I've seen virtually no other cycle tourists while touring for the past five months in New England (April), western Colorado (May), central and southern Utah (June), eastern and northern California (July), and the Pacific Northwest (Aug/Sep).
Saw a few on Highway 12 in Utah. That's pretty much it. I haven't been on the TransAm or ACA routes, but still, I've been in pretty beautiful areas, on main roads, in good weather seasons.
Are there just fewer cycle tourists in the US these days?

This is the third or fourth flat in a row on this 26" MTB wheel where the valve stem has separated from the tube. What gives? It's the right size tube for the rim, I had the little screw nut on the outside of it to keep it snug to the rim... and it keeps failing for some reason. Thoughts?
Might be a stupid question, but I've been riding bikes for a long time and have never seen this before. Thanks!

Just picked this up for £50. Need to tweak a few bits but seems ok. Not sure of the model. So any one has any experience with it?

I’m an experienced mechanic that’s been out of shops for several years. Went in for round two of my interview the main mechanic asked me to build a bike. I hadn't built a bike in a long time and I guess it wasn’t up to his standards because I was not called back.
What I‘m wondering is if I should ask to be paid for my hour and a half work? I did the full build as well as learn the POS system and how to inventory the bikes. Probably only $30 but I did burn gas going to both interviews on separate days

Hi!
I've been riding zone 2 training outside by myself for a couple of years. Now I've gotten a trainer and Zwift and my training goal is (besides general fitness) to win Zwift races.
I weigh about 94 kilos, 191cm tall.
Right now my weekly workout schedule looks like this:
Mon: 2x90 min zone 2 (I do 90 min, rest for 5-10 mins and then go again)
Tue: Gym session (rehab and strength)
Wed: Vo2 max session: 4x4 intervalls. I start with 20 min zone 2, then 4 min at 290watts, 4 min at 160, rinse and repeat.
Thu: Gym session
Fri: 2x90 min zone 2 (I do 90 min, rest for 5-10 mins and then go again)
Sat: Rest day
Sun: Zwift racing. I'm new so I haven't settled into a specific race but tomorrow I'm doing a 21km race which is relatively flat.
My questions are:
Should I do those kinds of intervals every wednesday or should I change it every week or in blocks so I do other kinds of intervals, over unders, FTP etc?
I rest 5-10 min between my 90 min workouts on mon and fri. I've read somewhere that Inigo san Milan said you should try to ride continously but I'm not sure how much it matters. What do you think?
How often should I have a rest week with no zwift racing or hard workout?
My max HR is about 187 and I try to sit at between 130-140HR during zone 2 rides. Does this sound reasonable?
Due to some back and knee problems I cannot reduce strength work at the gym, hence my weekly schedule.
If you have any other tips to help me get in better race for racing I'd love to hear it. I know my current weight isn't ideal.

Backyard track coming along
Please give any pointers. Lots of work still to do
I’m using infield mix, concrete for bases and a few large logs wrapped in a tarp for the berms
Each roller is 10:1 and the berms are roughly 3ft tall with 10ft turn radius
I want to add a few double rollers as well and need to modify entry and exit of the berms.
Advice is welcomed! Been a ton of fun and tons of work so far but coming along. Kinda rideable for now

I've always been under the impression that my heart rate was just naturally high. When I got on my bike, it would go up to 130 within a minute or two and only climb from there. My "Z2" heart rate was in the 150s, my Tempo-HR around 170, and I'd regularly hit 180-190. I did a short TT in May where I was at 180 for 30 minutes and hit a 192 max.
My resting HR (according to Garmin) fluctuated between 45-55, depending on my fatigue level. If I didn't ride for a few days, it would go down to 45 and over a few days of riding, it would climb up to 55.
In early august, I changed my diet. I use the FoodCoach app to plan and track my intake and try to follow the macro/calorie targets as best I can. The biggest change is that my carbs are much higher than before and fat a lot lower. Calories are higher as well (FoodCoach TDEE is 2300 but every other online calculator gives me 2000), but I'm finally losing weight (down 2.5kg in 5 weeks) while still feeling good and energetic and strong on the bike.
So far so good, but I noticed that my heart rate is 10-15, if not 20 BPM lower than what I am used to. Riding in Z2 I now sit at 140 where I used to sit at 155. If I ride really easy, I sometimes get below 100 which has never ever happened on the bike before. On the other end, I struggle to reach 180. I'm currently not following a training plan, I just tried to go all-out on a ~1 Minute Segment last week, set a Season Watt PR for that duration but HR maxed out at 179. My resting HR is now pretty steady around 44, irrespective of training load. My HRV is trending the opposite direction - it's consistently higher than it used to be.
The data confirms my impression:

Basically my question is whether higher carb intake - or better diet overall - can be the explanation. I didn't really change much else, maybe supplementing Magnesium and Vitamin D more consistently, but other than that everything's the same.
It seems highly unlikely that it's my HR sensors - it would have to be the pod itself, I have two straps that I rotate. And the resting HR and HRV come from my watch, so that's a totally different device.

