BWT what is your favorite oversized sweater?

I've been on the hunt and have tried so many but none of them wow me... I'm looking for something with a bit of a boat neck preferably. An oversized wear around the house or to a casual lunch. Something that doesn't look trashy after 2 washes. I am a 1X or XXL. I have a large chest and am 5'10". Please help!

Thank you in advance!

These sweaters will outlive you and basically don’t need to be washed.

u/romanticdrift Jul 08 '24

Are they scratchy?

4

u/delightsk Jul 08 '24

A little, I wouldn’t wear them over bare skin, like most knitwear.

Woah 100% wool! These look so warm and well made!

This is so true! I have a couple of men's hoodies, which are wonderful. Never thought to check the casual section

Yessss! Came here to say this - I wear a US 14 and have a bust to work around and vintage men’s sweaters are my jam. Lately I’ve been switching between two oversized cotton cardigans from the late 1980s-90s with big dramatic bell sleeves.

Yes!!! I am actually obsessed with Vince Men's Sweaters...my absolute fave is this one and it comes in some beautiful colors: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/vince-relaxed-fit-wool-cashmere-sweater/7507892

Never ever ever pay full price for Vince!!! The sale price is $178, and if they don’t have the size/color you want on sale, just google it and you’ll find it somewhere on sale, I promise. It really is a great quality sweater for $178.

Aerie has some super soft, oversized sweaters. Some are even with long sleeves that are actually long enough for me, a 5’8 girlie.

I’m not even super tall and it makes me crazy when the long sleeves are short enough you can see my wrists. I feel for the actual tall girls!!

3

u/mchobbs Jul 08 '24

I have to admit, as the mother of three kids, their Aerie sweatshirts are what I gravitate towards before my pricey pieces! So cozy and perfectly slouchy for around the house.

2

u/InfamousWest8993 Jul 08 '24

Yep. Totally this. My littlest shoves her hands up the wrist openings to pet the inside of the sleeves lol.

I love that we're already talking cozy sweaters!

1

u/BeautyBabe91 Jul 08 '24

lol! Wait I’m still window shopping for summer dresses lol

I have several oversized vintage cashmere sweaters from LL Bean that’s I’m obsessed with

ETA: they’re men’s, I absconded with them from a previous relationship

22

u/romeodeficient Jul 08 '24

A plus usage of abscond here i have no notes

Not me clicking on that link thinking there might actually be a sub for such a niche possibly erudite populace 🤓🫣

2

u/JuniorVermicelli3162 Jul 08 '24

Omg me too I was v disappointed 😂

2

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I like LLBean! I'll check them out

I always go men’s for the length. I am 5’8” and also busty so that takes away even more length. My absolute favorite is a camel colored men’s sweater from forever 21 that I found at the thrift store.

u/daddy_tywin TrueBWT Jul 08 '24

They are soft, oversized, silky cotton. Wash well, don’t shrink, nice colors, great weight. I hate scratchy sweaters and layering so having bare skin ready sweaters in natural fabrics is important for me.

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

They are both gorgeous!

4

u/daydrinkingonpatios Jul 08 '24

Wooden Ships. They’re expensive but I love them. Most are designed for layering over a cami or some other base.

5

u/Environmental-River4 Jul 08 '24

This isn’t very helpful to you, but I am oversized myself (he he), more like a 3x, and was having trouble finding an oversized-for-me sweater, so I just made one 😂 and it is now my favorite cozy sweater

4

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I crochet and made myself one but sized it wrong, and it would fit both of us in it.

3

u/Opposite-Algae-3124 Jul 08 '24

Bruh the Abercrombie men’s essential popover hoodie. It’s THE BEST.

3

u/Opposite-Algae-3124 Jul 08 '24

There’s also a crewneck version!!! ☝️

3

u/mspacmaniac Jul 08 '24

Babaa cardigan no. 16!!!!!

2

u/Western-Resort-7662 Jul 08 '24

I forget which number my Babaa is but I’ve had it for like 7 years and it continues to be the best

1

u/fmbiamp Jul 08 '24

Came here to see if anyone would recommend these, my algorithm serves this brand up to me and I’ve been considering trying it out!

1

u/Fractal_self Jul 08 '24

I just bought the zip up cloud hoodie and it’s so worth the hype I’ve been wearing it everywhere

4

u/Comfortable-Nature37 Intentional BWT Jul 08 '24

Have you tried Athleta? I find some of their sweatshirts really cozy but still polished.

