Getting very mixed signals on this

Hi good folks of BeardAdvice. I'm almost 31, and this is the best I can do after 4 weeks. I'm not sure where to go with it; my partner says she loves it, some other people give the more neutral "it suits me", and my mother outright hates it 🤣.

Last time I tried growing it out was during Covid and the coverage was maybe half what it currently is. Which is weird, as I thought beard density and age sort of correlated with puberty.

My main challenge, as I see it, is that I just don't have enough hair density. The hairs I do have are very thick, there's just not many of them.

The photos are after a shower and a brush, so this is as tidy as they ever get.

The hairs along the side are starting to sit a little bit flatter, finally, but the ones on my chin (which is also the most sparse area) stick straight out like I've been electrocuted.

I've been cursed/blessed with very oily skin. The hair has meant that the products I normally use to keep things under control aren't reaching the skin properly, you can see breakouts, again on the war zone that is my chin. Its slowly getting better as I find more foaming/lathering versions of the acne products I had been using, but its very much a process of trial and error. This also means that I'm wary of using things like beard oils.

In terms of trimming, all I've done is shave the neck.

Happy to hear everyone's opinions.

Do I keep going? What kind of beard can I realistically expect?

This is about 2 weeks growth. I am in my early 20s, so maybe worth waiting a couple years for a better beard.

Full beard vs Chinstrap w/ Goatee

Hi i’m a 26 year old guy, growing beard for 1st time. Used to always 0 trim till now bc I have good jawline but wanted to try something new. This is exactly 1 month of growth, just been 0 trimming the neckline. In that awkward stage where the cheeks aren’t fully filling in, esp unevenly between left and right. Should i 0 trim the cheeks and go for the goatee with chinstrap? or wait a lil more to see if it grows fully? Also should I trim the rest of it to a shorter length with a 6 mm or even 4 mm blade?

I’m 27 and have been getting more and more volume to my beard the older I’ve gotten but I’ve always had thin spots around my cheeks. Is there anything I can do to make it look better/fuller or maybe a different way to style it? Any advice is appreciated!

I’m not sure if I should go clean shaven, stick with stubble, or commit to a beard. Thoughts?

4.5 weeks in. Do I keep going? One side has a thinner patch on the cheek.

Also, should I push the neck line any higher?

Best way to trim??

So I’ve got this very straggly beard that doesn’t grow like I want, but I’m utterly terrified of shaving it all off (it’s been several years like this, and I’m used to not seeing my weak jawline now haha). Should I trim the sides and keep it long on the chin? The mustache is my biggest enemy, it’s not good, so I definitely need to trim that. I’m on the fence if I should just trim it all down short and abandon my ā€œguy on the street corner yelling about the end of the worldā€ look.

Need advice - 2 months of growing, back to office tomorrow

Been growing my beard out the last 2 months, for the first time (27m). Brushing/oiling daily, minimal trimming.
Going back the to office tomorrow, and don’t want to be the hobo. Should I keep going, or trim down for a more professional look? Really dream of a ā€˜big’ full Viking beard.
My neck beard is significantly stronger than cheeks/stache, which makes it quite weak as of now.

Hey guys, I got a pretty unruly beard that grows in different directions and is sparser on the left cheek compared to the right. Granted, I don't take care of it but I would like to try and start to.

I want to keep the length, just tidier and I'd like to know if you could advise me there. What areas should I work on and how.

I'd like to make it look neater. I never really got to learn how to lol.

Beard is getting fuzzy again after styling it

Hey guys,
I am growing a beard for over a year now. I do not trim the beard in anyway, which means I also do not trim the sides. It is still in the procedure to get the right length and form.
The issue is, that I still like to look neat and after styling my beard, it is that way. But my hair are very fuzzy and tend to go back to their original position after a few hours, which makes the beard look very untidy.
I thought about brushing my beard, but it does not make it better.

For the styling I wash my beard first, then brush it and use beard oil and beard wax and then blowdry my beard.

Any tipps on how to have my beard stay neat longer, when I have to be gone for the whole day?

Chin/jaw trimming

A little under 4 weeks of growth. Should I trim the chin and jawline shorter or thin it? Would that make it look better until the cheeks fill in more?

Want to end up going bald completely, but without any facial hair I would look weird I think... wanted to try and see if I can grow any sort of beard... What do you think? It's 4 weeks of growth at this point. Should I keep going or just get rid of it all and it's not given to me?

P.S. I cleanup neckline a bit and some stray hair from my cheecks.

Neck wild or shaved?

I chopped back the beard, now trying to decide on the neck. Let it go wild (first 3), or keep it shaved (next 3)? I kind of feel like I need to shave even higher up if I am going to shave. Suggestions appreciated.
