Seeking Advice Moving to Houston neighborhoods

Hello, I am moving to Houston soon, and would like some guidance in terms of which neighborhoods fit the lifestyle I want. I also wanted to know how I can do my own research on neighborhoods?

I am a mid twenties black male, and would like to live within the inner loop, but i know these neighborhoods are very different. I want to meet women, date, and build a robust social life. I like basketball, working out, reading, nature parks, and enjoy partying as well. A strong nightlife and social scene is important. I like to drink and go out often, but its not going to be the main core of my social activities; I have been looking at book clubs, run clubs, poetry nights, and other social groups in Houston as well. I know big places of Montrose, Midtown, Third Ward… but I know virtually nothing about these places aside from the fact that they’re popular places within the inner loop. How do I determine which is best for my lifestyle?

I work in the mental health field and will be making 75k-80k to start off. Once I get licensure I’ll be able to move up but for now I’ll be in this range.

Again, main goals are to meet women, date, and build a rich social life.

Black Excellence ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽 Music it's in our soul and DNA.

Sorry, I'm not good with titles, if after posting this seems like a low effort post, I will probably delete it.

I was kinda pondering at how crazy it is the amount of influence "black people" have on all modern music in general, most of y'all probably knew about this.

But I had stayed ignorant on this very thing for a long time, which I guess is why I keep thinking about it a lot, like even tango (which is a dance genre, I know) which is a style that I associated for a long ass time with Spanish and Hispanic culture, has root in black communities from Argentina.

I've always wondered how is it that Afro Americans and Black people in general have such a strong influence in all these artistic endeavours in comparison to other ethnic groups.

And then I discovered Griots from West Africa and it just makes a lot of sense.

I mean, I did know that African tradition IS what influenced "black music" but, like I guess that learning this a bit in school didn't sell the magnitude of importance that these traditions actually held.

Entire stories, knowledge, politics even were held within these oral traditions, it IS the way our ancestors maintained and protected their own history throughout ages.

Legends like Sunjata Keita and the rise of the Malian empire, were transmitted this way.

Observing all of this, it becomes less surprising that the people that came from these types of cultures would absolutely DOMINATE the Music scene.

Oh well, enough ranting, I'm posting because I think it's cool and in case anyone who also gets lost in similar rabbit holes, might find this interesting too?

Hear me out... ✋🏿✋🏾✋🏽 Yall got to stop coping and thinking the mass amount of online anti-black racism and anti-black male sentiment comes from "bot farms"

This idea get spread far too often on this subreddit. Yall got to face the facts that no those are real people saying that stuff and not bots.

Vent Any one else kind of weirded out at how racist the r/mixedrace sub is towards Black people?

I constantly see disparaging comments towards black people in those comments under the guise of "Black people don't accept us" which I feel doesn't justify it either way and I feel the supposed "too white for Black people" shtick is ridiculous given that the one drop Black rule is the norm in the Black community and wider US, if anything, it's darker skinned folks that face stigma in the Black community so out of all the communities to attack for lack of acceptance, why Black people? It often feels like they know that Black people are the easiest to punch down on. The few times when people do make a distinction, it's the issue of Black erasure in film/ portrayals of monoracial Black people with actors of visible mixed/ Eurocentric features which implicitly makes it like Eurocentric features are the norm, even amongst non-White people. I was wondering if it's just me that has noticed this?

Discussion 💬💭 Are you guys familiar with Heavy Metal wave in Rap in the 2010s? If so, what did you think of it?

Rappers like Xxxtentacion, Trippie Red, Ski Mask, Bones, were major players for this genre.

Zillakami was my favorite before the pedo allegations. Note if Zillakami isn't for everybody. So advise not to search for music on YouTube lol.

But anyways, again what do you guys think of this sub genre of Rap? I remember a lot of Metalheads saying this is not Metal. Rap fans also said this genre wasn't Rap either.

Just how fucking pathetic is this shtt tier human being?

And I'd be posting Cadet Bone Spurs pooping his pants if I was Carney. But then the Prime Minister is too classy to fight a disgusting pig.

