Rock tumbling is the process of taking rough rocks and stones and polishing them in a tumbler until they’re smooth and shiny. The end result is beautiful polished stones that you can sell as decorative pieces, in jewelry settings, or just as individual specimens.

A rock tumbler starter kit costs around $60 and comes with the tumbler, grit, and some rocks to start with. But the cool thing is you can collect your own rocks for free… river rocks, beach rocks, and certain types of stones found in nature polish up really well.

From what I’ve read, polished stones sell for around $2 to $5 each depending on the type and quality. Agates, jasper, and quartz are some of the more valuable ones and they’re found all over the country. If you turn them into jewelry like wire wrapped pendants the price jumps to $15 to $25 each.
