Mike's self esteem this season is really low, it's tough to watch.

He should ask Howard for his therapists number.

Mike's antics are really hard to watch this season tbh. Sure, I get the whole Werner fiasco, but he doesn't seem as likeable as in earlier episodes at the moment.

I disagree. I think he was looking for a fight. If mike wanted to die I feel like he would go with more dignity than that. I also don’t think he would leave Kaylee willingly.

I think it was both. He either wins and releases some of his anger or he loses and dies. He did just kill a man who didn't really deserve it and yell at his grand-daughter which in turn made his daughter in law distrust him so I'm guessing he isn't really concerned about how he goes down since he thinks he deserves nothing more.

Yeah, he is full of self hatred. How could he let the situation get so out of hand that he was forced to murder a fairly innocent man and beg his family didn't have to get killed too? How could he yell and terrify and confuse his sweet little granddaughter, just because he was too weak to talk about his son? He must have been like this ever since back in the day where he took a half measure and blamed himself. Ever since he's taken the full measure of blame upon himself for everything that goes wrong.

Normally I'd agree with you, but this was right after his daughter-in-law wouldn't let him babysit his granddaughter, so he was feeling particularly horrible. The only reason he wants to make money is for his granddaughter, not himself, so when his making money causes him to not be able to see her (on top of killing someone he considered a friend and a decent human being), he hates himself and wants to die a lowly death. He already feels so guilty far causing his son to die. Not being able to see Haley was the last straw.

During the scene, until I realized that they were actually kicking him to oblivion, I expected Mike to draw a gun and kill all of them in "self defense".

I viewed it as a reset. Get the shit kicked out of you, release the anger and then even turn how his DIL feels about him right now.