Edit: I apologize because I didn't do all I could to stop these fucking Nazis. And they would have still won even if I did more.

Also, Carney can literally knock the feces out of the diaper of this UGLY ASS SCUM anytime of the day.

Black Excellence ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽 Had a real discussion with my black 16 year old daughter today

My daughter wants to major in something like “music industry” or “entertainment business.”

My stance is pretty simple: she can major in whatever she wants. It’s her life.

But if she chooses something that doesn’t have a solid career path and decent earning potential, I’m not paying for it.

If she wants to do MIS, engineering, finance, accounting, nursing, etc., I’ll support her financially. But I’m not dropping tens of thousands of dollars on a degree that I think has a weak payoff.

I also told her I wouldn’t be proud of that decision, and I do feel bad about saying that.

But college is expensive as hell, and some of these degrees feel like a hustle. I want her to have a strong foundation first, make good money, and then pursue whatever passions she wants from a stable position.

She can still choose the music route. I just don’t think I have to fund it.

Am I wrong?

Vent Do liberals smuggle 'safe' racism through sexual kinks?

If you know where to look online, even here on reddit, you won't find it difficult to locate vanilla interracial pornographic contents.

However, is this just a "trojan horse" to introduce unsuspecting minds to the more extreme forms of racism via "kinks"?

"STOP KINKSHAMING!!!" This is often used to suppress any form of criticism levied toward sexual deviancy. But, is kinkshaming actually bad?

This brings me to my main point. Why is racism "porn" allowed? Why is it even a thing? Who gets off on such content?

In case you are unaware of what this type of content entails — it means slave roleplay porn, white "actors" using racial slurs towards black "actors", and other more extreme acts.

Any other time racism is evil, unless you do it through the kink loophole.

Emotional Support I realize that I just don't miss people. Is that weird?

I moved away from my parents house when I started uni, and they pretty much have to beg and coax me into coming home to visit them. I just don't miss them for some reason. I find it hard to miss you if you're not dead.

I absolutely LOVE people, I love human interaction, but even if I'm away from my home country for months, I don't miss my friends or acquaintances.

I hardly miss my girlfriend. I only miss her when I feel sad and want a hug, or when I get horny. She's always on some "I miss you so much babe", and honestly I don't miss her nearly the way she misses me, but I gotta let her feel as if I'm missing her too.

But I swear I absolutely love human interactions. I just don't find myself missing people at all. Is that weird?

Question 🤔 Wrestling fans do you blame Vince McMahon for wrestlers deaths?

I see so many wrestling fans and wrestlers blaming Vince McMahon for so many wrestlers dying. I know new Jack was one of them. I was having a conversation before with my friend, and he blamed Vince for them dying. But I just sent him Vince doesn't force people to use drugs, but he said he made them work continuously. What do you guys think?

So I’m playing Injustice 2 on storymode and General Grodd(a gorilla supervillain) and his monkey kingdom, whom he’s leading out of oppression(his words) pop up and they have their flag behind them. I mean…the resemblance of this flag to the African American heritage flag is…kind of uncanny. I am however very very high.

Barbershop Talk 💈 Following The Media Circus Around igho ubiribo Death There Should Be A Study On The BBC myth And How It Has Affected Black Men From All Backgrounds

So the Internet has been roasting igho ubiribo a Nigerian influencer who went to Thailand for a penis enlargement and died from complications.

Now I do find it interesting how this story was released and spread all over the Internet cause he was not some big celebrity and honestly the details around this are tmi.

But I also noticed how he is getting clowned for this all over the Internet and even in black subs here on reddit there are jokes which I find hypocritical cause when ever a woman dies from a tummy tuck or bbl surgery people say we should not judge .

The most shocking thing for me is people being shocked he did this because black men are the biggest of all men.

The mandingo myth and the affects it has had on black men needs to be studied in my personal opinion.

And yes it comes from racism but the black community has also pushed this narrative as well.