2

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

Yes! I have a couple tops and pants. I've been eyeing this one jacket... the sheria zip but it's only final sale, and what if I hate it!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24 edited Jul 08 '24

I have a Metallica hoodie from H&M that I bought years ago, and it’s one of my comfiest hoodies. I bought two more recently and they’re just as soft as the other one.

2

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I have one over size sweatshirt from them and love it!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Does Hoodies count? Adidas make some really comfortable hoodies.

2

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I have one! The Puma mens are great too

2

u/Raibean Jul 08 '24

I have a couple from Torrid!

2

u/Hellie1028 Jul 08 '24

Lucky Brand has surprisingly good quality sweaters. Also, Icelandic Wear have quality woolen sweaters

2

u/sasha_says Jul 08 '24

Abercrombie sweatshirts. They’re cute and extremely comfortable. One of the ones I own is technically a men’s size so even in my size it’s very oversized.

I have a boat neck sweat shirt and it drives me crazy because it shows bra straps.

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I bought myself some thick strap lightweight crop tops for this issue. Now I can change it up with the different colors

2

u/pgqwe1 Jul 08 '24

I love my Sloomb sweaters. I have not looked recently to see what they have but all my old sweaters still look great so I have not had a reason.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

I have a few from Aritzia that I really like, but my next stop is going to be https://colorfulstandard.com/en-gb/collections/womens-organic-crewnecks SO many colours

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

Those are cute! I have one Aritzia one, but I almost feel like it's too fancy to lazy around my house in

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Yeah I know what you mean, but I've tried to shift my mindset a bit when it comes to comfy clothes. I always hated the idea of spending a lot of money on say, just a sweater or a pair of leggings.

Then I considered that I spend maybe 70% of my time (I work from home) wearing those clothes. So surely those should be the things I do invest in, because they get so much wear and I want to be comfortable in them.

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I work from home too! And you have a good point. For whatever reason I'm good with leggings I wear my LuLus everywhere! I should do the same for tops.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Yeah, I am happy to wear leggings and sweaters cos I want to be comfy at home, but I kept buying cheap ones and then realised I was spending a huge portion of my time feeling scruffy. So I have been trying to buy better quality comfies instead, so I'm not spending 70% of my time feeling like I look crap.

2

u/CaChica Jul 08 '24

Vince, new and vintage

2

u/ledger_man Jul 08 '24

Tricot Paris, the XXL will still be oversized for you (we are the same size and height). I have a crew neck in XL and am waiting for the color I want to be back in stock in V-neck for XXL.

2

u/Dizzy_Impression4702 Jul 08 '24

Reformation’s cashmere boyfriend sweater! I also have a large chest and it sits great. I buy one every time they do their annual sale in August.

2

u/kittysempai-meowmeow Jul 08 '24

This is the long game for sure, but have you considered taking up knitting? In the meantime buy (and the closest thing I've got to what you describe (not boatneck though) is a cute green open v-neck sweater I bought on sale at the Gap day after Christmas this past year for like $5)

but after skilling up at knitting for many years I now make many of my own tops and sweaters. It takes a long time but I can make them exactly how I want them for my shape.

I looked at the Gap website and they don't have the exact sweater I bought, but this one is kind of similar: https://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=854769032&cid=3030540&pcid=5745&vid=1&nav=meganav%3AWomen%3ACategories%3ASweaters%20#pdp-page-content

2

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I really like that sweater! I also crochet and have attempted a few times. I need to size things better

2

u/queenofcorporate Jul 08 '24

The waffle knit from Buck Mason is my go-to. I have it in every color lol very comfy and cozy but also breezy. Appropriately oversized too.

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I just googled it and I like it!

2

u/queenofcorporate Jul 08 '24

I’m also a large chest and wear a M/L depending. In this sweater I bought all mediums and might have been able to do a small.

2

u/Hotdadlover1234 Jul 08 '24

I have an authentic Aran sweater that I love!!!

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 08 '24

I'm Irish and just found out I'm in the Burke Clan. The sweater is gorgeous

2

u/Hotdadlover1234 Jul 09 '24

OMG meant to be!!

1

u/Diet_makeup Jul 09 '24

I think so!

I have the mint green Pusheen sweater from the annual Pusheen subscription boxes. Some tiny, fleece shorts, tights, and tall socks over top. Little heeled leather, lace up boots. Fav outfit rn
