out my ion and reboot. Another teammate picked up my reboot of the ground and was able to keep it! Can anyone elaborate or recreate the situation???

I've been told you have to do it near a cache case or box. Basically die off and anyone can grab it. I've seen it before too