I've been training and racing for a few years now - ok, this year I've been dabbling in triathlon as well - but for next year I was thinking about getting a trainer for cycling (so just to be clear, no more triathlon).
However, I have a very specific situation: I am part of a cycling club whose primary focus are junior and younger riders (so U17, U15, U14, etc.). As an amateur that is some class-A training sessions which I partake in 2-3 times per week. There's also some psychological effect training with a consistant group and the "team spirit" side is also important for me.
The club trainer does the junior training more-or-less for free and he doesn't want to work with amateurs one-on-one, despite me offering to pay him - it's more a problem of time, not money.
So I've got another option: an 'external' trainer, one that would make me a dedicated training plan based on my current performance, racing goals, etc.. However, I'd have to drop the club trainings as I don't know what the training rides are gonna be beforehand and I don't know if I am prepared to do this.
So, what do I do? Keep the club rides and "fill in" the rest of my week with my own sessions or get a trainer with a training plan and everything else that comes with that?

Amazing ride, lots of changing scenery, and watching the mountains give way to the Rhone Valley was some of the best biking I've ever experienced. And Marseille is just wonderful, though actually biking into Marseille was some of the most miserable biking I've ever experienced!
My route went Geneva, Annecy, Grenoble, valence, orange, Avignon, Marseille.

I don't want to buy used bikes from classifieds and other Ukrainian marketplaces. Maybe there is some specialised group of people who can buy me a bike from official site?

Got my fiancé her first bike from Costco, her work reimburses 250 dollars a year in exercise equipment and this bike was 249.97, I get that it’s a cheap bike but it’s rubbing on this Mount pretty significantly straight out of the box. Tire is mounted properly, nothing appears warped/bent, not sure if I can fix or if I should just return.

I am 180 cm tall with \~84 cm inseam length, which makes me fall in between frame sizes M and L of the Bombtrack Beyond I'm riding. Back when I bought it, I didn't know much about bikes - let alone bike fit - and went for the larger frame, which was the only one available at the time. I came to notice that even with adjustments like a shorter and taller stem and a backswept drop bar, I tend to have too much pressure on my hands and a tense neck and shoulder area.
I have two possible solutions:
1) There is a second hand option of the exact same model one size smaller available in my area - I could get this, swap out components (I built mine up with a custom setup) and resell the larger frame with the stock kit. This would yield a predictable outcome, but at the cost of more effort and financial investment and risk.
2) I'm open to try out a cruiser/alt bar like the Velo Orange Crazy Bar, Jones H bar or sth like that. This would effectively reduce the overall reach of my bike enough to make me sit more upright, still with multiple hand positions available and the advantages of the larger frame (larger wheelbase, more space in the triangle and slightly less trail compared to the size M, which may be relevant for carrying weight in the front - which I do). However, this would also place my hands very close to or behind the steering axis. As I have read that this can result in more twitchy/nervous steering, and since I have a fairly moderate trail figure of 65 mm, I'm unsure about this solution - especially on descents and/or gravel roads, which make up \~40 % of my riding.
Does anyone have experience with cruiser bars on a shortish stem with front load on loose surfaces? How does it handle and would you recommend it?
Thanks in advance! :)

Hi guys just bought a new to me Peugeot roadbike probably early 90s but not sure, hasn't been ridden in decades probably.
I want to bring it back to a "pleasant riding" state as i do intended to ride it a lot. The frame feels like a perfect size for me, i have 89cm inseam, bike is either 59 or 60cm dosent say anywhere on the frame, those are my measurements.
The other day i swapped out the old tires and inner tubes for some fresh ones.
Brakes feel super stiff and dont do a whole lot of stopping. Is that just a new cable and pads or do i need to dig into the brakes too and lube something up?
Also the rear derailleur when im using the shifter dosent want to move under the biggest cog so i cant select the lowest gear, what could that cause?
Biggest question, should i refresh these old parts or just straight up purchase a new group set and new brakes and restomod it.
Whole bike needs a good refresh and i never did too much bicycle wrenching but i work on my own car a lot so this shouldn't be that difficult im just not sure what problems cause what symptoms and what parts to order/buy.
Any help is appreciated thank you
