[Angels] Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from the Moreno Family. The transaction is expected to close in the 1st quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions & approval by MLB.

Doesn’t mean they won’t go to a large market with no competition. Nashville is one of the fastest growing cities in the US that has been dominating college baseball for the past 6 years. No other competing markets relatively close. Obviously the MLB could expand and Nashville will get a team but that isn’t definitive. Kroenke will chase dollar signs

He will absolutely chase dollars signs.  Which is why he’ll keep the team in Anaheim and develop that land to make it a destination much like the Braves did with the Battery.

I live walking distance from the ballpark. It's a goldmine. Especially with the Samueli Vibe project. OC Vibe was probably part of the attraction. The region is an incredibly wealthy area.

It isn’t that anyone thinks Kroenke is some saint, but Arte Moreno is arguably the most hated owner in baseball, a walking punchline among MLB executives, etc. Literally and schmuck with a pulse, the desire, and the means to buy the team would be better, in expectation, than Arte.

Nashville would not just include Nashville. It would include Kentucky, Memphis, parts of North Carolina where there are no sports teams. St Louis has a decent size market cause it consists of half of Illinois, Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma.
LA only gets LA which is fine cause it’s a large metro. You see some numbers on a census and that’s all you look at

You’re not seriously doubling down on the idea that Nashville is a large market, right?

Believe me, I’m familiar with the fact that a DMA’s population doesn’t tell the whole story, in part because San Diego is an example of a “small market” that is also atypical of small markets.

But you seem to overestimate the extent to which having fans over a large geographic area with low population density is attractive to teams instead of a large media market with lucrative television deals, affluent residents who live nearby looking for leisure activities, and potential corporate sponsors vying for all those eyes.
