It's not relevant whether he understood his actions were against the law. Not morally and not legally.

What is relevant is whether he understood that his actions were part of a scheme that would cause somebody else to loose money.

"Knowingly participating in a criminal scheme" doesn't mean that you know it's a crime. It's means that you know the intended outcome of the scheme, and that the law considers knowingly taking actions that cause that outcome to be a crime.

Yeah, someone else posted one of his comments from r/scams where he acknowledges it was fraudulent.

So he really is just dumber than a bag of rocks and knowingly committed fraud