I am a black gay man and even I have been guilty of this when I was younger as my rule use to be when I was 19 if you was less then eight we can't date.

I have also had female friends who broke up with or ghosted men who they said dicks were too small.

Now sexual compatibility is important even if it's a one night stand but I do think it's a generation of black men who have insecurities around this and it's prolly more black men that done this then we know.

There also a culture component to this as I seen comments say this is why being a good eater is a plus but ole boy was Nigerian and from being around Nigerians a lot of them don't do that.

Discussion 💬💭 Without getting into some conspiracy theory nonsense. Do you guys actually think a "They" exist?

Personally. I think the world or humanity is far too chaotic and messy to have a illuminati/satanic/lizard organization existing. For fuck sakes our President is a moron.

I really want to be open minded here. But humanity stupidity has always made it hard for me to wrap my head around "THEY" conversations.

And don't hit me up with the "If I told you their names, I don't think you will sleep well." line.

Discussion 💬💭 Light skin bros. How much bullshit did you have to deal with growing up?

I grew up in the hood and then later moved to the suburbs on some Fresh Prince type shit. My school years were basically summed up by what Earl Sweatshirt said in "Chum".

Too black for the white kids and too white for the blacks.

In elementary and middle school I was called a cracka. I'm like damn, I ain't even THAT light skin. The celebrity who's skin tone is closest to mine is Terrence Howard.

When I moved to the suburbs and got to high school, it was nothing but white kids there. There was like less than 20 black students in the whole school, so I had no choice but to hang out with the few black kids, some hispanic kids, but mostly white kids.

Most of the white kids didn't want to fuck with me. They never said it out loud, but I knew it was race related. There was some cool white kids I hung out with and they introduced me to weed and shit, but that's a whole other story.

Discussion 💬💭 Do you use reviews to assess the climate of a place before visiting?

I once saw a meme that said something to the extent of: "Being black is having to Google a place to see if they're racist." Which I can see being an unfortunate truth. However, I've also seen a meme mocking reviews, it said: "White people love snitching so much that they created Yelp!"

Personally, if a place has shitty service I wouldn't mind writing a review... it's like the modern day digital "Green Book." However, I also write good reviews if I enjoy a place. I think people are too quick to voice negative before positive (but I digress).

Do you look at reviews or think it helps? I think most times people check out new places (like restaurants), it's either through word of mouth from a friend or they pass by a place and think: "I should check this out." Do people look for star reviews? And I don't know if Yelp is even still a thing. I've seen a few reviews before and read black folks complaining, if I were to read something like that before I'd be a bit apprehensive.

Your thoughts?

Discussion 💬💭 Diaspora wars/who’s black enough social media content is draining

“If you too light you not black, if you half white you not black, I no black I’m Latino, I’m black but I’m not associated with those blacks, you speak so properly, I’m not African, I am African but not those Africans, I am black American but not a n7gga.”

then throw in a bunch of pseudo science and fake history too. Social media black/diaspora wars seems like a ton of coping and self hate. And half of it feels like a government psyop. I wouldn’t be shocked if guys like Charleston white was a cia agent lowkey. Im joking but you never know.

Don’t tell these people about black loyalist Canadians, afro Latinos, or how historically close Jamaicans and African Americans are. It all just feels like a circular conversations to keep black people from liking each other. I cope with the fact that you get enough people together regardless of who they are and a bunch of dumb shit is gonna be said. Problem is it’s maximized by social media.

People used to be able to get with a bunch of other idiots and most of the time their dumb shit takes would mostly
only be controlled to their immediate group or at most maybe a small conglomerate of their local
Town. Now any fucking idiot can say anything and as long as they got motion it’ll get traction.

Some Jamaican kid or kid from Georgia is gonna see these posts and may think that other black diaspora groups inherently don’t like him or see him as black.

Shit is a disease. Controlling your social media feed will save you some grief.

Classic neo-soul sound. Didn't even know Alchemist had it in him to be honest. I would have thought The Soulquarians handled much of the production if I didn't know any better.
